    Another great video! Keeping the trail arm close to your body will automatically put your club in the slot. All done at set up! Shoulder rotation not lift with tilt will put your club path back to the ball. Watch his swing. Once you get it you will know.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction!
      Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies are on my to-do list for online school lesson content. Having said that, the keys to playing a shot when the ball is below your feet are in 1) adjusting your setup to properly orient yourself to the ball (since it will be closer to you, your upper body will be angled more towards the ground than on a standard shot), 2) balancing yourself as you may need to feel your weight more towards the heels of your feet depending on the severity of the slope, 3) taking an extra club or two than you normally would from the given distance, and 4) aligning yourself with the expectation that the ball will fade. Once you are oriented, balanced, and properly aligned, you are ready to execute the swing as taught. Bump your hips forward an inch as you typically would so your weight favors the front side 55-60%, and when you take it back make sure that your weight stays forward and your shoulders do not flatten out as they turn, as they will have a tendency to do so due to their preset steeper orientation. In fact, a good thought for this shot is to keep the chest pointing down as you turn, since mishits from this type of lie are oftentimes a result of the golfer coming out of his or her tilt in the backswing.
      Conversely, a ball above your feet will necessitate having your upper body oriented for a less steep shoulder turn that allows the club to work more around the body, weight perhaps favoring the balls of the feet depending on slope severity, and allowing for a drawing ball flight. You'll likely need to choke down on the club a bit, and for this reason plus the curvature you may also want to club up for this shot, bearing in mind that the ball may tend to roll out more upon landing due to the draw spin. Once again, after making these adjustments you'll want to execute the swing motions as taught - weight forward, tilt/turn/extend, hands in, keeping your swing center intact.
      The short answer with regard to uphill and downhill lies is to 1) Match your shoulders to the angle of the slope, 2) Widen your stance a bit for stability, 3) Understand that an uphill slope is going to add loft whereas a downhill slope will reduce loft and produce more runout, so adjust your club selection accordingly, 4) Make a practice swing next to the ball to determine your swing's low point on that particular slope, and then address the ball so that the low point is just ahead of it, 5) Anticipate the potential for more draw spin on uphill lies and fade spin on downhill lies depending on the severity of the slope, and align accordingly, and 6) Do your best to keep your center intact as you swing since any swaying will shift your low point and cause inconsistent results.
      Thanks so much for your support in sharing your dramatic improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

    Oh man, I've been hitting every shot low, left, off the heel of my Driver. 4 wood goes long and mostly straight. Hybrids are excellent. But I have been absolutely helpless with Driver. I'll try keeping my tilt at set-up and perhaps standing a fraction further away from the ball.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Hi Adam,
      Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) They are not setting their weight forward correctly and as a result are tilting their spine towards the target. We should address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship.
      2) Their hips are not continuing their lateral targetward action through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel, thereby posing an increased risk of premature spinout. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing - and they should move targetward naturally if we allow them to - then their rotation takes over, thereby stalling the necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
      Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) during the downswing and through impact. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
      3) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
      4) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

      In general terms, this is why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my TH-cam content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.

    Tilting towards the target on the back swing is a great tip that I heard a while back. But that is only half of it. The other half is on the downswing - which is tilting AWAY from the target with the trail side. So many of the main movements are taken care of by tilting trail side (right shoulder drops, golf plane shallows, hips clear, etc.). For me, it was my game changing moment, even more that the backswing tilt.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Alex,
      I mentioned that downswing action in this video and it is something that I have taught. However, its effectiveness is based on individual tendencies. It works well for some, not so much for others. It does not serve me well because my downswing path is naturally shallow, so any dropping of the trail shoulder overdoes it for me and pushes the path too far out to the right.
      This is why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. There really is not any conflicting information in what you are referring to. You can absolutely tuck the trail elbow while also creating the structured unit between both arms that can then be driven by the shoulders. The tucked trail arm simply presets it to fold correctly during the backswing, placing it in perfect position to properly unleash its tremendous stored up power into impact.

    I feel that sometimes its hard to have the right tilt, i tilt too much (like bending the left leg too much in the back swing i think) which results in me being a little too close to the ground. This in turn results in me hitting the ground a little too early, like in front of the ball. Especially with the longer irons. Its hard to do it right every time and i dont really know how to fix it

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Todd,
      The move you are likely referring to is a feature of a two-plane type of motion that has the golfer taking the club straight back off the ball and then lifting it, thereby setting the arms on a different plane than the shoulders. This necessitates a shallowing move in order to get the club on a good downswing path. What I teach is a one-plane motion in which the club takes essentially the same path back and through, tracing the natural geometry of the inclined swing circle preestablished at address. It's a very centered, powerful, body-friendly, low-maintenance motion.
      Taking it straight back is a disconnecting move that puts the hands and club in the "Zone of Uncertainty". They don't know what to do from there. Do they crash straight back down in an effort to hit at the ball? Do they drop down and try to find that perfect "slot" each and every swing? Do they get stuck behind us by overcompensating? In other words, we disrupt the natural geometry of the swing preestablished at address when we force the club out and up - or, conversely, snatch/roll it to the inside - thereby taking it off the plane of that inclined circle. Instead, why not just put them in the "slot" to begin with and preset the ideal downswing path before it even happens?!

      150 is decent if it's carry, and depends on irons, lofts vary but are considerably stronger than a few years ago

      Nice job, James! And your 7 iron yardage is perfectly fine. It wasn't so long ago that the standard 7 iron distance on Tour was 155-160 yards.
      As for you inability to take it deep in your backswing, consider that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also supportive of creating that depth while keeping the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process.
      Keep up the great work!

      I'm no pro, but played to 1 handicap at one point, almost 70 still single digits, personally I'd suggest going to a golf shop, with a decent selection of makes, a range and find something that suits you, both in terms of feel and distance. @SagutoGolf  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You need to learn how to free your body up to properly execute a centered turn, and that all begins at setup. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. You may be interested to know that the swing system I teach is a proven body-friendly method. I can vouch for that through my own personal experience as a golfer who previously experienced back pain, and It is further validated by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.

      You could also be coming over the top, that’s what I’m doing. My face is square or closed at impact, my weight is on my lead leg, so the only thing for me is I’m coming over the top. Maybe this is the same with your swing?

      Could be. It’s driving me crazy. Thanks

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The answer lies in ball flight laws, Jeff. Clubface angle relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there we can then do some reverse engineering to identify and neutralize the cause of a sideways shot. So for a straight push the club face is open to the target and square to an in-to-out path at impact. This could be something as simple as the ball position being too far back at address, or there may be other factors involved that are causing the face to open such as a conscious or subconscious handsy manipulation, improper wrist action, a downswing path that is too shallow, and more.
      While there is certainly content on my channel that addresses the various causes, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews
      As to your other question, when properly deployed in sequence our hips play a role in preserving our downswing path and they can certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor on the rotational component, thereby enabling the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while - and this is key - the head and thus the swing center remains in place.) This will occur naturally if we allow it to, but unfortunately the misguided "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. For them, the "feel" of the shoulders leading will help in overcoming this, correctly engaging their hips and fixing their path, thereby leading them to a solid, "crispy" impact condition.

      It is a matter of the proper execution of this critical component of an effective golf swing. Watch the clip of Justin Rose that I included in this video. We then set our hands in their stock position - even with the inside of the lead thigh, and simply place the clubface behind the ball without any manipulations. If the ball position is behind the hands - as it typically is - then this will result in the face naturally opening a slight amount without any twisting or turning of the hands, thereby setting us up for a powerful push-draw ball flight.
      While there is certainly content on my channel that addresses this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lessons and drills, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

      Hi Vic,
      First of all, yes - I am a certified Stack and Tilt Instructor.
      Second of all, I have spoken about the extension component in numerous videos. Do you really expect me to cover all S&T elements in every video and thus risk confusing folks with too much information?
      Third, if we keep our head in place while we tilt the extension happens.
      Finally, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next.
