    As someone who been playing for 3 months i am so glad that i found you. I had watched at least a thousand hours of other instructors and almost all of them contradicted one another... this resulted in changing my swing every other day 😂... well now that ive found your vids, im sticking with it; especially since i broke 70 last week using your methods you teach. Im out driving guys using my 4 iron. Everytime i swing they call BS about the fact that ive just started playing. Im just glad that i found you before i built in real bad mechanics and habits from doing what the other coaches are telling me to do. Kudos

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wait.....WHAT???? Are you saying that you broke 70 - for 18 holes - and have only been playing for three months???
      If that is a truthful statement, then first of all you need to know that this rate of progress is virtually unheard of, and second - that is absolutely outstanding!! 💪💪
      Beyond that, I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction.
      Thanks so much for your message and support, and keep up the fabulous work!

      @SagutoGolf @SagutoGolf ok, so, after double checking with the guys I played with, unfortunately, I did not break 70, I hit a 73. My bad, I thought breaking a certain number meant that I scored in those figures. Forgive me, I'm new to the game and still have quite to learn.
      Anyway, I went again yesterday to see that it wasn't a fluke, and I hit a 71, two better than the last round from last week. Honestly, watching the reactions of guys I get paired up with after telling them I'm new to the game is priceless. You should expect some new followers in the coming weeks from New Zeeland tuning in more. I'm gonna spread the word everywhere I can. Saguto, Saguto, Saguto!!!!

    I'm a 3 hcp because of Tom's teaching. He's the best because of his way of explaining the golf swing. Most golf teachers explain it in away to make you want to give give up golf. They make it so difficult to learn from them. I've been playing golf for a long time all the way back to Ben hogans Five lessons. Inwhich I did get pretty good through trial and error. Just about all golf teachers teach the same golf swing but make it hard to learn. But not Tom. If you want to learn the golf swing and learn it quick. Listen to Tom he's the best. Wish I could have learned from him when I first started. Year was 1981. GOOD JOB TOM, YOUR THE MAN!

    Hi Tom.... Just a note to say thanks for the instuction in this video I am a 5 Handicap who has had some pretty inconsistent and indifferent Swing issues lately ... Couldn't figure it myself out until i saw your video.... So, I went to the range and after using this technique and after about 10 to 15 swings It had literally fixed my swing issues.
    This is a game changer Tom Thanks .. I couldn't believe the transformation, I had lost 10 to 15 yards on most of my irons, this lesson was an instant fix.
    By concentrating on my shoulder rotation on the backswing and through the downswing and finishing around, I regained that distance and the noise when I flushed those Iron shots was something I have missed... I took the technique to the first Tee and not only did I regain the distance I had lost I was hitting it dead straight and kocking down pins, this was truly amazing. The results were instant, long story short..... I shot -1 (70) The swing also translated into my Driver swing with the same results... You are a very smart young Man keep up the great Instruction, This was "Finger lickin Good"
    This technique gave me fewer moving parts and made my swing more compact and much more powerful..... Thanks, Stuart

      I too have found that when my ball striking gets a bit "off" it oftentimes comes down to shoulder rotation - or more specifically, a lack thereof.

    I have been casually golfing for about 5 years now. I am self taught and have watched hundreds of TH-cam videos trying to get more consistent.
    When I've swung well I've noticed my shoulders tend to move more freely, but I always locked them up thinking back.
    My 5 iron usually goes about 160 yards...I went out after watching this video and hit it 200 yards dead straight....the sound was so different on impact than anything I'd ever heard.
    I cannot wait to go out with my golfing bud this weekend.

    Got a little story to tell you Tom. I’m sure you get tons. I started watching some of your videos last summer and it really helped me with swing basics. I was sliding a lot and very inconsistent, hitting fat shots and hitting behind the ball. I’ve never been a good golfer. I actually quit playing for probably 15 -20 years Started playing again in2017 but was injured in a truck accident in2018. Broken neck nose back, well I’m still here and age and injuries where I lost a lot of distance I’ve accepted. Anyway I had gotten my game pretty consistently in the mid 80’s in warm weather where I could get out and play. Always tougher in winter but I was just spraying the ball around and then I thought 🤔 What do I need to do ? Exactly ! Get back to watching your videos and the one where you point your shoulder at the ball and keep your body and head on the ball. Amazingly just today I went from shooting 93-94 to 84 and I missed a lot of putts. I have shot in the 70’s 3 times. The main thing though was my ball striking was SO much better. CRISPY 😎 Thanks again Tom for keeping it real and keeping it simple for us weekend warriors, you’re awesome !

      That's awesome, Bob!! Thanks so much for sharing your story, and congrats on an excellent round yesterday!! I'm very glad to know that my channel's instruction is resonating well with you, and the lesson video you referenced is a good one for putting it all together in one simple thought.
      By the way, with regard to your injuries, you may be interesting to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      Have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of the online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Here's a link if you would like to know more about the school - saguto.golf - and here's a link to some unsolicited testimonials if you'd like to see some other stories: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews
      You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought and take your learning - and your game - to the next level.
      Thanks for your comment and keep it crispy out there!!

    I’m on vacation on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. I planned to go to the driving range today, and decided to watch this video beforehand. It was revelatory! I hit every club so much better following this simple technique-keep the shoulders turning through the shot. It was weird. At first it felt like I was going to pull the ball 20 yards, but it kept going straight! I did mishit maybe 10 (out of 90) balls using this method, but pretty sure it was because I looked up before making contact. It was very easy to correct this. I’m a believer, Tom. Can’t wait to get on a golf course (tomorrow) to try it out.

    What a great tip Tom! When my shoulders get too passive, I'm the "poster boy", for the stopping at the ball miss that you demonstrated. Key for me, is finding out that it's possible to hit great shots with a left side lower body triggered downswing, if it's blended with a free move of both shoulders, on a track well past impact.

    You are a blessing ❤️ I am a professional Juggler and golf led me along side juggling to get my life on track. My thought that changes everything is to play from the ankles. Put a feeling of grabbing the earth like a juggling ball but hold it with two feet. Fall forward to the ball and then when you get to the ball bring your butt back this will stop you from bending and put you in balance. Stay on your feet and feel your weight shift as you turn your shoulders around without stopping as Sugutogolf says. Combine these 2 simple steps and you can’t possibly be off balance because you are on your feet. The weight moves to the back foot and then you will feel the middle where you hit the ball and then keep the weight shifting and your shoulders turning smoothly through with no resistance. If you are in balance then there is no resistance. If you are off balance in any aspect of your life then you will be the resistance that not only hurts your golf game but also your family, loved ones and your universe. You might not weigh much but just think how much strain you are putting on God to juggle the 3 billion people let alone every living thing. It does matter so don’t cause disturbances or you will regret it later ❤

    Absolute fire 🔥 I literally watched a handful of your videos last night and then went and played a round at my local course in Pensacola hit the range before and first attempt at this I scorched a 8 iron 160+. My 8 iron was going 130 if I was lucky depending on if my swing would even allow it to get up and go. Hands down some of the best instructions I’ve ever seen. I’m into day 2 of the 3 video swing course. I’ll need practice as I had some mishits all day only because it is so new to me. But this will project my game into the 80’s I’m sure. I’m a 94 average now.

      My pleasure, Joey! The way I see it, we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work and thereby build a powerful, body-friendly, repeatable, low-maintenance motion, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball!

    Tom, great tip as always, since incorporating your golf "style" I have gone from mid 90's to mid 80's and it is based around this concept, and I have never commented on any golf swing tip but this is the real thing for Crispy contact. One thing that helped me tremendously is that I bring my hands "back" behind my hips and then do that baseball swing tip you provided but keeping my hands under my shoulders. It would be great to get your take on the hands "feeling" along with the shoulder turn. Thank you for your continued dedication to helping.

      My personal feel is to establish my connections in the setup and then relinquish control to the big muscles. It greatly simplifies things as there is no micromanaging taking place. The arms and hands will then "go along for the ride" and respond properly on autopilot without conscious manipulation. I can then just trust it and let it go with confidence. I appreciate that, Victor!!
      I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large in this video and several others for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone.
      Now, having said that, I recently purchased a new set of PXG's, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently.
      The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf.
      Thanks for your message!

      The shoulders obviously play an integral role with regard to path and power, but they must be deployed in the proper sequence in order to deliver on both fronts. If your shoulders are overactive or prematurely getting ahead of you in the transition/downswing, then I suggest focusing on your lower body action as described in these lesson videos:

      If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper wrist action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.

    Awesome distances with your seven iron and driver Tom! I have found that in making little half swings, I feel more freedom in my shoulders. Thanks John! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
      As you work on those fuller swings, be sure to take video to ensure that you are maintaining your relationship with the ball to the completion of your backswing, as we can sometimes go too far with it. The key here is get to - but not go beyond - your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists are properly set (preferably with a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist). This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
      1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
      2) the wrists will break down
      3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
      4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
      5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight.
      6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact
      7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury
      We don't need to try to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting your body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If you execute this swing properly you will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that will enable you to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum".
      Have fun out there!

      Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness!

    Tom - With your driver swing is there any tilt like conventional teaching and is your weight still forward on your lead leg? And to what %. I have followed Moe Norman, and Paul Wilson of late. I hope your method can help this old struggling golfer. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks Your 🇨🇦 Friend

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Leon,
      The tilt and weight forward elements are absolutely components of the driver swing. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: th-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/w-d-xo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact.
      So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )
      For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice have caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.
      Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. LOL!! No worries, Rick - I reserve the "top secret" secrets for the online school.....😆
      Understanding why the ball behaves a particular way is a critical step in the process of learning and taking ownership of your swing, so keep up the great work!!

      PS: By the way, have you joined the SagutoGolf Community Forum (which is included in your online school membership) yet and begun engaging with other golfers in the school? If you've not already done so it only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access in this fun and tremendously supportive community and participate in the ongoing great dialogue on a variety of swing- and game-related topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post accomplishments and specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond and banter of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I monitor the forum and participate as well. I really think you will enjoy it!!

    Nice. I find that whenever I didn’t complete my swing it was because my head moved forward causing my shoulders to get out of position. There is no way you can complete the golf swing then. Head behind the ball and swinging past a stationary head always allows me to complete the swing. ….love the forest beyond your garden!

    In terms of cause and effect what slows the shoulder turn is the slowing of the hip turn because the back foot stays grounded, usually due to a lack of lateral hip shift at start of the downswing. This can be seen in the comparison @ 5:00 When the back foot stays down hips and shoulders slow down because hips can’t turn past 45° open creating a feeling like “hitting a wall” with the lead hip. When the back foot is raised in response to feeling resistance to turning the hips as they reach 45° open the hips and shoulder slow just enough to trigger the lead arm mass to fire down and the club head mass to whip down around the hands, then allow the hips and shoulders to turn again to catch up with the accelerating hands, creating the feeling of hitting but then breaking through the invisible wall.
    So shoulders stopping is a just a symptom of problem due to lack of lateral hip shift and weight transfer in downswing resulting in having too much support in the back foot that it stays down and restricts the hip turn. This can be seen @ 5:00 in the video if you watch and compare the action of the back foot in the restricted swing (grounded restricting hips) and free swing (lifted and allowing hips to keep turning).

      @SagutoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - the two are absolutely interconnected, and I do have plenty of content on the importance of the lateral hip action in the downswing.
      Thanks for your detailed comments in this regard!

    Me and my buddies are planning a golf trip to Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Everyone from West Virginia goes to Myrtle Beach LOL what courses do you recommend? I haven’t played there for a while. Thanks.

      @SagutoGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a tough question, Joseph, since there are so many great courses here at the Golfing Capital of the World..
      Founders Group International may be a good starting point since they own and operate 21 very nice courses throughout the entire Grand Strand Region: foundersgroupinternational.com/myrtle-beach-golf-courses/
      Enjoy your trip!!

    Great lesson to take to the range. To get your shoulders around, is it a push/pull feeling? Or do you focus on the lead or trail side? thanks in advance.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed it, Kevin!
      When entrusting the motion to the big muscles as demonstrated here, I really don't experience any type of push or pull feeling. I simply get in a good setup that facilitates a full turn, establish my connections - part of which was addressed in last week's lesson: th-cam.com/video/ukwnUkpWxHM/w-d-xo.html - give control to the shoulders, and trust it!
      I hope this lesson performs well for you!

      @SagutoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sincerely appreciate that, Justin!
      I’m using JumboMax grips. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. They’re not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy."
      Cheers!
