  • Being stylish is a product of experimental, creativity, raw human spirit BUT when all of that is lacking, it can also be a bit of a science. Sometimes fashion can feel so overwhelming, but if you tackle each of these 18 elements bit by bit you will find your way to good style.

    Love the final tip about practicality. I'm a gardener and people sometimes comment about how stylish I look gardening... it's because when I started doing it professionally I decided to invest in cute, sturdy clothes that I liked wearing rather than just tossing on old, worn-out, or ill-fitting clothes that I didn't mind getting dirty. Intentionality is so important

    • @shachardl5360
      @shachardl5360 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Finding cute but sturdy is so hard! I'm working in a kindergarten and after trying wearing cute things and regret it (like having 2 pairs of cute linen trousers ripped, nice tops stained by markers or tomato sauce or nice shoes that got ruined by removing them a few times a day or sitting in weird positions that hurt their structure) I unfortunately had to dismiss this idea and going mainly with t shirts and sturdy (and hot in the summer) jeans. There are a lot of more important reasons why I'm moving for another job soon, but being able to wear my style is a reason, too.

      A few years ago I started changing my approach from having a few very nice pieces I wore rarely to spending more on my most worn practical items, including the clothes I wear at home. It makes such a difference to how I feel, wearing something that makes me feel cute and good even if I am just doing chores.

      @@shachardl5360I love hiking pants and fatigue pants for that. I work as an environmental tech and I want to look great at the office. But I could get last minute fieldwork and wear those sorts bottoms so I just need to throw on my steel toes and head to my site

      Honestly Do you have any brand recommendations? I work outside a lot for my job and I definitely just throw on some ill fitting things. I dont know how to be cute, professional, and able to get sweaty outside

    I always heard that glossy, healthy hair, clean manicured nails , large flattering sunglasses, and simple earrings can pull any outfit together - but perhaps you would say these would all bring a perfect outfit to the next level! :)

      hair plays huge role. Visually it takes a lot of space so it needs to be in a good shape. For myself I know that if its bit dirty, the sleek look still doesn't work just because I know I need to wash my hair and feel very uncomfortable having it dirty in public

    If you want quality clothes at a cheap price, go thrifting. The fact that clothes last long enough to be second-hand usually means that they are good quality.

    • @TheKarebear666
      @TheKarebear666 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you're straight sized, yes. For us mid-sized and plus sized gals, thrifting isn't practical 😭

  • @ML-cc7gj
    @ML-cc7gj ปีที่แล้ว +29

    I’d say confidence is the biggest part of it. If you wear something with confidence and walk like a queen, you can pull off pretty much whatever. That’s my test especially when thrifting, can I walk around in it and not feel bad. A lot of times my MIL (my thrifting partner in crime) says that at first she thought that this thing or that was weird when I bought it but when I wear it next, it looks actually good. Well, I am someone who once wore a Lord of the Rings inspired Elvish dress to my microbiology exam in uni, so yeah…

    You’re the best fashion influencer on this platform (and trust me I’ve watched a lot of videos). You are entertaining and stylish, you come across as sweet and likable, and for someone that has never studied fashion, you have a good eye for it. While I have nothing against people that always wear neutral colors, it can be boring and also, mixing colors requires more work and precision. It’s really inspiring for someone like me (a SSu that can’t pull off black and white very well).

    Love what your wearing in the videos shown. You don't see pastel or floral, or fun stripes depicted much. Black, white and other solid colors can be so boring. You have a wonderful and specific sense of style. You don't dress like a influencer clone who all wear the exact same style we have seen repeated and over. This one video has give me so many ideas. Thanks.

    wow i don't think i ever realized that people associated "timeless" style with 1950s trends! funny to think how the span of time from then until now is only a very small part of fashion history... maybe the same thing happened with neoclassical and renaissance clothing associating timelessness with antiquity?

  • @StormSought

    Quality is of course harder when you can't spend a lot, but it isn't always impossible. Some fast fashion brands put out cotton or linen blends at decent prices if you wait for a sale, and it's often possible to thrift wool and wool blends. I end up spending similar money, but stuff is lasting longer. I've had the best luck with good fabrics going on sale at uniqlo and target, and online thrift is becoming a little more accessible, less all designer all the time. I also just decided I was okay with having less clothes though, which obviously made it more affordable. And I don't mind washing nicer things by hand once I 'invest', which is easier with a smaller wardrobe.

    Quality doesn’t need to be expensive. It is about being selective and paying attention to how a garment is made. Also in combination with the other tips about being intentional when buying something, focusing on quality and how much use one will get from the item, versus buying regularly things that will not last (either because they no longer look good or we do not actually love them) is the way to go. By buying less but buying smarter one doesn’t need to spend more.

    I don't personally see timelessness as a put of this time. But more so, something that when mixed with this time, won't seam out of place. Like a dress I could wear with a bright sweatshirt and tennis shoes, and look like I belong in the 90's, or wear a monochrome look with a knit over it with some sandals and layered jewelry, and totally fit in 2020's.

    • @miippi
      @miippi 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have one of these dresses. I can wear it with SO MANY things and it won't look out of place. Its classy when I want to and casual when I feel like it. It looks great now, it looked great when my mom wore it, and it will look amazing when my niece will wear it (given that it lasts that long, I wear it all the time). For me this is timeless. I wouldn't want all of my clothes to be like that, that would be boring. But somethings that I can update with accessories and layers.

    A good way of maintaining quality without going bankrupt is taking good care of your clothing. Simply following the washing instructions (hand washing, laying flat to dry, etc) for the clothing you really care about preserving makes a difference. I have pieces of clothing I bought years ago that probably aren't considered the best quality fabrics but have lasted because of this. Also I rinse stains that have the potential of lasting as soon as possible, even if it means I'm going to be walking around with a big wet circle on my clothes because it sucks when your favorite shirt is always just a little yellow in a certain spot because you let curry sit.

    You touch on it briefly but tailoring goes so so far for style. Celebrities look good even in very casual clothes because their clothes are tailored to fit them exactly. When making a wardrobe budget you should take tailoring into account if you don't know how to do it yourself.
