I feel like Lorelai is one of the best dressed characters on tv - her style is so perfect for her and her character. So easy to pinpoint, so good on Lauren Graham. Her style combination seems incredibly rare and makes it easy to replicate and everyone will immediately think “that reminds me of Lorelai” ☀️
Lauren Graham's bright winter, high contrast looks carried a good chunk of the show aesthetically. She looked absolutely stunning, and the outfits really worked with her hair and eyes. She wore a lot of lighter blues, anthracite, greys and deep reds. So interesting how much better people look in "their" colors. I still haven't figured out what my colors are, colors that really enhance my hair, eye color, features.
For sure!! Another way to think of it is what colors you feel more confident in. If you don’t really like the color on you, then I’d bet it’s not your color! I’ve never thought about colors enhancing your hair thought!!
Have you looked up the colors according to your "season"? you can find a lot of info on how to find it out online, with pictures of hair, eyes, skin tone etc. that match with a certain color set. I'm a spring:)
I feel like Lorelai's wardrobe just matches perfectly her complex personality. Rory has a great style, but for me, it always stood out as mainly academia and preppy, and as she gets older she matures this style a lot and also learns how to dress in fancier situations. Lorelai, on the other hand, is a teenager at heart who sacrificed herself to raise a baby and tried her best to become a self-sufficient woman. So she has this duality that is shown so much through her clothes, she has a really adult side as well as a really teen side. She developed a really professional style that feels natural to her as a character because she's been working since she was 17 basically and she worked her way to the top so she is very confident in her abilities just as she is confident in her business style. But at the same time, she didn't get to enjoy her youth so she got attached to being young and keeping her essence, so she has a very teen style outside of work, with a lot of colors, hats, flowy blouses, band tees, jackets, etc.
You hit the nail on the head: technically Rory borrows some of Lorelai's clothing but always a different vibe...Rory is small town, Lorelai was a transplant who works hard to fit in, except when she doesn't.
Thank you everyone for the feedback here! I'm filming in a new space as I am renovating my new house so the equipment I usually use sounds completely different in an empty room with no carpets! But noted in terms of music I have passed this all along to my editor for the next one - but I'm afraid there's nothing I can do with this one now its up x
Please do Emily too! I have been rewatching and I love how her style is done, and I am sure she must be an Autumn too - she looks beautiful in a dark chocolate colour and gold jewellery. Total contrast to Lorelai and Rory!
Another good candidate for a style root breakdown is the main character in Marvelous Mrs Maisel. Those outfits are bomb! And are also very carefully chosen to reflect the inner life of the heroine.
@@mynameisreallycool1 I checked and Rachel Brosnahan is 1,61 cm, so she could well be a SG (like myself, I may add, which is perhaps why I love the outfits in that series so much).
I alwsys thought the reason Lorelai and Rory dressed the way they did was because Lorelai was supposed to have a stunted childhood- as in she couldn't grow up emotionally- and Rory was supposed to be the more mature one (even though she's the child). So reversed roles? Maybe I took that wrong? But also- mini skirts were so popular during that time. Im old, and I remember it so well lol.

I would love for you to do a style analysis on Charlie's Angels (2000). Back then they did a bts talking about the wardrobe choices and how they characterized all 3 angels. They wanted to give each of them a distinct style that would reflect their personality and still make all 3 look like "cool girls", which is something I think they absolutely accomplished.

Definitely think Lorelai is Gamine essence! Probably with a Classic undercurrent. She looks so natural in brightly coloured clothes and fun, busy prints. Her facial features have high contrast like a Yang essence would, plus she has very pointy lips, a more compact face with a high forehead, upturned nose, rounder cheeks, dark pointy eyebrows, showing Gamine. Classic as her second because she does look good in simplistic, minimalist, sophisticated designs too like when she works at the inn and wears blazers (gamine would often suit this too). Her features work symmetrically and have too much Yang for me to consider any of the yin essences. She gives off a cheeky, playful vibe that has some maturity and classyness to it.
So fun! Could you go through some actresses and compare when they are wearing what suits them vs not (like when you referenced a movie where they did not dress Cameron Diaz well). I think it would be super helpful to focus on actresses like Meryl Streep and point out how she created her look, how people with a similar body type or essence can dress similarly, etc. Thanks!

It’s a bit odd but my favorite Rory look ever is the one where she wore a blue floral bathing suit as top matched with a khaki skirt. She literally picked her only clean clothes and still made it work.
She was kinda embarrassed about the band tee tho lol. She told max she only wore it because she spilled coffee on herself and it happened to be in her car.

I really enjoyed it! I’ve never watched the series, so I saw it through a different perspective. Lorelai has the confidence to pull nearly anything off. I was surprised that her outfits seemed awkward compared to her build. Though, I was blown away by the brief clip of her in the fitted skirt and heels. I think I also don’t enjoy certain street style as much as some people. It’s probably because I feel lost or clunky in most of it. Please don’t hate me, Gilmore fans! I’m willing to watch it and reconsider 😅
Ellie, thank you so much for your work. It makes me so happy to get a notification of your channel since itso thorough and fun. I am wondering if you could make suggestions for more youthful and modern SD/Soft Dramatic recommendations? I am one and feel so left out of the fashion conversation despite being healthy weight because of my frame not being narrow while being average height (5.3.75") but have a large chest. I find what looks best on me reads so matronly and I have been told as such. I'm 21. When I say it sucks it sucks and it's made me have type resistance since while I can accesorize like can SD and not get the weird comments, I find I cannot play as much with actual clothing. Please. And thank you.
The "stone, flower, earth" aspect was kind of unnecessary, could've just said "preppy and down to earth", but overall decent video. Rory looked lovely in her Summer color palette. Lorelei's style really carried the show far as wardrobe though. She was a stunner when they dressed her in her bright Winter palette and she pulled off both a sexy yet professional look!
I love love love the outfits of season 1. The early 2000s style of the later seasons however isn't really my thing, but that's just my personal taste :)
I adore Gilmore girls! This style analysis was so fun! If you're able to work on the audio quality some that would also be welcomed. Audacity is a great free program with lots of youtube tutorials! (I havent watched your long form content enough to remember if this is the usual quality of audio - even if it isn't usual learning audacity could save videos where you are less pleased with the audio quality )
Im not seeing the differences between earth and stone in Rory's style- you describe both as casual and relaxed. The sweater from Rory's first scene seems like earth to me. Can you give more specific examples of the clothing pieces that represent each? I'm loving the gilmore girls videos btw!
@irina3471 hmmm I see what you're saying, although I still feel like I need specific clothing examples. At least with Rory's clothing I'm not seeing the "cool" or stone piece, it just seems like she wears comfortable and relaxed styles
The stone is the hoodies, the converse, the oversized shapes whereas the earth influence is the rough textures, the natural colour palette, and the strange layering! Often earth and stone are present in the same outfits so yes the sweater is earth because of the wool texture but the oversized, chill nature of it is stone - I hope that clears up the difference there and how they're both at play! x
Please make a video on Flower style root and it's combos! I used to think I was stone because i assumed I was too masculinity/average looking to be a cutesy flower, but now I've changed my mind
Video's good, but please put up a spoiler alert for those of us that haven't watched all of it. I'm at the part where she's applying to collages... So... Yeah... Now I guess I know how that goes.
Have been thinking about this and didn't know where to ask, so to whomever reads: do you think that our zyla colors could help determine our color season? For instance, my personal colors seem to all be found in the soft autumn palette. I was more looking into deep autumn but hadn't been able to pinpoint one specific season as I don't have drapes. So, can we use our zyla colors to that end? Thank you to everyone who answers.
I haven't noticed that direct comparison in my darker colors, like my dramatic color, but I think they can at least help guide you. I'm a Soft Summer and all of my shades have the wispy, watercolor feel to them. My romantic color is a seashell pink which can be found in the Summer palettes in general. The same with my tranquil color which is a white mint. I found Ellie's color season playlist immensely helpful. I watched them all several times (because I'm obsessive) but I was able to figure out my season without purchasing drapes so I recommend starting there!
@@joscreen3252 then you could be neutral toned! Do both gold and silver work on you? If so, I would pay more attention to your saturation and skin undertones rather than your veins. I'm neutral and found that including them in my analysis was just more confusing.
@@merrygray2791 I find that both gold and silver look good as long as they're not too stark, like bright yellow, but I prefer rose gold on me. I'm definitely not clear or bright, although I love black, objectively it overwhelms me, so not dark winter. That's why I was leaning dark autumn, but since my zyla colors are all reflected in soft autumn I wondered if it could be a good way to type myself. My coloring is mostly muted, not too warm not too cool, medium contrast aside from my darker hair.

Would you do something like this for Bella from Twilight? Or Alice..
I like this style of video a lot!
That's great feedback thank you!
You should do Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada!
Often earth and stone are present in the same outfits so yes the sweater is earth because of the wool texture but the oversized, chill nature of it is stone - I hope that clears up the difference there and how they're both at play! x
do you have any helpful resources for styling men?
Please make a video on Flower style root and it's combos! I used to think I was stone because i assumed I was too masculinity/average looking to be a cutesy flower, but now I've changed my mind
You really ought to do a deep dive into the differences between mushroom and mountain cuz they're really difficult to differentiate.
I think Lauren Graham has some Gamine essence. She looks great in her separates and cool tshirts and color combos.
This is such an interesting and thorough analysis. Loved it so much! First vid I’ve seen of yours and you have such a likable personality. subbed:)
Thank you so much! That’s so lovely to read, I really appreciate that! ☺️☺️☺️
Emily! Do Emily please she’s my favorite character! ❤
I would love to do an analysis of Emily!!
What color are the veins in your skin, like if you turn over your wrist. Are they blue, lavender, or more green ect?
@@tammystiletto all of them 😅
@@joscreen3252 then you could be neutral toned!
This is such a cool behavioral analysis using clothing?!
