    This will be my second year growing dahlias in grow bags. One thing I did was purchase 7 gallon all black grow bags (amazon). The black gets hidden so easily among the other flowers that you barely see them. Love that I can move them (especially if one is growing much larger than I expected!) … I can just move the bag behind a shorter grower. Can’t wait for my garden this year!!

    I’m sorry but I didn’t see a video of what zone you are in. I’m in 7b and I take my dahlia roots up every year. This past year I experimented with putting part of the roots in a bag with sawdust and the other guy cut off at the dirt and sit by the window because it had hundreds of growth spurts on it under the dirt when I dug it up for the winter. It is still thriving and ready to be in the dirt in the spring but the one in the bag I don’t think has no help. Please tell me what you do with your dahlias in the winter. Thank you so very much for your channel.

    So pretty, I would like to know instead of digging the dahlia for winter if I cover my dahlia with plastic and leave it outside do u think it will grow back in summer?

      Mine has been coming back. It is in a raised bed garden. I've got to tell you, I know very little about what I am doing. Our backyard does get a lot of sun and that helps and now I'm learning things by watching these videos!

    What size smartpots do you use? How do you water and how often?

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dawn! The smartpots from this video are the 7-gallon size (with handles). We water them like a normal container by checking the soil with our fingers or sometimes, when we were in a hurry, we just lifted the handles to check how heavy the bags felt. Our watering frequency varied from every day to every couple of days depending on the needs of each dahlia and the weather. Thanks for watching and great questions!

      If I plant in a 10gallon pot do you think the plants would be taller?

    How long do you think I can grow dahlia in a pot

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting question; it depends on many different things, but mostly how soon your each dahlia bulb in each pot will grow where it outgrows the pots soil space to actually grow healthily. It can be a little subjective, but, an easy way to figure this out is if your bulb is at or over half in size compared to the pot soil size, then it should be planted in a larger pot ("potted up"). This way, roots have lots of room to grow into and help sustain the bulb mass and anchor each plant in that pot so it doesn't fall over too easy. You could also divide larger dahlia bulbs so you can still use the one pot, but you will then need one or more pots to plant each new bulb. Hope that helps and thank you for asking your question! 😀😊

    My grow bag dahlias i think were attacked by thrips? The buds are brown and mushy. And I'm not sure if I should've bought nicer tubers or like I guess I need to decontaminate the potting soil. It's annoying! Bc I have so many buds

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Holly Holly! 👋 Oh man!! We are so sorry to hear that! Thrips shouldn't turn the buds mushy though. If you would like our help, email us with a couple of photos of your dahlias at: Seanandallison@spokengarden.com

      Thrips definitely make dahlias mushy 😔 brown and nasty! Same with gladiolus 😭
