EVERYTIME I HEAR THIS SONG ..... THAT CALIFORNIA SONG ..... MAKES ME WANNA JUMP ON A PLANE and HEAD TO CALI!!!!!! Love this song. But, MR. HUGH MASAKALA ..... YOURs is NUMBER ONE!!!!!! Grazing In The Grass❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
So excited seeing this great group on video. The Friends of Distinction happened to be my all time favorite group growing up I knew all their songs, licks and harmonies. Seeing them here makes me know they were tremendous in live performances in the early years.
We are blessed to have this video to watch. Although, Floyd Butler and Jessica Cleaves have passed away, we always remember them with wonderful video of their performance.
This is an amazing video! I always loved the tune both with vocals or as an instrumental but never learned the name of the artists or song title off the radio. How cool to have this slice of cool history to enjoy now. So happy to have found it!
Awesome video but two different females are with the fellas as Jessica Cleves is not in this lineup and the other woman who sang lead on Love or Let Me Be Lonely whose name escapes me. Still a great performance.
I wished I was old enough to see them perform this song and their other songs. I was a kid when this song came out. The family cookouts were fun. I was having fun with my cousins when we were kids. I miss you, mom .
Music is everything to me. Words near express the joy this tune has given me throughout my teen years summer camp and beyond. How many times I sang it along the shoreline aloud with friends. Friends of Distinction is God blessed. How wonderful to leave behind such fabulous music quality of which will live forever never to pass this way again.
A fine example of young excellent talent back in the day. It takes top notch talent to pull off vocals like that. Impeccable timing gift. All of them. God Bless those gone on and those still with us.
I recall seeing them in concert at, what was then known as, the Flint IMA Auditorium, in Flint, Michigan. They were truly special, and I continue to listen to their music today!
This song, to me, is one of the very BEST all time summer songs! How they could sing, 'she can dig it dig it, he can dig it so frickin' fast, always intrigued me, even today!!
I was class of '78, and was fortunate to have had older cousins during that era. One was the class of '71 I think, another was the class of '74, and two more in the class of '75. I used to always look at their yearbooks just to appreciate the "older" girls. This pre-teen boy was really digging the long hair and the afro's of those teenaged ladies captured in b&w. You guys just looked so cool, and so outta sight!🙂
This is the best version I ever heard this group perform. I only found out there were words a few years ago. I play the Hugh Masekela instrumental version frequently.
What an absolute classic! It’s up there with Groovin by the Young Rascals! They sure could sing. I bought the album as soon as I heard Grazing back in 1969. Think I wore it out within 6 months. Such great memories. Loved the girls. Great singers, all of them!
This was a relaxing and slow trumpet instrumental by the South African trumpet player Hugh Masekela and the with added words it was completely transformed almost beyond recognition by this vocal arrangement.
Wow!! Thank god we have historic videos like this to remind us how good these guys and gals were, great vocals which are sadly missing in today's crap so called music
I was watching a comerical on and they were playing this instrumental I kept saying I remember this I couldn't remember the words but it came back to me as a kid hearing this I can dig it dig it can you feel it baby and I just googled it and it's the song
I'm a 74 year old white Mofo and I'll tell you something, if someone offered me $1million to promise I will never listen to soul music ever again I would tell them to go to hell
So nice seeing clips of this magnificent group, wish there were full coverage of concerts, I really would love to see them perform my favorite, Just A Little Lovin' 💓, Crazy Mary 💓 and Lady Mae💓. Is there a vault of Friends Of Distinction treasures somewhere, if so please direct me to them, I love them 🥰

This was a great group. I loved them when I ws a kid and I still love them now. I hope they're all still alive and well.
2 of them gone. Floyd Butler in 1990 & Jessica Cleaves in 2014
@@sodestined1198 Yes I read up on that after I had commented. They left us some good music for sure. RIP

They sound great and they look so good in their outfits!!
Those are not outfits, those are the most cultural and soulful clothing designs of all time. Lol
It's 2021 and I was listening to this song on repeat today in my car
I wished I was old enough to see them perform this song and their other songs.
I was a kid when this song came out.
The family cookouts were fun. I was having fun with my cousins when we were kids.
I miss you, mom .
Total classic! This video's a gas, can you dig it, baby?
"I can dig it dig it dig it..."
He singing this song downnnn with a bow tie and a vest on! Effortlessly!
This group was so versatile! Mixing it up in every song they made. Sadly in the shadows of the 5th dimensions. Extremely underated!!!

All the way live baby! can you dig it !?!
A fine example of young excellent talent back in the day. It takes top notch talent to pull off vocals like that. Impeccable timing gift. All of them. God Bless those gone on and those still with us.
Very very cool. So tight!
One of those live performances that is extra special because for example, of the chord they end on
This was the first 45 I bought- I was 12 years old-the years go by soo fast-love this💖
So rare to find footage of them live! One of my top 5 favorite groups of all time
I can dig it! Yeah!!!!! This is true music artistry.
HOJE E 28/05/2024 vendo essa maravilha
This is Priceless. Fine Live Performance. I recall this Program seems hosted by James Earle Jones.
I recall seeing them in concert at, what was then known as, the Flint IMA Auditorium, in Flint, Michigan. They were truly special, and I continue to listen to their music today!
I love the girls green outfit. Love it.
They sound so good. Great job by all involved, the engineers, the singers and the musicians.
Ok, great job! This is the first live (non-lip-synced) performance I've seen them do, and they nailed it!
The original lineup performed this live to the studio track on The Ed Sullivan Show.
oh i remember when this came out! such a great peaceful hit back in the 70's!
All these decades later and I STILL DIG IT 😎 👌 🤪 😏 😉
I'm a white 59 year old male who loves classic rock. But I also love the R&B and soul music from the early 70's. This is such a great song!
“I’m gonna get you sucka”.. Isaac Hayes sings this in the car 😂
One of my favs
This is why I love hearing songs that I like live. You can hear everyone crystal clear. There's nothing like it. Fantastic job, y'all.
Awesome, you can't beat sisters getting a groove going. No put down to others.
so underappreciated and underrated rih Jessica cleaves
Thats Charlene Gibson Jessica had left by this time
Love love love these guys! Amazing voices, harmony and versatility! They will always remain timeless!!!
This is the vid Ive been looking for. Not dubbed and lip synced. Their great voices live and tight.
What great memories.
This song, to me, is one of the very BEST all time summer songs! How they could sing, 'she can dig it dig it, he can dig it so frickin' fast, always intrigued me, even today!!
Brings back memories of the 70s. The style of bell bottom pants. Just graduated from high school in 1973.
Class of 1974- yes
Year i was born.
I was class of '78, and was fortunate to have had older cousins during that era. One was the class of '71 I think, another was the class of '74, and two more in the class of '75. I was ‘72. Someone on my Junior Year Annual Staff sneaked Jimi Hendrix in the “H” Student Photos.
Sooo much talent. Fantastic clip
Floyd and Larry were the co-founders of the Friends of Distinction.
RIP, Floyd and Larry
This is the best version I ever heard this group perform.
I only found out there were words a few years ago.
I play the Hugh Masekela instrumental version frequently.
The language of the song is beautiful. Pure poetry.
This makes me smile 😃 🩷💙🎶🎤🎼🎵🎙
Terrific performance .
So, from what I can ascertain, we are to dig it.
Love it---classic---When Black folks could sing & harmonize
I just love the little dance they did in the beginning
I bought this single in 1969 and listened to it over and over again. I still love it and I think it's The Friends of Distinction´s best hit
Gawd I love this music!!!!!!

Beautiful brown skin human beings, amazing talents.

The instrumental by Hugh Masekela preceded The Friends Of Distinction by about four years. I'm grateful for 'em both!
I love this stuff.
Yeah, man I can dig it!!!
I remember Jessica being part of funkadelic
Excellent
So good! A video treasure.
When I start my new weed company , I'm going to make this my commercial jingle.

I think I know that park.
Check out the jazz instrumental version by Hugh Masakilah itz 🔥
Woo woo
I recognize Floyd and brother Harry, but not the two females. I think they replaced Barbara and Jessica (who were knock outs on stage every time).
