The 60s dancing is so joyful and beautiful . My older brother had the LP this was off i used to love it as a kid and still do, what a group they were, fabulous!
I was in like the 4th Grade when this fine group came to be. IMO- I give these people as much weight as The Beatles or Jimi Hendrix. And of course Marilyn McKoo was as gorgeous as they will ever come.
Defo performing live and doing a great job. Love the dad dancing from the boys...typical blokes, watching the girls to make sure they're getting it right. 😁
I remember this song as a 7 year old kid living in Brooklyn, NY. Always liked it! Of course, as I got older and actually heard the lyrics, I wondered what "surrey down" and "stoned soul picnic" meant. In fact, a lot of these words made no sense. "Red, yellow, honey. sassafras and moonshine..." Then I came to learn that "surrey down" was made up term! Lol! Nonetheless, great childhood memories!
The Best! And Florence LaRue ( shorter lady/petite ) 💝 Steps Out of her Champagne Soul for a second, "Rips" it on The "Street" Soul and Screams: "OW"!!! 👄 ~ Brings UP The Song "OW"!!! ~ 👄 💘🥳💕 Their Vocals, Style, Everything ~ It Doesn't Get Any Better ~ So Brilliantly Unique ~ Cool Cut Class~! P.S. But, don't "go" by me ~ I Love 'Em ~ The Kicker: Above & Beyond
One of their greats, penned by Laura Nyro. I had such a crush on Marilyn McCoo when I was a kid. She is so beautiful and so is Florence. Almost 45 years have passed since then. Billy Davis is a very lucky man, both he and Marilyn have been married for a little over 50 years.
I don't blame you for having a crush on Marilyn. I had a thing for her back then and today, watching this group by the magic of TH-cam I the fire comes back. A class act.
This is one of the most "energetic" live performances I have ever seen from the 5th Dimension. The clothes and the choreography reflect the times (1968) but their performance is timeless.
Come on guys, this was the 60s where outfits were outta this world! These fit right in with the times and actually looked conservative compared to other groups! lol
There's Marilyn wearing her go-go boots. My family moved from the city to a rural school district in "68" and all the kids was like "What are you wearing?" My go-go boots you hicks! I wanted to look like Marilyn. She was my favorite singer. I was in the fourth grade. White and loving the 5th dimension. I didn't know anything about racism. Heck my first grade teacher, Miss Patton, was a black lady. I loved her! All I knew was this was great music! LOL!!!! Still is.
I remember they brought that style marilyn has on in the 8os iwas in my 20 s tall slim too it dosnt look good on every one it i ihope it dosnt come back ever tho
A beautiful song and such a great live performance with a really good band arrangement! I think it’s so important to credit the brilliant genius composer of the song, the late great Laura Nyro. She wrote many of the fifth dimension top hits, and Laura put out a few albums with her back up vocal group called LaBelle. that vocal group was led by Patti LaBelle, who obviously went onto great fame in the music world.
The 5th Dimension...NO one could sing this like Marilyn...The TOP class act above all the others...I can listen to these songs for hours...and HAVE for over 50 years
This, has to be one of the best ,highly produced " Live" chart performances on the Tube. The harmonies and vocals are just spot On. This, group is Flawless. When arrangements meant something. Can ,watch a thousand times easily...The real deal.Flying w/ Flo.-Thanks...
They are doing this live! That isn't readily apparent because they are so smooth in their transitions and it was common to lip synch on TV shows of the time. Outstanding!
My favorite of their performances of Stoned Soul Picnic; although I did like the slow surry they did in the 70s. But in this performance you can tell this is one of their favorites at the time.
@@johnharvey1903 Indeed! You hear Florence scream "OW" when the Song breaks into High Tempo! Awesome Vocals, Beauty All Around, Talent, Energy, Rhythm, Groove, Harmony, and The Outfits, UNIQUE as all Get Owt! OW! Loved them! They Had It All, ROCKED IT!
Oh my gosh, I just love these guys. Marilyn McCoo and Florence LaRue are so great! And I just love Billy Davis Jr., so powerful. Lamonte McLemore, who brought everybody together, and Ron Townson round out the group very well. So much fun to watch them!
They harmonize perfectly The Outfits was just stunning I loved everything about the 5th Dimension! That was a singing group I am so happy to have heard them as I was growing up, real singing!

I am posting from the past, no profanity, no disrespect, no excuses, no blame, 5D, so nice to see respect, love, etc. AWESOME.
A live performance of the 5th Dimension! Thank you for posting!
Back when Hi Karati was the cologne, towels came in boxes of Breeze Detergent, Coke came in glass bottles and my Uncle returned home from Vietnam.
What a great performance. Nothing like the CLASSICS. 60'S - 80'S was the best era of music Ever, by far.
This brings me back and conjures up something comfortable in me that I haven't felt since childhood.
The 60s dancing is so joyful and beautiful . My older brother had the LP this was off i used to love it as a kid and still do, what a group they were, fabulous!
Oh my God...
Those outfits, dance moves, brilliant singing, what is not to love about the 5th Demension. 🌞🌞🌞
That harmony!!!!! I'm loving these videos. Great compilation!
The arrangement between 1:50 to 2:07 is amazing.
I always love their matching color scheme but different outfits. ♥️
The only group who won the major categories in one night
Absolutely incredible! Most beautiful performance I’ve ever heard.
No lip-synching. Nice!
Great musicians live forever. Bravo ⚘
Priceless!

So good & Marylin was just gorgeous...
I love this
And from the sky come the lord and the lightning ⚡️
Effin' talent! Love them!

They are Awesome I love it they even look great all of them were are they
RIP Laura Nyro...
I really regret not seeing them in their prime. ☹️
Such smooth harmonies!
Love this song!q
the harmonys are just over the top the girls are awesome
I loved them growing up and this is one of my favorites but have so many from them to choose from. Of course a big crush on Marilyn McCoo as well.
OH...Marilyn 💕💕
I love this version and what makes it more fascinating is Laura Nyro probably had a wider range than this whole group of great singers.

I do love this music.. but WHAT A GEEK FEST!!
Surry is not a word.
Surry may be a shortening of "let's hurry" . You likely looked that up also right?
A Surrey is a light four-wheeled carriage with two seats facing forwards so makes total sense in the context of the song. Must try harder!
@@garyleigh6876 ...Nice 👍...... But it’s “S’urry” which Laura wrote to shorten up “Let’s Hurry”. Laura liked to use neologisms in her song writing.
beautiful music, awful outfits. ;)

Their music was called “champagne soul”. I grew up hearing this music and I still love it today! The 5th Dimension had class and were very talented.
Yep I agree, very classy, definitely had soul, harmony and melody!!
THIS WAS CALLED THE SHIT THE JAM A HIT SOUL MUSIC BLACK MUSIC ......UNTIL ALLOW NEXT TOO PAT BOONE

Me too I heard most of these oldies when I was seven and eight years old and up on 57 now just turned it
I loved that bridge and the chord progressions. Thanks Laura Nyro and Fifth Dimension
What makes this even more amazing is that this is a live performance. Thanks for posting.
You can even hear the mic test at the beginning
They make it look easy. It's not. What great voices they all had. And Marilyn.....well, just stunningly beautiful.
Florence is beautiful too
Gorgeous ladies but let me tell ya the dudes in this group are overlooked and they rock.
@@victorsforza5578 A great looking group with incredible lungs all round!
You are a great singer too TOM
They wore the GREATEST outfits!!!

Written and composed by 19 year old Laura Nyro.
The blue is esquisite💙💙💙💙
Beautiful song when people had talent, class and loved the art of making music.
Marylyn so beautiful.
Now, THIS was music! I love the 5th Dimension! Marilyn, Florence, Billy, Ron and Lamonte.
No autotune, no lip syncing, no nudity.........just PURE UNADULTERATED TALENT!!!

true that
Great composition by Laura Nyro, beautiful vocals by the 5th Dimension, classic and cool Mod outfits and dancing! Pure '60s timeless cool
Glad SOMEBODY found and captured this one. A real gem of a clip.😊😊.
This was done live and compares to studio production quite well.Florence & Marilyn just so great together.
Yep, you can hear the mike....sometimes back in the day when it was not live they would actually tell you.
Live vocals with a live orchestra. 👌😊
Typical Frank Sinatra ✔

I like the music arrangement on this very nice and sultry rip laura nyro

Thanks for sharing!! I love the 5th Dimension. They are attractive, elegant and very talented. : )
They were the best and still sound timeless all these decade later. Loved them all my life.
Another phenomenal song written by the great Laura Nyro!
music was so simple back then....refreshing.
ain't nothing simple 'bout those harmonies
Earth Wind & Fire influenced by the Dimension heavily especially the horns and Harmonizing

This is amazing. Better than the studio version.
my local grocery store HEB (texas) played this over speakers this morning. I grew up to this, good stuff
The Fifth Dimension’s live performance on the Andy Williams Show of “One Less Bell To Answer” is mesmerizing and legendary.
They are doing this live! That isn't readily apparent because they are so smooth in their transitions and it was common to lip synch on TV shows of the time. Outstanding!
And a quite complicated song to do in the first place too.
You bet I can surrey down to get stoned and picnic with you guys. They don't make music like this anymore, pass the pipe.
My favorite of their performances of Stoned Soul Picnic; although I did like the slow surry they did in the 70s. But in this performance you can tell this is one of their favorites at the time.
