Short answer, all of them. Long gone the days of crown vics and buicks 3.8s
I had a 1978 Buick Skylark with a 3.8😊
The 3.8 was a great engine. Had that engine in my 03' Lesabre that unfortunately rusted out underneath in 2020.
How about “what are the Best Buy’s American trucks “. Great series.
Ford does well in sales. UK-wise, I don't know why. I think we only have Fords
I’ve had both and both were great!
My mother inlaw leases a new Jeep Grand Cherokee every 3 years. They’re constantly in the shop and have so many rattles, squeaks and are literally falling apart after just 3 years.
We keep begging her to buy a 4Runner but she refuses.
Sadly she’s probably on her last one. If she makes it through this year we’ll be surprised.
Happily, she never gave in to the know-it-alls and did it her way.
@@653j521 And when her Grand Cherokee is in the shop for repairs, Us Know It All’s, have to drop our things to do to take care of her needs.
So buy a damn 4Runner and it’ll never be in the shop
I remember when foreign cars started to out sale American cars. For years American brands relied on the fact Americans would continue to by American, while they did nothing to improve their quality or reliability. Then Toyota, and Honda announced they where going to start building cars in the US. That was pretty much the end to Americans will always buy from American owned manufactures.
Every auto bailout, the Big 3 promise they've learned their lesson and will make efficient and RELIABLE cars. They come out with a few models, then go right back to putting all of their investment in 700 hp Jeeps and bringing back cars that went extinct to extract money from rich baby boomers who think cars were better in the past.
Meanwhile Toyota makes millions of RAV4s, Highlanders, Camrys and Corollas that reliably go 300k+ miles with no issues.
Yup, my ban on American brands continues
I love it, "my ban on American cars continues" is a monster quote. same here!! I'll stick with my Mazda.
I started my ban in the early 90s......lol
@@spacecowboy3456 2008, was burned way too many times by GM.
Never buy American. I too am part of that ban.

GM with their cyl deactivation system was originally put into their very Unreliable Cadillac 40 years ago, but then it was called the V8-6-4. It seems like GM hasn’t learned anything in 40 years.

We’ve been saving money for several years and we finally got enough to replace my old Ford pickup and we bought a 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road for me.
At my age and the 6-8K miles I drive annually, I’ll drive that truck until I’m dead.
My truck was a left over because no one wanted a 6’ bed, I bought it for over $4K off MSRP and still paid $48K.
To replace my 23 with an equivalent 24, it would cost $67K.
I’m sorry but the automakers have priced themselves out of our market.
I just wish auto manufacturers stop using the word "minivan", there is nothing mini about those vehicles, quite the opposite, they are huge.
Yes please, would love to see a video on good and reliable American cars. Thanks

All manufacturers engines are becoming terrible. Tiny 4 cylinders with tiny turbochargers in huge cars and trucks. Long gone are the days of 200k+ mile Toyotas and Fords
Nope.
There are still the best (Japanese) cars, naturally aspirated or hybrid, w/o turbo.
they don't make cars to last anymore, they want us to be buying them every 5-7 years.
Don't forget the motorcycle engines, the 3 cylinder engines that are now the trend.

You are right on with your list it is such a shame about these vehicles
Comparing American, German, British, Italian, Japanese & Korean manufacturers, its easy to say that the Japanese make the best cars, followed by Koreans. Their cars in this modern day n age last long, look decent without any major troubles over the years.
Ive owned/driven only Japanese & Korean over the last 20 years & much happier for it.
Korean? Hell no
Keep exploding all the time
I believe the main problem with many modern cars is that in order to comply with the new ecological standards (like CAFE), they have to double the number of parts in the engine, valves, ensors, electronics, etc. it does not add much to the fuel efficiency (maybe 5-7% in the city), but it doubles the price of cars and repairs. Here is the law of diminishing returns, and the "comfortable" part of the cost-return curve is over.
This is a major contributing factor for sure.
And yet, the Japanese can do it. Hmmm.
@@653j521yes, the Japanese can do it reliably and with a lower TCO, but for an increased price.
Eventually, the government's regulations are hitting us, the people they pretend to be protecting while killing them with stupid "green" very expensive regulations, allowing the big corporations to poison our food, drinks, air etc.
A brand new Corolla LE costs $26,000 (+taxes/fees) here in Ontario, Canada. An old 2012 Corolla with 200,000 miles costs around $11,000 (+taxes). That new Corolla will last as long as two old Corollas. The two old cars will need a lot more maintenance and parts replacements and engine repairs due to their old age. Will the $4,000 in savings in buying two used Corollas instead of one new one be able to pay for engine / transmission repairs/replacements in the old Corollas as opposed to buying a brand new car and not letting maintenance fall by the wayside the way most used car owners usually do?
I've never owned TOYOTA. I guess it's time for me to go that route..
Not anymore. Toyota engines are being found to have metal chips in them.
There is an engine recall recently.

Good day new subscribers here between 2019 -2022 Crv or 2019 -2022 Rav 4 2019-2022 cx5 which would you prefer and why looking forward for your expert advice.
I owned a Chrysler Pacifica hybrid (which I really liked) and a lil over a year after purchasing it brand new the hybrid battery had to replaced multiple times. 🤦🏾♀️ my van spent months at the dealership so finally I sold it.
I think that leasing anything today and only for 3 years is the only way to go for those who fear reliability issues. Give it back just before the full coverage warranty (3 years/36,000 miles) is finished.
For many brands yes
Yes, would love to see a video on reliable American vehicles.
I am on market for a new full size pickup truck. Which brand and model do you recommend? Thank you.
None of them are perfect, but your safest bets are the Toyota Tundra, or possibly a Ford F-150 with the 5.0L V8 if you get an amazing deal. You also can't go wrong with used Tundra up to 2021 with the 5.7L V8.
Love your videos! It is sad to see our domestic car mfgs with below average quality. Especially Ford and GM. Both mfgs are suffering from mediocre vehicles in the first place, but add on the quality issues, it makes things more difficult from which to recover. I am predicting that either Ford or GM will go broke in the next few years. Their inability to produce reliable BEVs is telling.
GM government motors and China SAIC will not be allowed to go broke. They will get bailout money from the government and China.
You forgot about the new Toyota tundra's and tacoma's. They are blowing up engines and transmissions daily.
I used to own a 2017 Cadillac ATS. Although it was a decent American car, I had a few issues that were surprising given that it was luxury branded. The rear axle differential needed replacement at 20K miles. At 25K miles, the CUE system completely locked up and needed replacement. And while the acceleration was very good for a small car, it's 8 speed auto tranny become problematic at around 25K miles. I would get excessive shuttering and engine vibrations at numerous and sporadic times while driving on flat roads, like it should be shifting into lower gear up a hill, but was struggling to get itself prepared for that. I was also getting a constant annoying squeal/pulsing squeak sound that wasn't attributed to the brakes nor suspension nor alignment issue, but it was suggested that a transmission bearing was going bad. My advice would be to avoid the 8 speed transmissions of GM, especially in pre-pandemic models.
Man - you did the Dodge Hornet dirty in this video LOL @7:04
I appreciate the standards this channel has. When a new Hyundai/Kia etc.. is introduced with all the bells and whistles and some auto experts award it car of the year this channel doesn't forget about the current recalls. Because the majority of failures occur after the warranty has expired.
You can also tell this channel thinks about cost of ownership/operation over the longer term when recommending a car. Because reliability scores are useless when every part required OEM/expensive and overly complicated.
Yes, they are one the best (together with The Car Care Nut, AutomotivePress, Scotty, Savagegeese, Tyre Reviews etc.) for giving you a better idea what to buy.
The snowflakes are looking at trends, design and some performance parameters.
While smart people research for reliability, low TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), longevity and other indicators giving you the resale values etc.
That's why the Korean clunkers are not at all on my shopping list, but only the Japanese segments' champions.
Maybe new STELLANTIS Pacifica minivans have declined in quality, but my 2019 Pacifica built under FCA has been a gem!🙂🙂
Glad to hear 😊
Of course a lot of "American built" cars of just fine. Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Subaru all have assembly plants in USA and Canada. Those four companies make quality products, and pay their workers well. So it's not WHERE the vehicle is made, it's the engineering and manufacturing process that makes these companies, good vehicles makers.
Subaru would be on the bottom of that list. That boxer engine and CVT are not up to the other Japanese auto makers
Jim Clarence, I work at a Honda plant that produces the Civic, CR-V, and starting next year, the Accord. We do have Japanese management overseeing the build quality of our vehicles, as it should be. I feel personally invested in the building of these vehicles as my family has/had eight Hondas total in the last 10 years…and still going!
@@carlovanrijk4039 Hi Carlo. Thanks for the info. Do you work at the Alliston, Ontario plant?
@@jimclarence5441 no, I work at the Greensburg, Indiana plant…been there for 11 years. I bought an Alfa Romeo Tonale Sprint model PHEV ( the base model, not the dolled up, expensive Veloce model, which is more readily more available, as for every Sprint model Alfa imported, they imported 9 Veloces ) almost a year ago. I was the first one to buy one in Canada, and basically bought it off the truck. I paid less then MSRP, and got it less then what a Ford Escape PHEV ( which at the time had a dealer mark up of $3,500, and add ons like $3,500 for Ford's Blue Cruise ) was going for, and where a RAV4 Prime ( basically the same price without add ons ) was ( and still is ) unavailable, and a 2 year old used Prime was selling for $14,000 more then my out the door price. Other then 9 recalls ( 2 for decals that did not have metric or French on them, that I did myself, 3 for checking high voltage connections were tight, no parts needed, 1 to replace a switch, and 3 for software updates, because where I live the vehicle would not update itself ) I have had zero problems with it, everything is operating above my expectations, and I am getting better electrical range and gas mileage then stated on the Vehicle MSRP sheet. It handles great, looks much nicer then its competition ( I compared the Sprint model against the Escape and Prime, where most reviewers, etc., compare the Veloce model that they are given by the dealers against the BMW X1 or Mercedes GLA, etc. which to me is not a fair comparison, especially a PHEV to a non PVEV ). It is not perfect, just like every vehicle in certain aspects, but I love it, love driving it, glad I bought it rather then any of the half dozen or so other PHEVS I test drove, and I would buy it again. And, it fits nicely in my garage.
All new vehicles have there problems, and mine did too, but the dealership I bought mine from, bent over backwards to accommodate me with the recalls, offered me a loaner while my vehicle was being serviced, and Alfa has resolved every issue with my vehicle, some well documented. I cannot say I would have gotten the same treatment from any other manufacturer.
Maybe I am lucky with my vehicle, but my whole experience, from buying it through to service, driving, etc., could not have been simpler, easier, stress free, and satisfying.
Great to hear you've been happy with it so far. Now hopefully it stays that way for at least a few years.
Good list. My daughter is considering a new Mustang Ecoboost. I noticed that you didn't mention the Mustang in your presentation. The 2.3L Turbo is a long time running powerplant, having had a 84 Merkur XR4Ti in the family. Is this an engine strong enough to take her 60k miles without worry? She is retired USN, so you can bet she drives aggressively.🤭
Mustangs are average. The V8 is the better engine, but you can get lucky with the EcoBoost when maintained well.
@@carhelpcorner If she kept a car longer than 5 or 6 years, l know that l would probably tell her to get a more reliable Japanese car. Maybe l'll suggest a Mazda 3 turbo. Not as fast, but still pretty quick.
Since Honda doesn't honor their warranties, EV's are out and a Toyyoyo is nothing a man would drive, what exactly should people buy?
Totally disagreed on the Ram 1500 very realable truck
Shari, in your opinion, what role do laws & regulations, salaries and benefits play in the quality issues of North American vehicles? Are the Big Three forced to cut corners in order to maintain their profit margins?
I think there are many contributing factors. Emissions regulations are certainly a big one. Rather than stick with well proven technology and make small refinements over time as the Japanese do, American brands tend to introduce new complicated technology every few years, and introduce new issues with it. Globalization is another major contributing factor. American brands are under immense pressure to cut costs, downsize, and outsource whenever they can. Many other factors play a role too.
Any new video on the 2025 Honda Civic hybrid?
Agree that the 3 cylinder Ford engines are a bit insane. Just too small for vehicles those sizes.
From they start working with Chinese builders and Stellantis group, they drop the quality so badly that I'm afraid theres is a NO return point for the brands.
Where is the Quality Control ( QC ), Quality Assurance ( QA )???
Don't blame others, blame yourself first!!!!!! 😡
@@Mike_257 QA & QC has a big impact on the earnings............. so.
Let’s forget about design issues for now. With that aside, American workers in manufacturing factories don’t have dedication, skills and craftsmanship like Japanese workers. Too many new employees who don’t know what they are doing. Veterans only care about their pension and retirement… it’s just cultural difference. Japanese are workaholic and more paranoid about their work quality. I’m not saying it’s a good thing necessarily but from quality of product stand point… yes I rather buy a car produced in Japan than here even though it’s the same model:brand

I am a Ford guy, but I do not buy any of the EcoBoost/turbo cars. I had an older Ford Explorer. I drove it until I crashed it. It had 200,000 miles on it. It was front wheel drive with a V6 engine. Stelantis has got to be the worst company out there. They are in the process of hiring a new marketing director. Unbelievable. First off Chrysler is not American, Chrysler is part of the Stellantis NV conglomerate as of 2023. Stellantis is the result of a merger between Fiat Chrysler and PSA Group, forming one of the largest automakers in the world. Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and others also build cars in North America, that doesn't make them "American". Ford builds cars in Mexico, that doesn't make them a Mexican automaker. I have had a RAM 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi for 10 years now. I have had absolutely no problems. In fact my friend bought a Tundra the same year. He paid the similarly equipped Tundra $15K more than my Ram. The Tundra turned out to be a complete rust bucket 🤣 Having said that my local dealer is selling a 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid for a ridiculous $90K plus tax and delivery!!!! Oh and it makes 20 mpg combined, just barely better than my 2014 RAM🤣🤣 In many cases Toyota dealers are marking up their vehicles way above MSRP. For me I would rather pay way less for an "American" pickup and buy an extended warranty if need be. My local dealer is selling a 2024 RAM 1500 Sport for $67K with the 5.7 Hemi, add a $3K extended warranty and Bob's your uncle (BTW - I'm sure I could negotiate even a better price with Chrysler)! In any case, the Hurricane engine is not "brand new" the engine made its debut in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer in 2022. Sad to see the 5.7 Hemi go, it is a great, proven engine. Unfortunately, emission requirements are forcing manufacturers to go with turbos. BTW - J.D. in my opinion, the only new american car worth buying right now is 2024+ chevy trax. I bought a brand new Trax 1RS for $26,000 CAD ($19,000 USD). The car is bigger than a ux250h for half the price. The 5 year warranty will cover any unreliability issues, so who cares. For equivalent money, I'd be looking up high mileage beat up corollas so it's absolute no brainer to buy it. I also wouldn't be losing much on resale value since the car cost nothing to begin with. Tesla depreciates more in 1 year than the entire cost of this car.
Sound logic. Totally agree 👍
