Australia gained independence in 1901. The ACT in 1986 was to re-align our constitution to reflect our role as an independent nation. The queen/sovereign that you see on our coins is the constitutional monarch of our country. When the sovereign visits Australia, then they are greeted as the King/Queen of Australia, not the UK.

Brad you really need to be prepared for the sun in Australia, there are a few reasons you burn quicker and more severely here, one of them is the relevant lack of air pollution, we know our track record in Australia for generating pollution isn’t wonderful. Sydney is on the same latitude south as Los Angeles is north but because air pollution blocks the sun’s rays, hence lowering the effect of UV rays, everything else being equal you will burn quicker and more severely in Sydney. This isn’t a dig at the USA if you came from China I would be making the same comparison to a Chinese city. Good idea to carry a factor 50 with you in summer even if it is overcast.
