Also, the Sydney city public transport system (Opal) has a daily cap of $16.80AUD per person (or a weekly cap of $50AUD). Once you hit that limit the extra journeys during that period are free. So worth optimising all your trips to take advantage of the caps. Especially if you are here for a calendar week, $50 for unlimited ferry, train, light rail and bus rides is fantastic value for a tourist (note: and travel cap on the weekend is only $8.40 per day!).

Thank you for making these videos and showing how "real" people can travel. I see far too many videos where travel vloggers are showing off flying in business class/suites, staying in the fanciest hotels...and while it's all really cool, most people cannot do that. And it doesn't matter that they aren't necessarily paying for those flights/hotels out of pocket (they're getting sponsored, etc.)...on one hand, it's cool, on the other hand, it's discouraging. Travel doesn't have to be that way to be enjoyable. Keep up with the amazing content!

USD$300 = AUD$465 so not as little as first thought.
I am embarrassed to say that living in Sydney (more on than off), for 60 years, I have never walked across the harbour bridge. Climbed it, but only driven across. I have never walked around North Sydney, only driven through it heading further North. I will be doing both next week during my staycation. My last ferry ride was in the 70's...I'm disgusted with myself for taking so much locally for granted...right under my nose!
    The QVB is a jewel...priceless.
A quick search of my diary finds I have been to the Honolulu Zoo in Queen Kapiʻolani Park 7 times versus Taronga Zoo 3 times. 23 years since my last local visit. Doing that next week too. Three day staycation at AUD$100 per day...no problem.
This video has made me super excited to re-visit my home town. I'm going to leave the car in the garage for a few days and public transport my way to Manly, zoo, Chinatown and The Rocks. Thanks for the wake-up call. Let the local adventure begin...

Thank you for showcasing my home city! Sydney is notorious for being one of the most expensive cities but you can find affordable things if you’re willing to look. The bridge climb is fantastic but as you said is ridiculously expensive…you can however go up one of the pylons instead. I’ve always been curious about Laneway dumplings cos I see the sign all the time. I feel lucky in that Sydney has a diverse range of different cuisines which are high quality. If you guys come back you should try and make it out to the blue mountains. Also the Bondi to bronte walk is another hike to do…I loved the spit to manly walk because it hugs the harbour and you get to see the bush right in the middle of the city 😊

Welcome back guys. The weather is perfect this time around. So disappointed for you guys that first time around. I was the guy that recommended Harry's Cafe de Wheels and you tried out the Newcastle outlet last time so really pleased you made it to Woolloomooloo the original place where the name was made famous. The stands around North Sydney Oval were originally stands at our famous Sydney Cricket Ground (fondly known as the SCG ) that were relocated in their entirety being heritage listed, when the State Government decided to upgrade and modernise the Sydney Cricket Ground with big concrete stands. Two of the original stands still remain at the Sydney Cricket Ground namely the members and ladies stands. The Occidental Hotel used to be my favourite drinking pub on a Friday after the finish of the working week. The Spit Bridge to Manly walk is sensational, that which I have done so many times in the past. Below the zoo alongside the harbour is another superb bush track walk that goes all the way around to Chowder Bay. You would love that walk too. So pleased you enjoyed your 3 days here in Sydney. So many memories you have bought back to me so thanks so much for this. Enjoy the rest of your stay. 🤩

Thank you for a great, entertaining and informative video. I visited Sydney in 2009, and this reminded me so much of my own trip. We also took the ferry to Manly and walked around in the city and the Harbour. At that time there was a public transport type called Monorail and we took it for a full tour around the city evening time. Fantastic. Sadly it was dismantled and removed a few years later. I have friends in Austraila and wish to visit again some time. This video encouraged me a lot 😊

Totally agree - the Manly Ferry is a beautiful way to see Sydney Harbour. I used to get the ferry. Coming back after 5.00pm is magical- particularly when the sun is setting behind the Harbour Bridge.

    Welcome back to Sydney.
Hope you come back again. There are so many note worth suburbs that need a visit as well that are beyond the well known beachside suburbs of Manly, Bondi etc (there are 100+ beaches, so easy to miss many). Places like Eastwood, Leichardt, Newtown/Erskinville, Glebe through to Chatswood and Annandale, Surry Hills and even Marrickville. Ever suburb has something food or culture wise that is worth heading there for. (There are at least 7 China towns for example in Sydney that all seem to dwarf the one in the CBD)
With regards to Manly. Hope you went to the other side of Manly where the ocean facing beach is.
Always great to end with some Taiwanese as well :) And you're so spot on about just jumping on that plane and having an adventure without going crazy with money.
My very first big venture out of Sydney decades ago was literallly to Taiwan.... and in one foul swoop.... you're hooked.

While it is expensive, the bridge climb is exhilarating. When I went a few years ago, it just happened to be during the Vivid light & music festival - the entire city becomes an art installation of lights and sound. And it's (mostly) all free! (Doing the bridge climb at night with the city all lit up with lights from the festival was especially cool.)

If you want to really do Sydney on the cheap, you need to head west and away from the city/coast. Also surprised you didn't do the Bondi to Coogee walk. I personally dislike Bondi Beach but it is the touristy thing to do and the views along that particular walk is better than the Spit to Manly walk. Its also free! Actually apart from food and accommodation, Sydney on a budget is easy if like walking/are into nature stuff and the weather is cooperative.

Manly Beach is a surf beach, divided into North Steyne and South Steyne.

Mother Chu’s says it’s a vegetarian restaurant. But you said you got braised pork. Was it perhaps somewhere nearby Mother Chu’s or just some other place? It looks amazing and I want to go when we are there soon

Looks like you had a great time. One question though. Did you not go to Manly Beach? It's only a 10 minute walk from the ferry wharf. The area you were at is called Manly Cove, and definitely isn't Manly Beach. If you did, bit it wasn't in your video, Ok. You definitely wouldn't be the first vloggers to get off the ferry and think they were at Manly Beach though. One thing Sydney is kind of famous for is it's surf beaches.

Great question! We did walk over to that side but it unfortunately got suddenly rainy and windy, so we opted for the brewery and headed back to the wharf area :) Can definitely see why people might miss it though.

@@LisaAndJosh Yeah. Bad luck about the rain. It makes things difficult when you are on a budget and also have a time constraint. But it was Manly, and there was a beach. So, it's not exactly wrong.

The Harbour Bridge Pylon Lookout ($25) is a cost effective alternative to the Bridgeclimb ($300+) and gives a very similar 360 degree view of the harbour & CBD.

Manly Wharf is only half of the experience.
You are supposed to then walk East along The Corso to the ocean beach.
Then walk back to the wharf to take the ferry back to Circular Quay.
