Thank you for your great video and for your great honesty .you are speaking the way that I really like it because of this, I am planning on coming to Sydney and to enjoy some of the nice beautiful scenery during my three weeks vacation . I actually live in Montreal Canada 🇨🇦 so I will make a big huge trip across the globe around September. Thank you very much.
I’ve lived in Sydney for more than 40 years. Never heard of anything called the “Bay Bridge” I think you mean the Harbour Bridge, sometimes called “the Coathanger” You also didn’t mention that tipping is not required because business owners pay their staff and dont force employees to extract more money from customers. For that reason Australian restaurant meals are not as expensive as you might think. You can still tip if you want to but it’s not required as it is in the USA the price on the menu is, like all retail prices in Australia, inclusive of any taxes. It is illegal to quote a price then add tax.
Chris, you're my favorite travel guide youtuber. There's no BS with u, straight to the point, clear, concise. You've helped me tremendously with your japan guide, and now you've helped me again with Sydney. Keep up the good work champ
The opal card used for all public transport around Sydney has a daily cap of 16.8 AUD and weekly cap of 50 AUD, so just used them and do not worry about the high price single trips.
Australian coffee is so good that only the tourists go to Starbucks. All the others closed as the coffee is poor compared to just about any other cafe.
Starbucks has suckered Americans into buying their grade B burnt coffee , but Australians know better. Been to Oz numerous time and only ever had one cup of coffee as bad as Starbucks.
As a Malaysian who will be travelling to Sydney early next year, I gotta say I got a little too excited with the Malaysian spot recommendations. Definitely gonna give them a try!
Really good review to this wonderful city that I know well. The Opal Card also works on the train out to Katoomba for the Blue Mountains. One criticism, nobody calls it the Bay Bridge - it’s the Harbour Bridge.
Or just "the bridge" (as opposed to taking the tunnel). Opal card also works for all the public buses in the blue mountains I've encountered and many on the central coast. Sydney is mostly cashless but get out into more rural areas you MUST have cash, including coins
This is an excellent video on Sydney. I now live in San Francisco but as an ex Manly Beach resident I strongly urge visitors to catch the ferry out to Manly, grab some fish and chips and just sit on the beach. Vastly superior experience to Bondi Beach.
If anyone wants to see just how jam-packed and insane Bondi is in the summer, watch some episodes of Bondi Rescue on TH-cam. It's like the Freemont Experience, but on a beach. My favourite thing in Manley was hiking the paths between Manley and Shelly Beach. Used to be excellent nightlife there as well, but I wouldn't know now as that was 10 years ago for me.
I like this video . I was a Sydneysider for most of my life and you really get the vibe of the place . It’s a vibrant city. Stunningly beautiful , alive even grimy at times . I love Sydney ❤
Great work, Chris! As someone who lives in Sydney I can confirm you did a great job of summarising everything. Note: Sydney's shops and attractions used to be open much later before the Covid lockdowns. As things steadily go back to normal and tourism returns everything will go back to opening late. Be sure to come back and visit again in the summertime!
I'm a journalist and film-maker with 36 years professional experience in the media, and I'm from Sydney. The (privately owned) train from the airport to the Sydney city-centre is very over-priced. So, try _Uber_ if you're sharing the ride, or maybe even if you're _not_ sharing. The airport is eight kilometres from the city-centre, not "ten kilometres" as stated in this video. Also note that Uber drivers tend to be _far more honest_ than drivers of metered-fare cabs in Sydney. Just a heads-up. That airport train is the only part of the Sydney rail system that is _privately_ owned. The rest of the train network is government-operated and very fairly priced. I hope this helps.
Speaking as a longtime Sydney resident, this isn't bad. We do tend to avoid Bondi tho - too touristy these days (but quicker to catch train from Central or Town Hall to Bondi junction then bus from there, than catching the bus from Central and probably uber re traffic). But glad you mentioned the coastal walks and the ferries. Liked that you highlighted our zoo - it truly is fantastic. But I'd suggest a full day there and start NOT with the cable car but catching the bus up to the entrance, walk all the way down 1 side of the zoo then catch the cable car back up and walk down a different way (it's hilly). Top tip: don't miss the Bird Show; and if you want to see the Aussie animals actually doing anything it's best to start there as soon as gates open in my experience (and hope you don't encounter any noisy ppl in these enclosures) And obviously the whole experience is better if you get a fine day (if it's raining I'd do a museum instead - The Australian Museum is my pick, so much more there than you mentioned and they really go all out to make it relevant for kids too - but if you get bored the art gallery is only about 5 mins walk across the Domain)
I am amazed at how comprehensive your vlog is about Sydney. Thank you. It will surely bring more tourists . Sydney is my home for over 40 years, originally from the Philippines.
The Opera Bar has one of the best views of Sydney Harbour. It didn't seem that packed in the video, probably cause it's winter. Having actually worked there myself back in January/February/Mach in 2013, I will say something to keep in mind during the summer months, or if there's a major performance going on, is that it's packed elbow to elbow and good luck finding a place to sit.
I noticed you know how to pronounce Melbourne. Well done. My wife and I appreciate your videos a lot. We use them to help us study up a place ahead of time. Your Hawaii videos and these that deal with Australia are all wonderful. Thanks.
Thank you for starting with more important basics such as where the airport is and pointing out neighborhoods. You're awesome and presented wonderfully and thoroughly!
I'm about to go to Sydney alone on October 19 to November 1 and I am super thankful you recently covered this city. Most of the popular videos are pre-covid.
For more Chinese/Viet food go to Cabramatta or Ashfield, FOr Indian go to Harris Park, For Cafes, Pastries go to Inner West (Haberfield, Petersham, Newtown, Marrickville) or Darlinghurst/Paddington, for shopping go to Chatswood, Bondi Westfield or CBD, For attaractions go CBD, Northshore (milsons point/kirribilli), Olympic park, Blue Mountains, Go to any pub for classic australian food, if you're more of an explore I'd definitely cathc a ferry to parra and explore along the river or go to national parks on the outskirts of Sydney (Wattamolla), Bars & Clubs, Newtown, Barangaroo, Kings Cross, CBD. Reeeeaaaaallly recommend checking out the trendy neighborhoods in the inner west! Beaches, Balmoral, Neilsen Park, Manly, Coogee, CLovelly (chekc out Bondi during off seasons), do the coastal walk from bondi to coogee. Restaurants to check out, definetly agree with Mamak and Ho Jiack, Tottis (Italian), Chefs Gallery (modern Chinese), verandah bar, kid kyoto, cool mac, grounds of alexandria, grumpy baker, gloriettas, mina's bakery, not just curries, drunk dumpling, happyfield, devon cafe, messina, mapo ice cream, bentley, rockpool, old mates place, fex & co, mumu, butter, tetsuyas, bread & circus, el loco, harajuku gyoza bar, ichi-ban boshi, XOPP, rag & famish, maybe sammy, and so much more (never been in a better foodie city than sydney)
Great work Chris, you covered a lot of ground in a short time. There are also many national parks and more beaches within 40 minutes of the CBD. I hope you enjoyed your time with us!
Lovely video. Sydney is the best city in Australia. Amazing coastal scenery, beautiful birds and scenic walks besides the ocean, with great sightseeing. A total package for tourists.

Thanks for the concise and informative overview of our city. The lockout laws destroyed night life but things are changing. For a more bohemian area with food and nightlife, check out Newtown and Enmore (side by side). Enmore theatre has shows too. King St Newtown is booming. If you want a good open air market with diverse food go to Chatswood on Thursday and Friday. 9am to 9pm.
Great review 😊 FYI - The lockout laws for pubs & clubs are completely gone now. So you can bar hop as long as a place is open & as much as you like 😊 Oh it's the Harbour Bridge not the Bay Bridge. Yes there is a difference! 😉
If with kids choose powerhouse museum and bring a wet outfit for the water play area in Darling Harbour, best free outdoor entertainment for young ones in summer
Awesome vid! Only correction though is that as of 2020 majority of those lockout laws are thankfully gone! Also for night life defs head over to enmore and newtown! I also suggest for people visiting to head for the under ground bars in YCK precinct in the city centre. Each of the beaches also have their own nightlift culture
As a home-grown Aussie, your tips about discovering Sydney is the best and most accurate video I have seen. There were some minor pronunciation glitches, but so minor not worth a mention. Well done Chris.
Great review but I would change the title to "Central Sydney Travel". Area-wise, Sydney is one of the largest cities in the world with way more to see and do than what you've shown. It's known as "The city of Villages" for a good reason, there are dozens or major urban centres throughout the city, each with their own identity and charm. What you've shown is great for a short visit but if you have the time, there's so much more to see. I'm an ex-pat North American living in Sydney btw
Very helpful !! Looking forward to turning 50 in Sydney and then flying home to the US west coast that day to stretch the special day out as long as possible !! 😁
This is a very good guide to Sydney, I would urge anyone watching and planning on visiting Sydney to try to make time to venture out of the city as there are a lot of very beautiful areas surrounding Sydney. Also the diversity of food is much bigger than you described with very good examples of just about any national cuisine you can imagine although it can be very expensive to eat in Sydney. One minor correction the bridge is called the Harbour Bridge not the Bay Bridge but Sydneysiders call it the coat hanger.
I disagree that Sydney is expensive to eat. That's a mistake by people who can't add up or convert the currency. There are plenty of cheaper and more varied places to eat than were shown. Don't forget these were all tourist/CBD traps. Tax is included in the price and you don't tip, both of which make eating in America expensive except for all the junk food.
Thank you for this very well-produced and excellent video. It is quite comprehensive and one of the best ones on Sydney travel tips! I will be checking out your other videos.
Having just returned from there this week, one major thing has changed. Tipping is a thing now. It's not like they will hold it against you of you don't, but it is certainly accepted. Ten years ago they would chase you down the road to return it, but not any more. My pub crawl guide explained that "nowadays, they certainly won't refuse it." As someone who has lived and worked in Sydney before , i can say this is definitely a shift towards more American practices, and understably so.
Although I'm an old Ozzy but a melburnian , I think you did a great job showing us around Sydney , I saw plenty I did not know about Sydney. Thank you .
I’m so impressed. You absolutely did your homework and this is the definitive Sydney guide. Excellent work. I look forward to seeing your other videos.
You presented my city really well. I however, you missed out on Newtown. Amazing Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisine. I wish you all the success on your channel.
Very nice video Chris! It Brings back a lot of memories of our 2 trips to Sydney(one in the winter and one in the summer). By the way I remember laksa was introduced to me as an Indonesian dish😬One advantage we got during both trips is that both times my wife’s cousins were taking care of our stay and sightseeing’s 👍one more thing - I would not rent a car and drive in Sydney if you are coming from USA.
@@YellowProductions Sydney has a fairly extensive public transport network, especially trains, to a level most US citizens wouldn't be familiar. It's also relatively cheap to get around by train. The "City Circle" takes you around most the CBD and stations are usually within walking distance of attractions. Also trains are an excellent way to venture further afield, such as to Wollongong for their beaches, or to the Blue Mountains for some exploring out there.
As you said, there are prettier beaches all thru Sydney but Bondi isn’t famous for its looks or lack of dear Alison. It’s famous because surf lifesaving and rescue began there and then Bondi gave it to the world.
One important point in to be sun smart. Wear sunscreen even if you're there in winter or it's a cloudy day. Australian sun is extremely harsh compared to North American or European sun.
Great video, very compact and insightful. This brings back memories of my trip to Sydney a couple years back. I stayed around George St, great location and it has easy access to the free bus.
I really enjoyed this video! Even though I’ve never been to Sidney this video made me feel like I could navigate around if I were there. Also psyched about the Malaysian food as it’s something I don’t have a lot even though I’m sure there’s some in SoCal where I live!
Wonderful Video! If your flying in from the USA, stay for a minim of 7 days, 14 days if you can. Allow a day for your internal clock to catch up. You will have plenty to do! Do your self a favor and just buy an opal card and use the public transport!
As a Sydneysider I am surprised about how high quality this video is, would have loved to see my local beach of Cronulla here as well as it is a nice beach to the south with a train station just a block away.
These are very helpful information...very very well done mate..I'll be visiting sydney in late Octobe this year for 3 days and 2 nights....fast and furious visit and want to maximize my stay during those times.
Wow this is a fantastic video! Well presented with good tips and suggestions. It has definitely helped my wife and I as we begin our trip planning to Australia next year. Thanks!
Thank You Chris. Your trip report on Sydney is excellent. It could be used as a resource for not only visitors but also travel students. This is coming from an Australian that has visited Sydney a number of times. Well done.
Hi Chris. Thanks for the great tips. Sydney is a beautiful place and many things to do.I would have a fun time exploring the city. Those side alleys could have some interesting finds. Being sort of a foodie, I could really immerse myself with all the different types of food , especially the seafood. Definitely a foodie paradise. Take care.
Thanks James! Sydney has some really delicious food! And yes. The Seafood market was pretty awesome. I'll have a full tour of the fish market coming up
Watched this before we went to Sydney, it was very helpful. The Aussie coffee is my new favorite better than SB. Seafood Fish Market was the best for yummy seafood! Can't wait to go back. 😊
What a fantastic travellers guide as to what to do while holidaying in Sydney. I've lived in the Western suburbs all my life, 63 years, and even I haven't been to many of the places mentioned. 😅
Excellent well thought-out video, I have lived in Sydney all my life, This video was great to remind me how good Sydney really is, I'm from the north shore of Sydney ( best side of Sydney to live :-) . sorry those south of the harbour ) it was great to hear you pronounce Bondi and Melbourne correctly, for those visiting Sydney, a great tour is via helicopter that leaves from Sydney Airport, takes you to the Harbour Bridge, over the Taronga Zoo, up to Manly and then down the coast to beaches south of Bondi and back to the airport, I recently took my wife on this chopper tour, it was a brilliant sunny day, of which we get a lot of during Summer, she loved every moment.. ( note to those fair skinned , use 50+ if your going to spend more than an hour in the sun in summer ), Bondi and Manly are both great beaches, but, you would hard pressed to find a bad beach in Sydney, on a good day its fantastic, clean water nice waves to surf, definitely go swimming, swim between the Flags, as an ex life saver, the water can look safe,, but rips and undercurrents can really surprise you (not in a good way) if your not a strong swimmer. Back in the day you could walk on rocks between the beaches and find so much Sealife and shellfish, now its really only visible at low tide, but,, the walk is nice, waves crashing on the rocks can be spectacular. As the producer mentioned, its hard to be anywhere in Sydney and not hear a myriad of accents from every corner of the world, its one of the great things about Sydney, most ppl are really friendly, after travelling the world, there are many really nice places,, Sydney is right up there with the best, dare I say it.. I wouldn't live anywhere else. For those who live in large cities and don't have lots of space, Hire a car and drive out of the city in any direction ( except east) and you will see the real Australia, rolling hills, wildlife, green pastures, Just think, that the nearest large City is around 9 hours drive from Sydney, Melbourne to the South, Brisbane to the North, Its a pretty big place .. for those about to visit, have a great time..
Hey mate, local here, great info in this video - going to subscribe - but we call it The Harbour Bridge not The Bay Bridge haha. If anyone's interested, Sydney CBD is a veeeeery small part of Sydney, unfortunately, tourists never get to see the real Sydney out West - that's where the best food is and accommodation is much, much cheaper than The City.
Agreed mate. A quick trip out to Parramatta and it's like you're in a whole new Sydney. I hate Sydney, after 30 years of living there, and moved out bush, but it has so much more to offer outside of the CBD, for visitors, much of which is a an easy train trip away. I'd also suggest Cabramatta for visitors, and locals, for a unique experience, and awesome food. Cabramatta is not as bad as it was 25 or 30 years ago, when I lived close to the area in Livo.
Prawn not shrimp! 🍤 Opal Will take you as far north as Newcastle, up to the Hunter Valley (change at Hamilton) West to Blue Mountains & south to Wollongong. Here in Newcastle we hsve3 ocean pools all free. Newcastle ocean Botha. The Bogey hole (dig out of the cliff by convicts) & Merewether Baths
Just watched your video and I live in Sydney. Took your tip and had lunch at Spice Alley with my wife and granddaughter. It is a great eatery. Never heard of it before. Thanks for the tip
as a local, i recommend going to the emperor puffs stall at china town, they sell these custard filled pancake balls for cheap. Also, heck out the Glebe vintage clothes markets every saturday near Broadway shopping centre in the city. For a museum, I would go to Chau Chuk Wing in the city at the university of Sydney, its free and has exhibits with artefacts from Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome and from the indigenous peoples of Australia.

your video are amazing with all the detail that i dont even know that i would need!! thank you!!
Happy to help!
What a fantastic city to visit as a tourist . Manly beach was beautiful .
Very helpful !! Looking forward to turning 50 in Sydney and then flying home to the US west coast that day to stretch the special day out as long as possible !! 😁
Thanks Jason
I agree with everyone...you did a great job. I live in Brisbane, been to Sydney like 8 times or so, but there is always something new to see.
Australia is so far away from everywhere in the world, but that makes it worth visiting, just got to decide the best time!!!
NOT Nov to March. Too hot.
I’m so lucky to see this! It’s very informative, very helpful for me. Hope to see more videos like this 👍👍👍👍👍
This is a very good guide to Sydney, I would urge anyone watching and planning on visiting Sydney to try to make time to venture out of the city as there are a lot of very beautiful areas surrounding Sydney. Also the diversity of food is much bigger than you described with very good examples of just about any national cuisine you can imagine although it can be very expensive to eat in Sydney. One minor correction the bridge is called the Harbour Bridge not the Bay Bridge but Sydneysiders call it the coat hanger.
Thanks Stephen's
I disagree that Sydney is expensive to eat. That's a mistake by people who can't add up or convert the currency. There are plenty of cheaper and more varied places to eat than were shown. Don't forget these were all tourist/CBD traps.
Tax is included in the price and you don't tip, both of which make eating in America expensive except for all the junk food.
Thank you for this very well-produced and excellent video. It is quite comprehensive and one of the best ones on Sydney travel tips! I will be checking out your other videos.
Thanks S Comti!
I’m moving to Sydney in December from the UK, I found this video very helpful, cheers man 👍🏻
Thanks Make it Rain!
Perfect, I'm visiting Sydney in early November!
Enjoy Sydney UberDurable!
Thank you for the tips! I’m in Sydney now and this is really helpful for today’s sightseeing ❤
This is an absolutely informative tour. It got me to make up my mind to go to Sydney.
Awesome Effandi!
This is really EXCELLENT !
Totally well researched & presented.
I cannot recommend it enough.
Many Thanks mate ;)
Thanks Bazz!
Thanks for sharing the tipping update Michael!
South West Sydney. Liverpool, Bankstown and Fairfield is the best for food trips. So much multi cultural cuisines and resturants.
I've been living in Sydney for over 45 yrs and PUDO is also new to me....never heard of it, but thanks.
An excellent and comprehensive guide. Well done.
Thanks Anna!
作为一个华人,谢谢你给audience带来了不一样的perspective❤❤❤
Although I'm an old Ozzy but a melburnian , I think you did a great job showing us around Sydney , I saw plenty I did not know about Sydney.
Thank you .
Thanks Dude! 😀
Just wanna say, you make great travel videos! I’ve gotten to the point that I search for your videos when I’m planning a trip :-)
Awesome! Thank you!
You always find the best food places. That seafood basket looked soooo good!
It was really good!
Thank you so much for this video! My husband and I are going for our honeymoon soon and this is so helpful!
Glad you found it helpful! Enjoy your honeymoon!
Thank you this has been most enjoyable to watch compared to other vids about Sydney I came across. Planning to visit Sydney in Feb 2024.
Awesome!
I’m so impressed. You absolutely did your homework and this is the definitive Sydney guide. Excellent work. I look forward to seeing your other videos.
Thank you so much John!
This style of vlogging is much better. Love it.
Glad you enjoyed this one :)
Solid video! Few pronunciation points: Clovelly = Clough-vel-e. Coogee = could-g. Bondi = Bon-die
You presented my city really well. I however, you missed out on Newtown. Amazing Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisine. I
wish you all the success on your channel.
Thanks Alek!
Thanks Homer!
@@YellowProductions do you need a visa to visit Australia? Do you have a Brisbane video? Do you think everything in this video can be done in a week?
I never know why Bondi is popular…the Northern beaches are so much nicer. There is a bus goes all the way to Palm Beach from the city
Thanks for that tip Michael
Great video, very compact and insightful. This brings back memories of my trip to Sydney a couple years back. I stayed around George St, great location and it has easy access to the free bus.
Thanks Sheriza!
Sydney is beautiful ❤
Great job! Best travel video I’ve seen.
great video!
Thanks!
I really enjoyed this video! Even though I’ve never been to Sidney this video made me feel like I could navigate around if I were there. Also psyched about the Malaysian food as it’s something I don’t have a lot even though I’m sure there’s some in SoCal where I live!
Awesome CaliforniaK!
Thanks JayJay!
The Rydges in The Rocks is my favourite accommodation in Sydney. Well priced and in a great part of the city.
Thanks for the tip!
Sir Stamford on macquarie street is also central near the quay
This is by far the best video on visiting Sydney I've seen. Well done
Wow, thank you!
These are very helpful information...very very well done mate..I'll be visiting sydney in late Octobe this year for 3 days and 2 nights....fast and furious visit and want to maximize my stay during those times.
Glad it was helpful! Have fun in Sydney!
Great stuff Chris. I’m from Sydney and you taught me a few things I didn’t know. Outstanding and very informative 👍🏻
Thanks GJM!
I guess it will more busier now
Great video, very informative, thank you so much
Wow this is a fantastic video! Well presented with good tips and suggestions. It has definitely helped my wife and I as we begin our trip planning to Australia next year. Thanks!
Right on. Thanks Victor!
Thank You Chris. Your trip report on Sydney is excellent. It could be used as a resource for not only visitors but also travel students. This is coming from an Australian that has visited Sydney a number of times. Well done.
Thanks Giuseppe!
Small correction at 1:22. It's the Harbour Bridge, not the Bay Bridge - although San Francisco is beautiful too!
I'll have a full tour of the fish market coming up
Foodie paradise?
The whole place is similar to nyc
Watched this before we went to Sydney, it was very helpful. The Aussie coffee is my new favorite better than SB. Seafood Fish Market was the best for yummy seafood! Can't wait to go back. 😊
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the feedback!
What a fantastic travellers guide as to what to do while holidaying in Sydney. I've lived in the Western suburbs all my life, 63 years, and even I haven't been to many of the places mentioned. 😅
Thanks Debbie!
Thank you. I plan on visiting Sydney within the nxt few years. I love Australia!
this was awesome. thanks for the highly detailed video and the all of the great recommendations. super helpful to plan a trip to sydney
Your videos on Australia have been great!
Thanks tomm!
Thanks for the awesome extra local tips! Agreed that Sydney is a great city
Great video!! Thx for all the travel tips~!
Thanks Hardcore hustle. Definitely a mental slip on the bridge name!
@@YellowProductions all is forgiven haha welcome to AUS!
Great video Chris! Wonderful comprehensive guide specially for those like me who plan to visit for the 1st time.
Thanks Norvic!
The pool at the beach was cool.
Prawn not shrimp! 🍤 Opal
Will take you as far north as Newcastle, up to the Hunter Valley (change at Hamilton) West to Blue Mountains & south to Wollongong.
Awesome Shaboh!
This is probably the best and most fascinating travel video I have ever seen. Excellent work. Well done !
Thanks Greg!
as a local, i recommend going to the emperor puffs stall at china town, they sell these custard filled pancake balls for cheap.
Thanks for the tips!
