      I don't think the CGI looks better per se. They definitely use a lot less of it too, like the Lion King is basically an animated movie. That said Paddington visually looks more appealing as a film than the Lion King but that doesn't really have much to do with budget

    I’ve come to learn that just because a movie gets 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, that doesn’t mean it’s a flawless masterpiece. It simply means that all of the critics who reviewed it agree it is good, possibly even great.
    There’s actually quite a few 100% films on RT that certainly earn their lone (I.e. Leave No Trace, One Cut of the Dead, etc), and Paddington 2 is no exception. I argue that both Paddingtons are some of the greatest children’s films ever made because they’re target audience is universal. Kids can enjoy the silly gags and adorable stuff, while adults can enjoy all the clever humor and gorgeous filmmaking. I just can’t imagine a good reason for anyone to flat out dislike the movies other to be one of those rotten tomatoes contrarians who try to ruin 100% ratings.

    • @AlkisenSuper
      @AlkisenSuper 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      But is it the greatest movie ever made? Does it even crack the top 5, in fact? That's the point.
      Rotten Tomatoes' system is very flawed for this reason since the rating doesn't fully reflect what people actually think of the movie. Something being rated 100% means nothing if the positive reviews are just "Yeah, it was okay/decent".

    when I was a freshman in high school, a teacher that I always seemed to encounter but never actually had a class with said that I reminded him of Paddington Bear. He told me to look it up and all I saw was a short ass bear in a poncho or whatever. He laughed because I thought he was insulting me. This is, I always wore clothes like Paddington around that time. I'm also pretty short. But he mainly called me Paddington because he thought our personalities were similar.
    I hated freshman year, but I miss that teacher

    I literally did the same thing you did, watched this movie after watching Seth Meyers and how he always makes Paddington 2 greatest movie in history comments.
    I came into it with no expectation. But knowing I had to see it. And leaving just so very happy. It genuinely got to me. Genuinely gave me real emotion.
    For a supposed kids movie, where you should know nothing bad can happen. When Paddington is on the bottom of the ocean floor and he can't escape and he just stares at his adopted mom and she stares back having this moment where he knows he's going to die. That hit me hard. In that moment I was watching it as a movie. Not as a kids movie.
    I had called before that the inmates would come back and help eventually, but that moment in that movie was just so genuine that it broke my heart. And the movie is chocked full with moments like that.
    Genuinely funny, (my favorite is the hard stare), and just really nice. Which like Ted Lasso is just so refreshing. We don't realize we need that in our lives until we watch something and can actually feel.l again. It's like a vindication of sorts.
    And the end made me cry. Literally cry. Because Paddington loved his Aunt, and would have done anything for her, to know he never took her for granted, always was there, and was able to give her the thing that many of us in our lives regret we couldn't do because we weren't nice enough, or we just thought we would have more time, or are doing the daily grind. It was such a genuine moment that made me cry. I could only think of my mom yah know?
    Just whoever doesn't like Paddington 2 (you don't have to think it's the greatest movie, I don't). Can just go f right off. I will never feel differently. You can't sit there and say, oh well I see where you could..." no, you're wrong. Your wrong if you don't like Paddington 2.

When I was a young kid, there was this drunk guy in the same theater as me and my family, idk what movie we were seeing but there was a Paddington trailer beforehand and the drunk dude was laughing at it loudly and i happened to laugh at it too. and for some reason this singular, very small, very meaningless event that no one other than me remembers, is the only memory my brain has retained of the first roughly 11 years of my life. I have no clue why this event both embarrassed me, and embarrassed me enough to the point of me remembering it so vividly 6 years down the line. Two things:
    1) The Home For Retired Bears is confirmed to not be an allegory for heaven at the end of the first Paddington movie. Although considering how you likely saw Paddington 2 without watching the first one, likely to judge the movie as its own thing rather than both as its own movie and how it stands in comparison to the first Paddington movie, it's not really that big of an issue.
    2) Jonathan, Paddington's human brother, has an interest in model trains primarily to use that knowledge to help Paddington in the climax of the movie. It probably could have been executed better, such as having the kid eventually decide to be true to himself and be proud of his interests rather than be ashamed of them at some point rather than just have him interested for the sake of having a Chekov's Gun.
    Still, lovely video you made, Mark! Keep up the good work!
