Monster House being the only CGI movie that came out that year that's aged well, mostly because they chose an art style that would be timeless (sculpted hair being the main attribute)

I like how Ted’s “love interest” is constantly ignored by him in favor of George. Like, he never rly gets with her, she’s just there for him to overlook. Man ain’t no simp
I don't really like the metaphore with wine, because sooner or later it will rot, and those movies will never rot, the thing with 2D animation is that it simply doesn't age, ever, in about 100 years this movie will still look fantastic like old Disney movies today, 2D animation is mostly affected by animators skills, if you're an absolute master at hand drawn animation then you don't really need an ungodly amounts of money to make something look appealing, all you basicly need is a stock pile of paper, pen and time, CGI requires ungodly amounts of money for rendering hardware alone, and still it rarely looks appealing and even when it does it's aging VERY fast, and it requires FAR less work and artistic skill
How do you feel about the second Spongebob movie, Sponge Out of Water? Do not hate on it just because of the CG animation portions, which is less than half the movie.
You just unlocked a memory I forgot I had. I remember watching an advertisement for this movie over & over because it was on a VHS recording of Blue's Clues, and MAN, the movie itself is incredible. Thank you for making this.
I remember the animated series that spawned from this. It was so charming, but also super weird because everyone treated George like he was a kid and not a monkey.
I think that's due to the fact that that's what the writers of the original books were going for anyway, ever wonder why George is a monkey without a tail? He's meant to be as close to a small child as possible while not being human at the same time. Why not just call him an ape instead, then? Monkeys are easier to remember.
Okay, hold up a sec, why is the art style and shading so gorgeous, I remember it looking good as a kid but I never realized how good it actually looked up until now. It almost has the same vibe as that one movie "Klaus" that came out on Netflix a few years back.
I heard Upside Down playing in the restaurant that I work at and I suddenly wanted to cry because of all of the good feelings I felt from watching this movie as a kid. Ah, how I long for the simpler days...

A personal favorite of mine, for some reason, are any of the episodes that take place primarily at night, like the one where George is scared of the shadows in the cave, the one where he and Hundley get lost on the city, or the camping trip (also with Hundley.)
*Fun Fact:* Curious George was originally debuted in another book by H.A. This movie was so ahead of it’s time, so far ahead for it’s own good unfortunately.
Thank u thank u thank u mark!!!! Curious George is very underrated!!! The Curious George series is legitimately godly. I remember an episode where George was in an airport screeching into a microphone and I thought it was the funniest stuff

@@JuneTimerTVSorry for commenting so late but It’s on Hulu the first movie and the animated series is on there unfortunately the spin-off movies like the Halloween and Christmas aren’t there but used to be
So I had forgotten that this movie existed, even though I had the DVD as a small kid. Found out they have it on streaming, and I haven’t stopped crying since I put it on. I miss when life was much simpler when this was released. I forgot how sweet and wholesome this movie was; there’s no gross out humor, no adult jokes, just straight good vibes for a little over an hour and a half. I think it holds up pretty well for being both a kids movie and for being released almost 20 years ago.
The best thing about this movie, the only thing that might feel different as an adult is the fact of how innocent and "baby-ish" it feels. This is one of the most safe, kid friendly movies out there, but that's not a bad thing. The fact that it's so family friendly and wholesome is what makes it great, and to this day I still love everything about it. The characters, the colorful world itself, the freaking music is top tier, even the show is wonderful. Curious George is just Great!
Curious George is such a wholesome movie!! And like you already said, the thing that really brings it all together is Jack Johnson's soundtrack for the film. The joke where Ted talks to the guy beeping in traffic and him saying “Well that’s not physical possible for me to do, so there!” Implying that the dude told him to go f himself is so funny I legitimately can’t believe that made it to the final movie

Bro yes I remember the episode where George was eating with his feet
Ohhh yes! I watched that series all the time when I was younger! I watched the movie, too, but the series is still more nostalgic for me as well.
Yeah I've seen that more than the movie
It was so good and for what
Lemme hear that Upside Down and all the nostalgia comes back to me again.
Im barely realizing that after all these years of I watching the movie that it was all the way to 2006. 2006! I thought it was made somewhere around 2010. The amount of detail and dedication they put into this movie is INSANE even by today standards! And the fact this movie didn’t get the appreciation it did back then saddens me a bit. This movie was so ahead of it’s time, so far ahead for it’s own good unfortunately.
Thank u thank u thank u mark!!!!
Curious George is very underrated!!!
Especially the story behind him
I would highly suggest watching the documentary
Monkey Business: The Adventures of Curious George's Creators
It talks about the Creators backgrounds and they came up with curious George and it’s done with animation in the curious George style!!!
Fun fact: curious George was created in France
Yez
@@Lemur08 Is that actually true?
@@IcyDiamond yup
The creators were living in France when the German invaded so they had to bike out
The Documentary explains everything in great detail
And is done in animation
@@milktea6676 That is incredibly interesting ngl
I can never ever get Jack Johnson's upside down out of my head I just love this movie so much ^-^
5:01 Thanks for the cameo Mark!
Curious george us a movie that just faded from all our memories but came back when we needed him most
There was also a curious George animated series that came out about the same time that this movie did on PBS. Not sure if you would remember it as PBS is an American thing but it might be worth a look
I remember that, it aired here in Britain as well on Mini Citv... in the short time that was a thing
@@LexVanguard2004 Oh god you’ve just unlocked freaking memories
@@IMayBeSlightlyAutism Ikr, watching Sooty, Cat in the hat and Curious George in the mornings was so sick
The Curious George series is legitimately godly. I remember an episode where George was in an airport screeching into a microphone and I thought it was the funniest stuff
Does Anybody remember word-girl?? ⭐
I adored this movie so much when I was younger and still think about it from time to time. With little siblings we would always watch the PBS kids show too. It just became one of those nostalgic pieces of media that you didn't realize how much you loved until you see it pop up again.
Finally Someone Talks about this Movie
This movie was my Fucking Childhood so this made me happy to see
SAME
The TV show was part of my childhood (I think it only aired in UK though)
@@sam4gaming135 it aired in the US and a few other countries too I'm pretty sure, it was great :]
@@sam4gaming135 Yeah I think it did only air in the UK since I'm from America and I didn't even know that exsisted until now
@@ConnorDrawss just like the peanuts movie scoob and spider man into the spider vars
holy shit the animation in this movie is amazing by todays standards idk why people underestimated it at the time of its release
This movie is a childhood treasure, I loved it and still loved it, especially the music and the fact that LS Mark reviewed it positively shows how good it is :)
glad i’m not the only one who remembers this masterpiece
Generation-defining movie. Made my childhood and I still listen to Jack Johnson's songs even now
I’m gonna watch this movie again, I loved Curious George from the books, to the Cartoon, and finally the movie. The animation was bright but wasn’t an eyesore, it was heart warming with it’s story as well, and treated the material with respect. Holy shit this movie’s from 2006 I feel old.
Where can I watch the movie? I’m dying to knowww
@@JuneTimerTVSorry for commenting so late but It’s on Hulu the first movie and the animated series is on there unfortunately the spin-off movies like the Halloween and Christmas aren’t there but used to be
The "Curious George smokes a joint" part made me laugh.
I would love to smoke a joint with curious George.
In the book, there was a part where George smokes a cigar.
@@Wina_Wina doesn't he also get a hold of Ted's pipe and accidentally makes himself nauseous smoking it?
@@cyclops8238 Yes.
So glad somebody finally addresses this movie, I always thought it was a fever dream till now
So I had forgotten that this movie existed, even though I had the DVD as a small kid.
Curious George movie: Exists
Mark: M A S T E R P I E C E
Well, it IS a masterpiece
@@Dzanimations fair enough
On a sidenote, I just want to say that I had a major crush on the Man in the Yellow Hat when I was a kid.
Just for this, you're now my favorite animation critic.
I even loved the PBS kids show as a kid. But now I just watch the movie because its much better, and I'm 18.
I do miss this art style. 3D animation is great and all but this was perfect.
Upside down is still a banger to this day
Hell yeah
This is pretty much the only piece of Curious George content I remember fondly! How did this movie turn out so good?!? It’s a Curious George Movie!
@@kylee6802 Yeah, which is kinda weird. Idk, maybe this movie is in its own continuity separate from the show!
Curious George is such a wholesome movie!! And like you already said, the thing that really brings it all together is Jack Johnson's soundtrack for the film. They couldn't have picked a better man for the job. Funny thing is I actually discovered Curious George because I was a really big fan of Jack Johnson at that time!
I love the character designs in this over the actual books oddly enough. Those beady eyes don't do it for me.
i watched the show as a kid but watched this movie with my nephew alot, i tell you it never gets old for me
I’m 18 years old and I’ve seen this movie idek how many times but I’ll happily watch it again and again. I’ve watched it so much in the past year alone bc I simp for ted ngl💀
When I was younger, I watched the movie. I made a promise to never watch it again after seeing George being taken away. I was so heartbroken by him being sent away, and I haven't watched it sense
My childhood film right here, so glad to see it's getting more recognition
Mark when he says Mitchells vs Machines was meh: *a n g e r*
Mark when he says Curious George is good: *f o r g i v*
Lol
Curious George is way way better than the Mitchells anyway
Monke: good
Human:ok
I loved Curious George when I was a kid. I still can't forgive my parents for making me go to a family event when they were gonna show the movie on TV. This was close to 15 years ago, that's how much I loved the show. Watching this video made me more upset that I didn't see it so long ago.
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A REVIEW IN THIS MOVIE FOR 15 YEARS! and finally, somebody actually reviewed it, thank you mark, thank you!
I still love Curious George. They say it's a kids show, but it's better than most "adult" shows out there
You’d don’t like adult shows?
Tbh yeah. I remember watching curious george all the time when I was younger. I love that show so much.
Someone finally said it, I’ve literally waited years for a big TH-camr to cover this movie
Holy Shit I forgot about this underrated masterpiece, Now i'm Sad rewatching it.
The joke where Ted talks to the guy beeping in traffic and him saying “Well that’s not physical possible for me to do, so there!” Implying that the dude told him to go f himself is so funny I legitimately can’t believe that made it to the final movie
This movie is so good. But I never realize how beautiful the animation is. I wish to see more 2D animation movie
Yee but the lighting should be toned down just a bit but still sooooooooooo pretty
Honestly I really liked this movie. I think it had a lot of heart, some good comedy, and some gorgeous 2d animation.
