  • This is how to tie a crowned Mathew Walker. I actually find it easier to tie than a regular Matthew Walker especially in larger pieces. I use this as the end knot in a cat of nine tails. It has a small mouth which makes a very neat exit for the tails. You can find it in Ashley as #704
Hope this is of some use, please let me know. If you like my video please share and like, It all helps.
All the cord I use in my videos is made by me on my own rope walk. I sell cord in a range of colours through my shop, here's the link.

Hope you find my video useful. If so please consider supporting my endeavours by checking out my store. I have a small selection of hand made hard laid cord for sale. Traditional hard laid cord is the perfect cord for this style of decorative knotting. If you've not used it, it will change your knotting forever.

Your work is very interesting. If I may ask, how might the finished knot that you ended with where the starting crown was, could you not tie the Matthew Walker and then tie a wall knot?

The way the two parts of the knot are tied turn it into a single integrated knot. Just like a crown + wall make a manrope. Just to check though I just tied a MW and topped it with a wall and the the MW looked fine the wall on top just looked like a wall waiting for something else to happen to it. Give it a go you'll see what I mean.

What’s the name of the tool you are using??

It’s made by Mikko Snellman. He calls it a “spid” because it’s a cross between a fid and a Marline spike. You can order them from him
