  • In this tutorial we tie the multi-strand Matthew Walker knot. Learning how to tie the Matthew Walker knot is just the start. The big challenge is tightening it properly.
All in all, taking a few minutes to practice this knot is time well spent, since this knot is not only beautiful, but comes in really handy for finishing braids, transitioning into different styles of braiding.

I've watched no less than 6 videos on this and yours is the only one that actually got me to tie it successfully

Lots of vids on knots. Yours are the best. You speak. No background noise (called music by some) Thank you for all the work you do; I appreciate you.

I can't tell you how many times I have watched you video, "Dressing the Matthew Walker Knot", lol. I am very new to all this. I marvel at how uniform, and tidy your knots are. The MWK in the previous video I mentioned is my "gold standard". I have not made one yet that has that level of perfection. I'm determined to keep working towards the beautiful knot you made in that video.
Both my husband and I (we are both in our 60's) are watching your videos and practicing away.
    Thank you!

      Hi!
Thank you for such a nice comment! The Matthew Walker was quite an interesting one to learn. It took me years to figure it out, tying it repeatedly with mixed results. After observing the structure of the knot I found what actually makes it look like it should, as shown in the "dressing" video.
Keep at it, the Matthew Walker knot is a very handy, formidable knot. One of the most secure finishing knots and quite the looker!

I really struggle dressing this knot. It would be beneficial to use different coloured braid so I can see EXACTLY where each braid is supposed to go.

That last step is what gets me. Adjusting the cords on the left to the cords on the right?

Best MWK tutorial by far! I have one question though. Can you give me any tips on how best to get the strands neatly lined up when transitioning from a braid into the knot?
Im making a dog lead and started with a small section of 4-strand round braid in the centre, folded it over to form a bight for the spring clip, into an 8-strand MWK, but it comes out a little messy because the 8 strands that come out of the braid dont line up neatly like they would when tying the knot on its own. Any tips for that?
    Thanks again from Australia 🤙

That is such a cool knot. I've done it before, but it always fascinates me.

I like your videos. You should use different colored cords for this knot, I think.

How do you make it look so easy? 🤔

So can you just cut the extra off the top and burn the ends with a lighter? Dip in epoxy to seal it? How do you finish the knot ?

      Hey!
The knot is used in many ways. If you are using it as a stopper/terminal knot then you can just snip the ends and melt them. The knot is very stable and not prone to untying.

would have been easier to follow along had you used different colors for the paracords….
