    If you watch the rack outfitters review, they show how you can change the placement of the rear wheel strap

    I watch your video everytime I put on the extension. It's a PITA every time and I'm not sure I could do it without this video. It wouldn't be so bad if I took the extension off and on regularly, but I do it so infrequently it's as if I have to learn it all over again each time.

    You can remove & readjust the tire strap. More than enough play for the fat tires. Toss the bungy cords 👍

    What do you think about the Thule Apex XT that accommodates 5 bikes. It's a hanging mechanism. I was wondering if you've tried that one.

    • @FoCoFlowShow
      @FoCoFlowShow  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had an older 4 bike version of that Thule and it does the job for families with a few various size bikes. However, when you're trying to put 5 full size MTBs on a rack, its almost impossible to prevent them from rubbing frames, scratching pedals, etc. I haven't used this in particular, but that would be my concern for high end, expensive MTBs, especially those with full suspension. On the other hand, a family of 5 with a few kids bikes might find this is exactly what they need.

    Just found one of these at a garage sell but they didn't come with lock cylinders for the hitch knob and cable lock. I cant seem to find the part number for them. Do you know it?

    • @FoCoFlowShow
      @FoCoFlowShow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t but email Thule - they helped me order a back up lever handle and had the part numbers

  • @itsmenohandle
    @itsmenohandle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey brother out of curiosity, I noticed it has the the J pin hook on there and the handle for tightening the wedge inside of the hitch, but is there another threaded hole for a the Thule bolt? And does the front tire tray have a strap for it? I’m paranoid like that!Thanks in advance. 👍

    • @FoCoFlowShow
      @FoCoFlowShow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bolt doesnt thread - it’s just the wedged pressure plate and the little hook that holds the hitch into the receiver - there’s a little bit of play while driving that is unnerving but I’m still running this same rack for over a year and no issues ...
      No strap for the front tire other than the lock cable that comes out of the top of the tire clamp but that ratchet clamp is rock solid - no worries there

  • @anthonybuttofucco7973
    @anthonybuttofucco7973 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You need to remove the strap and then enter it through the back it will be plenty long enough even for a 5 inch tire. there are videos showing you how to change the strap configuration, it takes 30 seconds.

    This rack comes with high reviews but attaching the extra 2 carrier seems horrible. Is it as bad as it looks. Are we talking an hour to put it on?

    • @FoCoFlowShow
      @FoCoFlowShow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now that I’ve done it once I could knock it out in 30 mins from full disassembly... it IS big and a bit heavy but that also makes it sturdy and bomb proof which I like

    If you watch the e-trailer review of the rack you can learn how the rear strap works, probably in the manual too. You pull the strap out and feed it in a different slot for Fat tires.

    How hard is it to remove this extension and return to a 2 bike carrier?

    • @FoCoFlowShow

      It’s doable but requires removing 4 big bolts and the set screw so it isn’t something I do often

    • @willchart1
      @willchart1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FoCoFlowShow That’s what I was afraid of. I’ll only need it as a 4 bike carrier once in a great while. But I’ll use it as a 1-2 bike carrier all the time.

    • @FoCoFlowShow
      @FoCoFlowShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @willchart1
      @willchart1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@FoCoFlowShow Yeah that won’t work for me. I ride more often by myself than with my family. Most of the trails around me are too technical for my wife and kids to ride. Great video. Only criticism is the continuous use of the term pushing the set screw in/out. You aren't "pushing" anything...you are screwing/turning the set screw. More importantly it appears you turn clockwise to disengage the screw and counter-clockwise to engage the set screw. Not trying to be nitpicky, but "pushing" is not really accurate/informative. Thanks for mentioning the lube, that will definitely save some time and energy!

      Fair point and thanks for the feedback - appreciate you watching!

    • @nothinbutnetz
      @nothinbutnetz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just to clarify upon completing the install... the set screw is actually threaded normally (counter-clockwise to loosen and remove and clockwise to tighten and install).

    I finally understand why we don't have this style of racks in eu, even discounting the receiver hitch, our cars and roads are just too small 😅 I think a vehicle with air ride could handle a rack this big, bit it's still ridiculously long, half the vehicle's length and almost 2x longer than a 4 bike eu style rack 😅

    • @FoCoFlowShow

      @FoCoFlowShow what are your thoughts on the Thule vs a 4 bike rack from Kyber Bike Racks which is vertical? I have the Thule T2 for two bikes but 4 looks a lot longer and with 4 bikes I'm worried my signal lights will be impossible to see. Thx

    love your video sir specially your son ripping up those trails, thumbs up! How old is he? My son is 6yrs old and I just bought his very first mtb. A trek 20" wheels with 6 speed, hoping to take him to the trails in the Toronto area once the trails are good to go.
    I bought the same rack last month and all I can say it's awesome coming from the T2 Classic. I can finally open the back door of my van and installing it is way easier. It's a bit heavy but my T2 Pro XTR came with 2 wheels which is a big help in carrying the rack.
    Pls check my video for the quick glance of this awesome rack. We have 2 TREK Farleys, so this rack is perfect for us. Highly recommended. th-cam.com/video/CqtWuFgw9sg/w-d-xo.html
