Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Hitch Rack Installation and Review | Subaru Recommended
Welcome to our detailed review and installation guide for the Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Hitch Rack (Part Number: 9025XT). This hitch-based bike rack is highly recommended by Subaru on their site and offers a secure and easy way to transport up to four bikes.
    Unboxing and Installation:
🚲When you first open the box, you will find the hitch mechanism and base of the Apex.
🚲To install, pull back the lever and insert the hitch into your vehicle's receiver.
🚲Secure it with the two screws provided, ensuring they are threaded properly.
Note: Once the hitch mechanism is separated from the base, it stays locked and forms a 90° angle.
    Attaching to Your Subaru:
🚲Remove the cap from your Subaru's 2-inch receiver. No adapter needed for a 2-inch receiver.
🚲Insert the hitch, listen for the click, and then tighten to reduce wobble. Use the flat base key for the locking cylinder, inserting it into the hitch.
🚲Two locking cylinders are included: one for the top and one for the bottom of the hitch.
🚲Tighten the hitch firmly to minimize movement. You may need assistance to push the hitch in while tightening.
    Securing Your Bikes:
🚲Unfold the hitch and start loading your bikes. Ensure the front tire is attached and secure the bike frames with the included straps.
🚲Velcro straps for additional stability can be useful for the front wheels.
🚲Use the built-in lock to secure the bikes and prevent theft. Insert the cylinder key and tighten it.
    Thule Frame Adapter (982XT):
🚲Great for women's bikes. Easy to use, just open, hook onto the bike neck, and place it on the rack.
🚲Invert each bike so the front wheels alternate directions.
🚲Heaviest bike closest to the car, lighter bikes in front.
    Accessing Your Trunk:
🚲Pull down the lever to fold out the mechanism and open your trunk.
Note: Trunk access is not possible with bikes loaded.

Nice video... For those interested, I've recently purchased this item. Great quality and build and I would recommend it. However, I don't like the designs of the straps. Putting them in and removing the straps can be troublesome. I also don't like that there isn't padding between the bars to keep the undercarriage of your bike frame from becoming scratched while putting it on and taking it off.

Padding between the bars would be a plus. I didn't think about the scratches on the frame after repeated use. I do wonder how long the straps will last with all the tightening and loosening over time. Thule seems to have a great warranty for this product, which I anticipate will help if the straps break. I plan on taking a long road trip at the end of July. I'm impressed with the weight and robustness of the rack.
      Great points!

Just got mine today and tried it. It is well made although uselessly heavy (like anything from Thule). The only thing I don't like about this rack the hook that goes into the hitch side hole doesn't lock when you tighten the knob. I recall other Thule bike hitch rack with the same mechanism had that hook locked with the rest.

Good points. The hook should lock or click into place, which would provide peace of mind when installing. The hitch is heavy, but I do feel it gets the job done for the heavier bikes.

It came like that, new in the box. It doesn't look as bad as it does in that moment.

@@alexaevans1387 the rack cost a lot I guess. Thule usually are $$$$. I would want all metal sealed and no easy way for things to rust or expose a weak point for thief's to cut and run off with your shiny bikes lol.

So right off the bat, where did those first screws come from. I mean I feel like you skip so much it’s like what’s the point?

Both screws are included in the packaging. Unit in box is almost complete. Two screws and you're almost ready to go. Hope this helps.
