Hello friends! Thought I'd make a video on a material function/technique I use alllllll the time and I know is super common in product viz/design work. I'll go over how to make a simple gradient material function so that you can plug into any material you have. You can also use this gradient as a mask to transition between two textures. One thing I did forget to cover in the video is have the gradient stick to your objects rotation - It's a simple tweak and I have a screenshot below of the node setup. Essentially, all you need to do is add a Transform Position node after the Absolute World Position and the Object Position nodes and before both Mask nodes. Set the Source to "Absolute World Space" and the Destination to "Local Space" on both nodes and that should be it! Hope this was helpful and can't wait to see you guys in the next one ✌🏽

Also if you want the gradient to stick to your object when rotating, check the description! It's super simple, soz should've added in the video but only remembered afterwards 😅

Quick tip; right click on your inputs to any nodes and choose promote to parameter so you don't have to find the node. Much quicker :)

This is a great tutorial and it helped me a lot. Just a bit of feedback:
I would really like to further understand each and every step you took so further explanations would be great. I would also like to know how I can get different gradient options in terms of circular, 3 different colors...etc

Your’re my new favorite unreal engine youtuber. Not a c4d user but your last unreal engine videos were really cool and useful

Ahhh thank you so much! Yeah to be honest I'm trying to also make tutorials where it's not dependent on what 3d modelling software you use.

Hahahahahahahaha honestly a true blunder.....usually I'd re-record but I did that whole thing in one take so I decided to leave it in 😅

Thanks so much for this tutorial. Been bugging me for months. Crazy how we can't just have a simple ramp node...

Mate tell me about it....Can't believe I felt the need to make a tutorial on a simple gradient hahaha 🤣

5.4 Motion Design material designers come with gradients, which seem to be directly integrated with traditional materials

Is there a way to add more colours? Say 4?

Great tutorial mate! Subscribed! I have been playing around 5.4 after watching your tutorials and it's quite fun. However I ran into a problem when trying to clone a nanite mesh, it will completely ignore the source object as nanite or spawn some low poly proxies instead :( Do you have any idea how to enable this?
