  • Unreal engine is a collection of developer tools for building interactive 3D games, simulations, and visualizations. It provides a powerful visual editor and scripting language called blueprint to simplify the game dev workflow.

The thing I love most about Unreal Engine is how easy modding games with it is since you can use tools to looks into the packaged files of the game, then reference those in the editor and package the mod to use with UML.

    • @kishirisu1268

Easy modding? Open Nexusmods, and count mods for Skyrim and mods for any UE game, Hogwarts Legacy for example. All mods for UE are cosmetics. Nothing changed on gameplay level, impossible to change animations, or add new character bodies. And you call it EASY MODDING?
Also, you say "use tools to look into packages", so you hack encrypted game packs? Did you READ license agreement? Are you sure it is LEGAL to break encryption of cooked content?

Being able to cover Unreal in 100 seconds is totally Unreal...!!
On the serious note Unreal is massive piece of software. Taming it fully is quite a task. It's not something one can learn over weekend(proper learning). Each of the sub systems of Unreal is worth studying even if you don't plan to do any Game developments. If you are in College and you think u know C++...give a shot to Unreal C++. All of sudden the weird macros and odd syntaxes will feel like u don't know anything about C++. However, it has a purpose for such a design. Compiling Unreal on ur machine will give ur PC run for its money.

@@FireFox64000000 I havent gotten started actually building anything just yet but I am exited to start learning and using UE5, Blueprints in particular exites me, When I was with unity I fumbled about with Bolt/Unity Visual Scripting but that was an addon that later got integrated unlike Blueprints. Also those new procedural content generation tools look very fun!
