  • Nobody wants a car that'll leave them stranded at the side of the road, so it's always important to know which car brands make the models that are least likely to let you down. JD Power surveyed 12,000 drivers with cars registered between 2014 and 2016 to compile its 2017 UK Vehicle Depedablility Study. I take a look at the results in detail, and highlight the best cars in each class.

      @davithdevries6774 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

MrRandomname1011 that's true, this kind of survey has many confounders. It's practically impossible Skoda scores so much higher than VW as all their cars share 90% with their VW sisters (manly except bodywork and some interior trim). But it is possible Skoda owners just don't report (simple) faults that often compared to VW owners, who really want their pricy new Golf to be perfect. Skoda owners just want their cars to work. The reverse is true for Audi variants, which are posh consumers who payed a 5000€ premium for their Golf to be fitted with an A3 jacket, so it must be pristine. 🌟 and they probably have more options fitted to it on average, which can fail. It can't objectively be 50% more unreliable, because Audi's quality control is equal if not better than VW's. That said, Volvo's second place is quite an achievement as a premium brand.

I was going write this comment, but I cba. The most reliable cars are cheap and the people don't have as high an expectation, the more expensive cars are expected to be better so every fault that the owner notices is a problem and they expect it to work. These surveys aren't accurate. The best way to do it is ask garages to give them their list of cars they saw the most in the list 12 months.

They have a long history of doing that right, unfortunately blurred by the massive mismanagement of communism for fourty years. And they do also use the latest Volkswagen tech. The story that they only use older tech is not true.

Yeah hyundai is more reliable than bmw or audi because of tech or lack of tech on hyundai. Just think how many problems smartphones have compared to feature phones or dumb phones, same theory applies for cars too. Adaptive suspention,ABS,EBD,Brake assist, traction controll,Stablity controll, Adaptive cruise controll, all wheel drive with torque vectoring, touch infotainment, digital cluster, dual clutch amt, Surround camera, parking sensor, adaptive headlamps, radars. 😇😇😇😇😇 Insane number of tech on premium cars increases possibility of failures too.

It really depends what kind of faults. In my life I bought 3 brand new cars; Peugeot, Hyudai and Renault. Had 0 problems with Peugeot. The Renault gave me around 5 faults, all of them connected with the seats, and all of them were resolved in one visit to the service. And Hyundai gave me just 1 fault, after 1 year basically one of the cylinders stopped working and the engine had to be replaced.

Relay tray suffered water ingress, an idler pulley made a bid for freedom and the inlet manifold / swirl flaps got gummed up needing cleaning. These have been easily diagnosed and easy to fix, but not neccesarily cheap. My 2005 honda civic has been very reliable, the only issue ive had is a dirty idle control valve. Easy job to fix. Both cars are around 100,000 miles, with regular servicing (bmw recently had the auto trans service as well, but that was very overdue - ZF state 80,000 miles maximum...bmw lie through their teeth and say never at all!).

Important to note is that warranty like Kia offers is 7 years BUT that warranty is CONDITIONAL. Meaning you have to get checkups at certain mileages. I'm guessing not everyone does that with other brands because the usual warranty period is around 2 to 4 years and may not always have those type of conditions that Kia has. Not getting usual checkups in time increases chances of getting problems with your car.

I owned two Audi's and I can confirm that they are not very reliable.
2012 Audi A1: Wipers stopped working, AC worked pretty bad even after I went several times to the workshop, Infotainment failures, front right xenon had to replaced twice in a year.
2013 Audi A4: Several failures and alarms popped up within one year on the bord computer which forced me always to the workshop.
After a year and a half I gave the car back and bought a new 2014 RR Evoque which I'm still driving. So far I really never had a single issue in three years (Maintenance done regulary, approx 25k-30k km/year). I'm really surprised to see Land Rover scoring that bad on this review. I hope my Evoque will continue as reliable as it was so far. Greetings from Switzerland.

Bm's are troublesome bro. You always need extra cash for various sensors. But as long as you've got some power notes to spare, then these are great cars.

BMW and Range Rover have the least reliable engines I ever seen. I mean, if the engine breaks, your car is a POS. It is inadmissible to have engine faults after 100 years of doing this shit.

This report didn’t include the new XC90 data - which so far isn’t’ looking good. I recently went to test drive one and although it is a well designed, spacious and comfortable car.... the Infotainment system crashed three time within 1hour. The engine choice is well, none. A 2.0l four cylinder engine in a car of it’s class is not good - even if you opt for the T8 version.

I don’t know, I’ve been issue free, minus one poor computer update that was quickly updated again with my wife’s 2016 Volvo XC90. But got rid of my Tesla s p90d for too many issues and needing to replace the whole computer after 3 months. Than every time it rained a wet trunk, started to smell of mold, plus all those rattling noises. Tesla deserves to be on the worst list especially with the X now on top of the S.

The Toyota Prius is extremely reliable. I own 3 vehicles, 2011 Prius, 1998 Amigo and 1988 RX-7 turbo. I use some awesome car management software www.automotivewolf.com to monitor the maintenance schedules and expenses on all three so all the car maintenance is always up to date. This software calculates how much it costs to own and operate the vehicle per year, per mile etc. incorporating all the maintenance and repairs, fuel economy costs. My Prius has over 300,000 miles and has never needed a repair with a cost of $.05 per mile. The Amigo blows head gaskets repeatedly and currently is at $1.26 per mile. The RX-7 has needed multiple major repairs and gobbles up gas and costs $2.47 per mile to operate.

Audi and BMW actually had many recalls the last years, which places them down in this table. However, other manufacturers wouldnt even make these recalls, and when it comes to reliability, many 100t km tests (and my experience) indicate that they are at minimum top 10.

This shows that the brands are not the issue but the actual build locations are more important - the engineering for Seat, Skoda, VW, and Audi is almost identical, as is Kia and Hyundai, Citroen and Peugeot, BMW and Mini, etc.

The chap who services my vehicles and virtually all makes, reckons that
any Japanese built car is more reliable than any German built car. The Germans
tend to use a lot more plastic parts instead of metal.
At the moment I run a BMax and a Lexus hybrid. Both very reliable, although
initially the BMax range had auto clutch problems and failing heated windscreens.
Both issues which were fixed under warranty. Overall though, I don't believe a
    word of these surveys.
