You're welcome. Glad you enjoy watching. I did do what I said in the deer camp video, I did order that scope just as soon as I got home that Saturday. By Tuesday I had the scope. Thaks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Definitely a huge peace of mind going forward having all your second thoughts gone on scope adjustments!!! I myself try to keep the same scopes on all my gear, we all have a few favorites and it makes shooting so much easier being comfortable with your optics when it counts.
You are right, Matt, it definitely brings peace of mind knowing your scope is dialed in. This scope here, I have thought several times about buying several of them to replace the scopes that I have on some of my other rifles. Just can't bring myself to do it. But who knows I might one day. Now to get out and get this dial in. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Sir ive watched you guys for years and i really like what you guys do showing the real side of hunting in the mountains and camping , That Bushnell Banner scope you putting on is one of the best scopes for the money you can use in my opinion , Ive use them on several different rifles and never had an issue at all and they are great at low light as well . thank you again for your videos.
Thank you, David, really appreciate the comment. I think so myself, I have this same scope on my 700 BDL 30-06 that I bought years ago and it’s still going strong! I could pull that rifle out right now, setup a target at 100 yards and hit my mark. I don't see a need in spending hundreds upon hundreds of dollars for a scope. I really like the reticle crosshairs in this scope. Helps the old eyes acquire those crosshairs better. Again, appreciate the comment about our videos, thank you for watching and commenting. Juddie
@ My family has hunted Virginia mountains for over 60 years in the same camping spot , it’s our family tradition that started with my grandfather and his friends and has never stopped , I’ve learned that it’s about family and friends first then if you dam lucky about the kill . When I watch you and your son it’s identical to what are hunts are like , well take care sir thanks for responding.
Totally agree, Richard. This brand has already proven itself to me, since I have the same one on my 700 BDL 30-06 for years now, and it still holding zero. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Yes indeed, Marty. We plan on the drive home from camp. LOL This next season Jerod nor I will have to worry about scope issues. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
I had good luck many years ago with the bushnell banner scopes. The only time I had issues is if I put them on heavy recoiling rifles like my 300 win. Now a days i mostly use vortex optics. Their warranty is solid. If you run over the scope with your truck they will warranty it. Good luck with your new glass!
Yep, to much recoil on a budget scope can start causing issues. I remember my father-in-law had a Tasco, now this was back in the early 80's, and I don't consider 30-06 that brutal for recoil, but his rifle was zero'd. A year later we went to the range to check it, and after 3 shots, the next shots started going every where. We couldn't get it back to zero. Took the scope off and closely looking through at the sky we saw where one of the crosshairs had broke. I have had good luck with the Bushnell Banner Circle X that is on my 700 BDL 30-06, and I really like the crosshair setup in that scope. Jerod is looking into a Vortex, but not sure what he is going to get. I told him to stick with simplicity, don't go for anything that would require a battery. After the issues I had with the GoPro's in the cold, I told him you don't need a scope that uses a battery for a particular feature. Don't want something that could fail in the cold temperatures. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
You are welcome. Yes, I have the exact scope on my 700 BDL 30-06, it has been on there since I bought the 700 years ago. I know the scope and I like the crosshairs on the scope. I will get it zero'd and hopefully this next season, we have better luck than we did this season. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
the distances you guys hunt the new scope will work great here in eastern nc we make 500 yd shots frequently so we typically use burris eleminator scopes with range finding and bullet drop built in them
That's right, where we hunt, either the lease we are on or the National Forest, the longest range possible would maybe be 200 yards at most. I have been hunting for 40+ years, and some of my Remingtons, the 742 BDL and 760 BDL have the old Tasco scopes on them and they do very well. Of course, this is the Tasco of ole and were better quality. My 700 BDL has this Bushnell Banner Circle X on it, it was on it when I bought the rifle years ago. It is still holding zero, so when I got home from camp, that is what I ordered to put on the HOWA. I just don't know why Nikko Stirling didn't at least put a locking ring or something to lock the turret when it was set. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
As always another great video Juddie, the Bushnell Banner is a great scope for the money has great early and late clarity they can say what they want for the mountains of West Virginia or up here in the Pa woods where I hunt that scope will hold up just fine I have several set ups using Banners Happy New Year and safe travels my friend
Thank you, John!! I have this same scope on my Remington 700 BDL 30-06, it was on the rifle when I bought it years ago. It still holds zero, and as I have mentioned, I love the Circle X crosshairs on this scope. I have said in a few comment replies I did, Jerod and I aren't long range shooters, and the deer we hunt, well you are lucky if you see a deer at 200 yards not to mention get a good clear shot at one at that range. Most are within 200 yards or less. Thank you for watching and commenting, John, and Happy New Year to you and your family. Juddie
I have two Bushnell Banner scopes and have never had any issues. Aiden uses one on his 243 and it hasn't had to be adjusted in years and I have one on my 30.06. Enjoyed the video. Thanks
Keith, this is the second one I have. The first one is on my 700 BDL 30-06, it was on the rifle when I bought it years ago. I got it zero'd and to this day it still holding that zero. I love the crosshairs on this scope, and putting this on the HOWA is going to make life so much easier. No more worrying if the turret is going to get turned in one direction or the other, or whether that walk up the mountain and having it across my shoulder rubbing on the backpack has caused it to move a full rotation or what. Don't need to have all that running through my mind when I am hunting. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Enjoyed watching. Anymore it seems like everyone has an opinion on what a person chooses to use. Im like you i go with what i like and can afford. Greag video buddy thanks for sharing
I am glad you enjoyed the video, Steve. Yes, everyone has their opinions on what you should hunt with, that your not a real hunter unless you use this or that. I think everyone should do what works for them, and what they like and can afford. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Great video Juddie. We're alot alike as that's the same thing I would have done when I got home is order a new scope. You definitely go with what you've had good luck and has been proven. It doesn't matter what people say you go with what you know. My first scope was a Bushnell Sportview 3-9 on my Marlin 336 and it was an absolute tack driver. I then put that scope on my 30-06 and had the same results till eventually the recoil of my 30-06 ruined it. I switched to a Leupold VX2 3-9x50 and have had had that scope on that rifle for 30 years and still is a tack driver. My Marlin 336 now has a Bushnell Trophy on it and shoots great also
You’re right about going with what you know! I have been hunting for over 40 years and I have had many different brands of scopes, don't get me wrong, I haven't ever owned a $500 to $1000 scope. I have hunted with Tasco 3-9x40 scopes of ole, that is what is still on my 742 BDL and my 760BDL, and they have never failed me. The 700 BDL when I bought it years ago had the Bushnell Banner Circle X on it and I fell in love with the crosshairs on that scope. We aren't long range shooters, heck around hear you are lucky if you can get a 200 yard shot. Like you said, you go with what you know. To many people put to much into hunting, they think you have to have the most expensive rifle, the most expensive scope, and hunting clothes, all these gadgets and stuff. Heck when I started hunting it was a pair of blue jeans, a military coat, a orange vest and my first rifle was a WWII German Mauser, all original and chambered in 7x57 Mauser. The only thing on that rifle that wasn't original was the previous owner had put a Lyman peep site on it. I got my first deer with that rifle, a nice 6 point buck. If it works use it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Dennis, my mind was made up!! LOL Just as soon as I got out of the shower, I sat down in the recliner and ordered the scope. I know this scope well, it is the exact scope I have on my 700 BDL 30-06. It has always held zero, and it doesn't break the bank to order one. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
So glad you guys are switching out! I was so frustrated with Jerrod Missing those deer this year! For the type of hunting you guys are doing, a simple scope of 2x7 to 3x9 works just great! Pretty rough season for you guys, hopefully next year will be better!
Yes, Chris, we am hoping it will be better next year. Those scopes that came on those rifles are more of a target/range scope. I have checked and rechecked to see if there was a way to lock the turret, but no. I know I have looked at other scopes, and they either have a locking ring, a cap, or once set push down on the turret to lock it, this one has nothing. Now with this scope, once set, put the covers on, and forget it. Don't have to worry about. Of course, we will make sure this next year, even with the new scopes, to make sure we shoot them once we get to camp just to verify they are still on. We have done that every year, in fact in the videos of 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023, I think there are clips of us checking our rifles. It is something we do every year, except this year, and it was just because of all the issues with the camper and things we still had to do, time got away from us. And Jerod paid the penalty for it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Hell I think it’s a good looking scope. If you like it and it works 👍. Juddie im really thinking TH-cam is slowly becoming the out door channel with all the “experts “
I think it’s a good looking scope too, glad you like it, Brian. I really like the crosshairs in this scope. It is the same scope I have on my 700 BDL 30-06 that I have owned for years. It still holding zero!! Oh, I know what you mean, Brian, there are a lot of TH-camr's who are trying to make their videos look like hunts you would see on the Outdoor Channel. That is why Jerod and I will keep doing ours the way we do it. We want people to see real hunting, the struggles you have to go through, the ups and the downs, the hits (if we can ever capture them) and the misses. There is more to hunting than always showing the killing of a deer. There is so much more. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
I had an issue with a Nikon. I contacted the company, and after many weeks of hassle, they finally replaced it. Sometimes, you get what you paid for, and sometimes you dont.
Yes, you never know how good the customer service will be from a company, until you need it. It used to be, many, many years ago, if you had an issue with the company, you contacted them, shipped it to them and they either repaired it or replaced it. No questions asked and no receipt needed. Now there is a ton of red tape, and you better have the original receipt. I have this same scope on my Remington 700 BDL 30-06 that I bought years ago, and to this day that scope is still performing fine, and is holding zero. This scope should do well for me. I would buy 4 or 5 of them and replace the scopes that I have on other rifles, but those scopes, different brand are doing just as well and have been for over 40 years. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
John, it is the best thing for us. The Nikko Stirling is a nice scope with only one flaw that I see, and that is you can't lock that turret down. I have looked at a lot of other scopes with exposed turrets lately, and they either have a locking ring, a cap, or something to lock that turret once set. I have checked and checked to see if I was missing something on that scope for locking the turret. There is no way to lock it. I don't want to hunt with it knowing that I have to always check and worry if the turret move when I was walking that mile up the mountain or when I pulled it from the case. Even if we had checked zero Saturday or Sunday, the going in and out of the case, carrying it on our shoulder, brushing up against laurel or brush could cause it to me, and continue to move every time it came into contact with something. Now, with this Bushnell Banner, I can set it, put the cap on and not worry. Yes, still need to check before hunting that it is holding zero, but I have the same scope on my 700 BDL 30-06, it has been on there since I bought the rifle years ago, and it is still holding zero. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Juddie I would have done the same thing on changing out scopes!! Bushnell is a good scope I have many rifles with that brand of scope heck some of my rifles 40-50 years old still holds zero… Enjoyed video!!!
Todd, that was the first thing after getting home, getting a shower and grabbing the computer. The only thing on that rifle that wasn't original was the previous owner had put a Lyman peep site on it. I got my first deer with that rifle, a nice 6 point buck. If it works use it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Thanks, Dan, and I love the reticle crosshairs on this scope. I have this same scope on my 700 BDL 30-06, it was on the rifle when I bought it years ago. I fell in love with the scope. To this day it still holds zero. Each year I would take it, I would shoot it only one time, and I hit my mark. Sometimes I might shoot two or three shots, I love shooting the 700. Nope don't have to worry about an exposed turret that could get turned. As some people have said, a click or two wouldn't be to bad at close range, but it is just the thought of always worrying if it turned, how much did it turn, etc. When hunting all you are thinking about is seeing movement and seeing if it is a deer, and if so, getting the rifle up and getting it in the scope. You don't need to be worrying is the turret set right, did it move, etc. Simpler is always better. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Yes, Richard. I did do that. As I mentioned at the beginning of the video, I have to be careful of what I show on the video due to TH-cam policies they have. Over the years I have had 4 videos taken down by TH-cam. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Keith, neither have I. I have had this same scope on my 700 BDL 30-06 ever since I bought the 700. This will be the perfect scope on this HOWA 308. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Randy, the Nikko Stirling would be a great scope if it had a way to lock that top turret to keep it from turning freely when it rubs up against something. That is why I said it was more a target/range scope, not a hunting scope. This Bushnell is really a nice scope, I like the reticle crosshair system in it. At least now when we go hunting, we won't have to worry if a turret has turned on us while walking in. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Love the old Remingtons!! I actually have two 700's, one is from the 70's, it is the BDL grade, and the other is from the 2000's and it has the synthetic stock. That is okay, but I love the old 700 BDL with the walnut stock. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Exactly, James. That is my thinking as well. I have never been one of those people who think I have to have the most expensive stuff to be a hunter. Some think you aren't a real hunter if you don't have a $1,500 rifle, $1,000 scope, $500 hunting outfit, and so on. You are a hunter just by getting out there and hunting, all that stuff to me is just ego. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Those aren’t bad scopes I use bushnell scopes on some of my rifles also I even have the cheaper simmons pro target on one of my deer rifles and have no issues with them they hold zero and that’s all you need for a scope to do
No there not, Abel. I have one on my Remington 700 BDL, and it has been on that rifle since I bought it. I have had no issues with that scope when hunting with it, and it has held zero all these years. I have had a lot of scopes in my 40+ years of hunting from Tasco (the original back in the 70's), Bushnell, Simmons, Centerpoint, etc. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie
Nothing wrong with the banner scope. To many people think an expensive scope will make them a better shot. If people spent more time learning to shoot well and practicing instead of wasting money on expensive rifles and scopes. So many people never shoot there rifle until maybe a round or two before season. Same with a bow. I'd much rather spend my money on a few boxes of ammo.
Warren, you are so right with your comments!! I have this same Banner scope on my 700 BDL 30-06 and it hasn't failed me all these years. Its still holding zero. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Mark, I am sure it will. I have the same scope on my old 700 BDL 30-06, I have had it on there since I got the 700. To this day it is still held zero. I haven't hunted with the 700 since 2022, when I got the HOWA. I should have changed the scope on the HOWA when we first discovered the issue with the turret, but last year Jerod and I both got bucks. Thought that as long as we kept a check on the turret we would be fine. That is just to much to be thinking about when you're in the woods hunting. You mind then is on one thing, movement, and not of the scope turret, movement of a deer. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Not my first choice but okay. Had a few over the years and just okay. It will do the job to 100 yds. 🎉🎉 the pig reticule drives me nuts🎉😂 of course I’m already nuts🎉😂😂
Around here, 100 yards is probably the farthest you would get to shoot. We hunt in the mountains, steep mountains, even on our lease you might get 150, and this scope will handle it. I have the exact same scope on my Remington 700 BDL in 30-06. It was on the rifle when I bought it years ago, and to this day it is still holding zero. I love the Circle X, it helps these old eyes of mine to pick up the crosshairs faster and I know if I get that circle on the shoulder, the shot is going to hit its mark. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
The turrets wont move on their own, dragging them in and out of cases can make them move a click or two but even if it moved 12 clicks, 3moa, at the distances you all are shooting it won't make you miss a deer. If i missed an explanation of why the scope turret was moved a lot in jarrods case I'm sorry, like a child moving it several revolutions would obviously cause a big issue. Good luck with your new scope, to each their own, we use exposed turret scopes on most of our big game scope and haven't had an issue. Shoot the new scope once a month all year and keep the targets and see if there is any significant movement like more than a click or two that can happen from temp changes etc throughout the year, nothing to do with turrets like the rest of my post, just to make sure you scope holds zero all year with handling, transporting, etc. Better to find an issue during the off season
Well, the first question I would have to ask you is, does your open turret have locking rings?? I know by researching scopes over the past few weeks, there are a lot of scopes that have open turrets that have locking rings, or push down to lock into place once zero'd. I am not new to hunting and scopes, other than scopes with exposed turrets. I have never liked them, I understand their use, get them zero'd at 100 yards, back out some allen head screws on the turret, lift and rotate to "0" on the dial. You see big game out to 400 to 500 yards, do the math in your head, unlock, if the turret has a locking ring, your turret and rotate the appropriate clicks to get your rifle to hit at that range. Once done, take it back to "0" and your back at 100 yards. Well in our part of the country, you might get a 150 to 200 yard shot at a deer. This scope, which is the second one I own now, is good for us. We don't have to worry about the turret rubbing on our backpacks on that mile walk we have if we shoulder the rifle, we don't have to worry that each time we pull out or put the rifle in the soft case that it is going to turn. We don't have to worry about the laurel or any underbrush we walk by snagging or rubbing on the turret. For long range shooters this scope might be fine, but for us this Bushnell Banner Circle X is a great scope. I have this same scope on my old 700 BDL 30-06 that I have had for years and that scope is still holding zero. So I know that scope. We knew of the issue in 2023 when we got the rifles, it was a combo deal from HOWA, and thought that it won't be a problem, we each took pictures of the settings once the rifle was zero'd. In 2023, after getting to our stands we both knew the turrets had turned. We put them back to the original settings and both got a deer. I got a deer about 30 yards out, and Jerod got a deer around 175 yards away. We always check zero when we get to camp, but this year with so much issues with the camper and getting things setup, we just ran out of time. We should have, and I admit, we should have made the time to shoot them before we went to hunt. After Jerod's issue, that evening we checked his, and it was off. Don't know what turned his turret so much, but we got it zero'd again. I shot mine it was right on. This next season we won't have to worry about exposed turrets at all. I thank you for watching and your comment. Juddie
Throw that scope and that rifle in the trash. Git back to yer ol 742. Seriously, glad you swapped out that trash with too many knobs on it. KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. Nothing wrong with a good ol simple Bushnell.
Well the scope, yes, but I do like the HOWA, it got me a decent buck in 2023. The ole 742, now that is my baby and I am particular about hunting with her. The issues known regarding the 742, I want to take care of her. But I should take the ole girl out again, just for the memory. I agree keep it simple, Jerod was looking at a Vortex scope, he sent me a link to it. I looked at it and messaged him back and told him that he didn't want that since it required a battery. That would just be another thing that could fail. I think all it did was illuminate the crosshairs, but really, why. I have never had issues with the crosshairs in my scope. So many gimmicks to try and sell something now days. I like this Bushnell Banner Circle X scope, it is the same scope I have on my 700 BDL 30-06, and it has been on that rifle since I bought the rifle. Hasn't failed me, and remains on zero. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie

As long as a scope holds its zero and doesn’t fog up its as good as the most expensive scope that you can get

Juddie
Man, you weren't kidding about changing out that scope as soon as you got home. Hope it works out for you.
Juddie
I hope and believe that changing scopes is a good idea. I wish y’all the best.
Nice looking scope I really like that reticle now you don't have to worry about that torrent moving on you!
Juddie
Did you check the eye relief
Watch and listen at 8:37 👍
Yes, Richard. I did do that. As I mentioned at the beginning of the video, I have to be careful of what I show on the video due to TH-cam policies they have. Over the years I have had 4 videos taken down by TH-cam. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Never had any issues with my Bushnell scopes
Keith, neither have I. I have had this same scope on my 700 BDL 30-06 ever since I bought the 700. This will be the perfect scope on this HOWA 308. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Glad you all did different target shooting hunting I’d not have one
Randy, the Nikko Stirling would be a great scope if it had a way to lock that top turret to keep it from turning freely when it rubs up against something. That is why I said it was more a target/range scope, not a hunting scope. This Bushnell is really a nice scope, I like the reticle crosshair system in it. At least now when we go hunting, we won't have to worry if a turret has turned on us while walking in. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
@ your right on that point all I use is a Bushnell scope I’ve had others itself just as good for me anyways
I have that same scope on a couple of my rifles, never had a problem with them
Can't beat a Remington 700 !
Love the old Remingtons!! I actually have two 700's, one is from the 70's, it is the BDL grade, and the other is from the 2000's and it has the synthetic stock. That is okay, but I love the old 700 BDL with the walnut stock. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie
Use what you want to it's up to you not someone that thinks you have to have a 1000 dollar scope
Juddie
Whooo hoooo. 👍👍
Chad, I hope you enjoy it. Have to watch how much I show in the video, TH-cam policies!
Juddie
That scope will do you a great job!
Juddie
