7000 bucks ?!? Damn, the DGA / French ministry intend to get 100% money back from this program thanks to military surplus or what ?😅 It's a shame we have to export them, but at least I doesn't go in hand of "allied rebels" in Lybia or so and it's not destroyed. Enjoy, dear Americans! And joyeux Noël/merry Christmas everyone!
Sadly, the Felin optics have a classified data link (I don't say it's good, I say they don't want the encryption key and tech to be public) so it won't be exported, and thermals are illegal to put on a firearm or helmet in France, so they'll either be destroyed, or modified and then sell to civilians or be given in Ukraine, so, just few will stay intact in museum. I hope the British Royal Armory collection will receive one 🤞
Hilarious that most gamer's first memory of the Valorise FAMAS was from Black Ops 1, which took place in the 1960s before the FAMAS even existed. I love Black Ops anachronisms.
That FELIN concept (much like the UK "FIST" concept) was ahead of its time. I think now, tech has caught up to a point where it might actually be somewhat practical to have stuff like that!
We now have commercially available digital scopes, and digital NVG monoculars, so it really isn't that much of a leap to think a soldier could have a button that would send the image from their rifle to their eye. The only sticking point I can think of is whether you would want a cable between the two, or to use some kind of wireless, because they both have disadvantages and tradeoffs... a cable is going to get snagged and maybe disconnected; wireless is iffy at best and susceptible to snooping and jamming.
agreed. France prides it self on its distinct yet competent military. they see the success other similar programs are having. they appsolutly will try this again when they rebuild the national budget after there (recent) political turmoil.
