- If you look for interviews from Arsenal players in the late 90s and early 2000s, many will say that their favorite teammate ever was Dennis Bergkamp. There's a reason for this.
The man was sleek, discreet, and above all else- efficient. Today, we look back on how great the man truly was and how much of an impact he had on not only Arsenal, but English football.

"If he played in the snow, he would leave no footprints" no words describe this legend better
What’s that mean
I think that was said about Zidane by Beckham
@@Tabish29 Stevie G said that about Bergkamp
@Neymar is my idol they both said it then
The Legolas of football
It's almost insane to think Henry's favorite teammate of all time is Bergkamp.
Not Viera, not Xavi, not Zidane, not even Messi.
He was the perfect teammate for a great quick striker, his skills in support were world class and he was extremely dangerous (from a goalscoring perspective) on his own. So you can't just drown the front man in bracket marking, it leaves far too much space for Bergkamp to score himself. If Van Basten hadn't been ruined by injuries I think they'd have won Holland something internationally.
@@grantaitken253 I mean van Basten did win something for Holland internationally. I don't think strikers were an issue for the Netherlands between 1970 - 2014 (nowadays it is).
But yea having van Basten in your team is always going to make you better ;-)
Not if you’d watched that Arsenal team play! He played in a front 2 with him, and their games suited each other perfectly, Bergkamp was an ideal #10 to Henry’s #9
@@daarom3472 Van Basten would made it big
Well he was his strike partner
I wasn't shocked cuz Henry didn't spend a long time in Barça if he did
Yeah we all know what would happen 😂
Dennis Bergkamp is just one of those players who makes you fall in love with football again and again. I was too young to see him play in the Premiership during his prime but watching it back in my mid 20s and seeing the class he oozed reminds me why I love the beautiful game and total football
I couldn't have put it better myself!
Absolutely. I was watching in his prime and he's my favourite player ever. As you said, makes you fall in love with the game. He was so brilliant, mixed ahead of everyone else in the league at that time.
His first touch on PES was around 97. This man was just pure class and technical ability.
The non flying Dutch man was exceptional to say the least!!
I remember van Persie once telling the story of when he was a young lad at Arsenal (Dutch TV). Bergkamp just came back from injury and played a practice session with some of the younger lads (passing, dribbling). Van Persie said that even though Bergkamp didn't hold back (passing hard, doing 1-touches), in an entire session of 45 minutes he didn't play a single wrong pass or make any mistake.
You have like number 100. Dennis Bergkamp is still my favourite. Before Dennis
arrived, Arsenal had not won a PL Title. When he left, we had won 3. (Not a big
deal some people might say). However, we have not won one since ! How we could
do with a Dennis Bergkamp now. Are you an Arsenal supporter ?
@@robinarden8877 I'm not. And yea Dennis Had a huge influence on that team but lets not act as if Arsenal was totally rubbish before that. They won the 88/89 and 90/91 titles.
@@daarom3472: I remember it well. If only we could have won 89/90
Division 1 Title. That would have been 3 in a row !
Bergkamp is the reason I’m an Arsenal fan, being a tall as hell blond kid trying to learn my balance on the pitch, bergkamp was everything I wanted to be
Nice video.. Bergkamp got his statue in London and deserved it as well..
Genius!!!
Bergkamp had the sickest first touch I've ever seen, and together with his vision and composure he created so much for the teams he was in.
Glad to have seen him play in person, even if it was only a pre-season friendly.
Him and Kluivert for The Netherlands in FIFA98 were forces to be reckoned with. I often enjoyed them more than my national team, Argentina... But then he broke my heart in those Quarter finals. Good times 😄🇦🇷🇳🇱😑⚽❤️
His hat trick vs Leicester was an all timer. All 3 goals were top 3 in goal of the month for that month
Bergkamp was my favorite after henry during that arsenal era. Absolute class.
Bergkamp’s technical proficiency was so good, it was arguable that he was Cruyff’s Dutch successor.
Almost, For me it was Cruijff, then van Basten and then Bergkamp entered the scene.
The man, the myth, the legend. If he played in the snow, he would leave no footprints.
His goal vs Newcastle is the still the most unique goal I’ve seen yet. 👌
Love the way you showed the goal at 10:59 - it's probably the most artistic goal I've seen in my 50 years...he really was a magician
I didn’t get to see him since I didn’t have access to European football growing up. But watching him at the WC98 against Mexico and that goal vs Argentina is one of those childhood memories I’ll never forget. Y’all arsenal fans were lucky to see him week after week.
This is what I'm talking about 🔥🔥 Dennis the Menace!!
His goal against Newcastle is still my favourite goal of all time.
My favorite Arsenal player of all time and one of my top 5 favorite players of all time. I grew up with seeing this genius at work sometimes and apart from being a genius he was also very loyal, which is an important part to becoming a legend for a certain club in my opinion.
He is the reason that i am a Ajax and an Arsenal fan
Best player I have EVER seen in an Arsenal kit. Pure, 100%, unadulterated LEGEND.
As a lifelong Arsenal fan for 35 years, I'd say Bergkamp is my favourite player of all time, closely followed by Thierry Henry. I would watch his positioning, passing and touch carefully when I was younger and was amazed by it. I prefer players who play further back in the team as it's a position I can relate to more than an out and out striker.
always crazy to think how many amazing players netherlands produced im a argentina fan but i will root for them next wc if argentina lose.. they 100% deserve it they have crazy amount of talent there.. sooo many big names in history they can rival brazil and france
Nagi from "Blue Lock" is based off him, very cool
Imagine a front two of Bergkamp and Bendtner.
Mindblowing.
I'm an ardent PSV fan and the fact that Bergkamp, an Ajax icon, is still my favorite player from my childhood should tell you enough.
my favourite Invincible. His first touch was simply unparalleled. Hail to the Non-Flying Dutchman!
I'm watching from TEMA Ghana 🇬🇭
Best Sports TH-cam Channel.
Keep it up 👌
Loved him in the national team and I was so thrilled when he joined us. I give Vieira a hair thin slim edge as my fav player @ Arsenal with Dennis a tight second.
I loved football sinds i was a kid but that day i watched live when he scored that goal against Argentinia to the semi finals of the World cup. I see football as an art! To je able
To play with time and space and not even thought or invented tricks just make te right decision in the moment so elegant cant replicate It after i happened ! Its a real art ! I will never forget that moment !
Loved Bergkamp, his goal against Newcastle is still rated as the best goal ever in Premier League history. I feel so honoured that he came to our club and I got to watch him play
Love this video. Bergkamp was one of the greatest players the PL has ever seen.
My favourite player of all time. Unreal first touch, lethal finisher, creative beyond belief, incredible control of the ball and even a bit of a nasty streak when he needed it. My first exposure of him when he lobbed Chris Woods on the volley in England v Holland 1993 - The coolness of that goal, the nonchalantness of it, I was absolutely sold on the guy from that point on.
That was an amazing goal indeed. To my surprise it is hardly ever mentioned in his top 25 best goals ever.
Dennis Bergkamp, Dennis Bergkamp…DENNIS BERGKAMP!!
Found this channel a few months ago and I have to say that I had to subscribe it after watching a few videos. Loving this channel
I’m a Chelsea fan, but Dennis is my favourite player after watching him at Arsenal.
Best first touch in the history of the league, and his goals are some of the best ever scored 👌🏻
Bergkamp and Rui Costa will forever be my idols. They dont make them like they used to....
Imagine how fire Fiorentina would be if Bergkamp went there with Rui Costa and Batigol
So under rated nowadays. My favorite player ever.
That goal with Newcastle,I saw it Monday the week after on Eurogoals I think,it broke my brain.
Definition of elegance 🫶🏼 what a player (Dennis berkamp)
11:00 is my favourite football goal of all time. Bergkamp is an all time great, he played rough and agressive but moved with the grace of a ballerina. Growing up Bergkamp and Henry were like Batman and Superman their individual skills were out of this world and their chemistry on the pitch was second to none. Great to see him getting his flowers!
Finally did a video on him yay! been waiting for this one ☝️
I prefer videos where you do a video about past players.
i support argentina always has been but everytime i hear there is bergkamp! i get chills
Yea his goal against you was insane, I remember watching the game live and being so proud he was an Arsenal player
The (Dutch) commentator shouted: "Dennis Bergkamp, Dennis Bergkamp" and so on 😉
A lot of kids these days probably don't know Bergkamp, they never got to see him and only know how to constantly GOAT-ify Messi and Ronaldo. But the things this guy did during his prime just makes you fall in love with football - very few can reach Ronaldo's fitness level or slalom past defenders like Messi, so for me many of the things Bergkamp did were more possible to emulate. He didn't have to run fast or dribble past several players often, just a few simple artful touches is enough.
yup for just those reasons i also like berbatov and ronaldinho.
That first touch is other worldly... ❤️😍🤩
smooth oprator ! you got it !!
These kind of players we won’t see anymore.
ahh what a classic at the start, the commentator going absolutely insane for Berkamp
THANKS FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! SO UNDERRATED LEGEND ONE OF THE BEST EVER!!! THANKS FOOTBALL TRULY ICONIC!
Brilliant player for Arsenal, which became his footballing home. Plus Dennis constantly delivered the goods for Holland at the big tournaments i.e. Euro 1992, World Cup 1994 & World Cup 1998. Dennis English hears though during the qualification for World Cup 1994.
Le meilleur premier contrôle de l'univers 🏆
Bergkamp, what a phenomenon. What else can you feel as a Dutchman than pure pride when you realize how our many legends have influenced and inspired football. Respect and thanks.
Bergkamp 😍
The greatest in an Arsenal shirt. I can't believe I used to get to watch him in that beautiful Art Deco stadium. I would take him over any player as a talisman for what I love about the game.
The most technically gifted player that every played in the prem the guy was a joke.. in his prime he had legs once he lost those he started to prove himself with his brain. Insane player
you mean he was no joke, right?
@@Inus no think he meant a joke as in he was so good that it was laughable
@johnrockyryan he was good wasnt he? :D Loved his skills
amazing channel love from zim
Great video as always! Love your attention to detail.
Great video! I never knew he had a fear of flying. Your research, editing, and graphics are really well done! 👏😄 Thank you for your hard work!
I really enjoy your vids, so thank you a lot, please keep on and stay healthy!
The best player I seen in an Arsenal shirt
To imagine, the man wouldn't get on a plane for a game.
How many highlights did we never get?
Great Player
pure genius!
i am dutch and i luv this vid! So true Cruyff and Bergkamp... Very good vid !!!!!
Bergy, the best ever, period.
Nice commentary.
After Van Nestlroy he's my favourite Dutch prem league player. Then Van Persie 3rd
My favourite player ever. Best player to play for my club
Was such an honour to watch him live at highbury
Ladies and Gentlemen if you'd excuse me *ahem ... DENNIS BERGKAMP!! DENNIS BERGKAMP!! DENNIS BERGKAMP!! DENNIS BERGKAMP!! DENNIS BERGKAMP!! DENNIS BERGKAAAAMPASSDFJKLH!! *aneurysm kicks in. *ahem Thank you
The one player I feel the most sorry for never winning the Champions League 😢
Goat touch
My favourite player ❤
The beginning of the video is like Ecstasy to my ears 🥺🥺🥺
About damn time
One of the greatest ever
Man is a legend
My fav player. He was among the first raumdeuters in modern football.
my friend got the match ball from berkgamp last ever game.
I am in love with you bro whatta narrator
Dennis Bergkamp. The Iceman Cometh.
Imagine if between 94 and 98, the dutch team could have compose with Van Basten, Gullit, Bergkamp, Overmars, the De Boers brothers and others… so sad that Marco Van Basten had to stop so early…
Bergkamp is always the more elegant and magical player i have seen.
Style !
legend
And now we have Odegaard the modern reincarnation
I'm excited for part 2 of gareth bale video1
Bergkamp video out at 3:00 a.m.? I'll make sure that i'll be watching this on the TV with my fanciest breakfast
As a Utd fan during Bergkamps hayday, he was always applaudable.👏 A true genius with the the ball that we were privileged to watch 👏 THAT GOAL against Newcastle, as Tinashe says, was sublime. Its clear on rewatches since that Dennis knew exactly how he wanted it to happen as the pass arrived, created and achieved it, and its deservedly up there with being one of the best goals of all time
People forget that he was quick and a goal machine at Ajax! But yeah his touch, awareness and playmaking actually elevated the premier league at a time were rigid 442’s were the norm. He and Cantona opened the door for more continental fluidity and subtlety to enter.
He's so good that only an anime character can do what he does 😂
one would never have you guessed you are a Man U fan given the amount of Arsenal videos you have released
The best footballer ever.
Not denying that he was an incredibly impactful player, but a bit silly to say Arsenal didn't win before him lol
