      @@robertofschutz466I mean you have a point. But when you understand football deeply you understand why these stats matter. It's not that the guy chose the stats that favor Messi, it's just that Messi is better on the stats that ACTUALLY MATTER. That's why I don't take serious anyone saying "He can't score headers or bicycle goals, etc". Because at the end of the day scoring is scoring, doesn't matter how. But HOW you get to score is what matters and no one scores AND makes his team mates score like Messi.

    • @robertofschutz466
      @robertofschutz466 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@reclutacontramontina5354 I mean playing good headers shows that you can convert any ball into goals, Messi does not but he needs good deep passes not crosses. Furthermore playing back passes isn’t as important and difficult as scoring goals. You saw his performances even in what you call 10/10 games: against France he lost the ball absolutely stupid before the 2:2, against Chelsea his missed a penalty and played shit and also lost the ball before 1 goal. He isn’t that good in important as Ronaldo. Doing back passes against Grenada isn’t NEARLY as hard as scoring bicycles vs Juve. And in the video above Ronaldo missed a penalty in an unimportant league match. Messi for example missed against Chelsea in the UCL and against CHILE in the Copa when it was important😂

    It's like if a youngster plays one game only and scores, you wouldn't have expected him to keep a 1.0 goal per match performance through an entire season, let alone a career, but he's gonna have a better rate than any of the regular starters that season.
    So yeah, interesting to see, but there is no deep meaning to them.

      If anything you’re comparing their prime, Maradona’s highest high was the 86 WC, before and afterwards he was great, legendary even, but never that peak
      Same with Zidane, who often as it was said back then, “took off games”, ghosting league matches and generally being inconsistent throughout a season, with his highest highs only on a few matches in a few tournaments
      Or of course players with really short primes like Ronaldinho, who hit a ginormous ridiculous peak, then fizzled out progressively
      If anything, that just highlights Ronaldo, Neymar, and mostly Messi, being at the top of the world by far for like 14 seasons, something unprecedented in history, and that I doubt will ever again happen

    As a Data Scientist, I think this video serves as a reminder to everyone that just because you can read statistics doesn't mean you understand it. I explain below.

    • @sssf55
      @sssf55 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      Futbolistics makes severe fundamental errors in his interpretations of these statistics. Most notably he believes compound statistics such as those used by Whoscored and (some other random Data Scientist) are reliable measures. Unfortunatley they are not, because by compounding multiple variables you lose focus on the variables that truly matter. For instance scoring a goal or making a goal line tackle is almost infinitely more impactful to the team than any other statistic (like dribbles/90), but its weight isn't represented as such. Hence, when you combine 200 variables together, the value of things that truly matter are extremely diminished.
      Additionally, he chooses not to show you assist and chance creation statistics when talking about creativity, which is absolutely ridiculous. Players like Muller, Benzema, Beckham and Xavi are thus nowhere to be seen.
      Sure progressive passes and progressive carries are important, but only within the context of the players position- notice how there are zero defenders or strikers on this list because it is midfielders and wingers who would have the highest numbers for this statistic.
      While Messi is clearly the most talented player to ever play the game, the improper choice of methodology here is overstating his impact by compounding his strengths that might not have as a significant true impact on the game. Muller and Xavi are perfect counter examples here because although they have an insane impact on games, they'll lose out because they don't perform enough dribbles or take ons/90. If you want to go even further, metronomic midfielders like Scholes and Pirlo are some of the most impactful players in a game, but this statistical methodology will completely ignore them because they spend part of their game protecting possession and dictating the pace of the game.
      Moral of the story, compound statistics is generally useless in football analysis. The way you understand players is by both watching them and looking at how individual statistics fit into their general play.

    His ability and intelligence to motivate himself is what allowed him to transition to a goalscorer and remain competitive.
    That's why in some of those years he won over Messi, it wasn't because Messi wasn't the G.O.A.T or Messi was bad, no, it was because Cr7 was overpowered in the one thing he could do better than anyother player.... His Game Intelligence aka Goal Scoring.

    As someone who watched Zidane live (I'm in my 30s and the first major tournament I can remember is the 98 World Cup).... Zidane was extraordinary, beautiful to watch. However, I also clearly remember moments where things didn't go as smooth with him. Right before his final World Cup for example, he wasn't doing all to great with Real. That Galacticos team also had some struggles throughout the years. The modern day Real was a much better team than that generation of Galacticos.
    People often do exaggerate about Zidane, because he really wasn't as consistently brilliant like the standard we're used to today. I'd also say the same about Ronaldinho. Ronaldinho's peaks were huge and incredible, but it was also short and also not as consistent. I would for example always rate Neymar higher than Ronaldinho, but people nowadays act like Ronaldinho is some kind of untouchable legend.
    Messi and Ronaldo are both special cases though. What they have done, is something I haven't seen since I can remember watching football. Usually players have shorther primes. Their primes were insanely long and their longevity, mentality and talent is on a whole other level than a Zidane or a Bergkamp or a Henry. Bergkamp is btw another one who has gotten mythical status but I also remember a bunch of matches with him basically being useless. It sounds harsh, but its true. people make retired players sound much better than they were, but dont get me wrong Bergkamp was great. But he wasn't as consistently great.

    Thank you for showing how much Neymar is overhated and underappreciated, he was a fenom, one of the greatest talents to ever touch the ball, indeed not professional as Messi and Ronaldo but magical, imo he is better then Pele and on par with Gaucho, R9 was maybe slightly better (Brazilian comparison), as well Cruyff is player that is as well forgotten by many but a player who was so incredible and who developed football on his own both as a footballer and a coach, true genius

      Consistently good in unimportant matches. every good footballer can score against opponents like osasuna or Granada, but just one can do it in UCL important games: His name is Cristiano Ronaldo.
      Post scriptum: You cant compare forward passes or dribbling tries to uCL KO goals. Messi was often bad inimportant UCL moments, Ronaldo won more UCLs with a way worse team…

    Cause no man Ronaldo most of his time at Man United days (2003-2006)he became a wide midfielder and was not giving enough freedom in SAS system that time it’s only the 2007 2008 season were he got a free role and was the main man for Man United
    Compared to Messi when he became a starter for Barcelona he was Inverted Winger which he got a free role
    Now at 2015 Ronaldo decided to stop dribbling more often and just become a prolific goalscorer because of his kneeeeeeeeeeeeees!

      @@ntsikamaswana7198 because of his knees??
      Buddy stop watching reels and edits. He can jump highest, run faster but can't dribble??
      It's just the difference in training and the role he got assigned.
      His dribbling wasn't that good in 2008 where he scored a lot of goals bcuz he was more direct in that season. In Madrid with No.9 jersey he again got a lot of dribbling but when Mourinho came and wanted him to be a goalscorer he started changing his style bot because of his knees. If he would be the dribbler and showboater like earlier days then he wouldn't have the goalscoring records he has nowadays so be grateful for that. Moreover even his freekick ability declined a lot showing his lack of practice in Freekicks and more time invested in striker role and penalties etc

    Let's make it simple, you can't compare Ronaldo and Messi because they are doing different stuff.
    Ronaldo is a goal scorer, a complete stricker.
    Meanwhile, Messi is an advanced playmaker, which can also score.
    They are the G.O.A.T ' s in they're own position and playstyle. I hope this will end up the mistery "who is better"
