People often laugh at me when i say Zizou was a bit overrated but this actually supports my opinion. I am in my 40s so i was an adult and well aware during his career. Don't get me wrong: i would still put him in the top 15 of All time, He was great but He is not on the Level of messi, Maradona, R9 or Dinho. This video sums up perfectly the reality of football, but also the debate of Messi vs Ronaldo. Ronaldo is one of the best players in history, no one doubts it. He is a goal-scoring machine, a work maniac, and a man who can turn a game around if he wants to. But the best player to exist is Messi by far. We have never seen anything like him, and never will. He is football in a player. I have the most admiration for Ronaldo, and you cannot discredit the man. But Messi is different. I am so glad I was able to see them play, and forever thankful to God for it. Good video man.
People aren’t talking enough about how crazy that Johan Cruyff stat is. The man created the football that made Messi… maybe he isn’t the goat of football but he definitely is the legend of legends!
And also this guy put Pelé’s 1970 season, but he was almost retired in that year. I would love to see some charts with Zico and Ronaldo phenomenal too. But this video is already a masterpiece
For those who know football it's clear that in football, he is unbeatable Ronaldo is popular and like idolize him for his work ethic. He is one of my idols. And idols of many. But in terms of football it's Messi over Ronaldo anyday if you know anything about football.

So, You got PhD at knowing football? No player is better than one another, all of those legends are the same . The only thing that is comparing them is you fans and your useless opinions and stating it like its a fact. IMO , Ronaldinho clears both Messi and Ronaldo but others might disagree. At the end of the day, It is just your fking opinion and nobody know shit. So, stop acting like you are fking expert and everything you said is fact 😑 It is just your opinion.
Yeah, I think it was Peter Crouch who said that he genuinely loses respect for people's understanding of football if they think Ronaldo is better than Messi, which is how I've always felt too. Messi is just so much better at dribbling, passing, playmaking, while still matching Ronaldo for goals.
The more one starts understanding football (not just somw edits or reels of some very rare highlights of any player) they start appreciating Messi more and more. And if they are open minded and ready to accept the truth then for them Messi becomes the greatest player they have witnessed. For me Messi is the best since I have seen football bcuz comparing with those whom I have never seen is unfair
@NONAMEinfinity But when most coaches agree its hardly an opinion and the more deeper you dive into the stats the picture becomes even more clear, not to mention since 2009 Messi has won like 52% man of the match 😲, that's quite insane isn't it? The second best is Ronaldo with an impressive 30%.
Big respect to Messi, Cristiano and Neymar, they really showed how they're in a league of their own. on the contrary; these didn't account for Messi's prime of 2012 as the study he is following goes after 2017. if you calculate every single stat since they started; Messi would be on an upper echelon beyond any other player in the history of the game. The 120 Perf 10/10 score was just his last 14 seasons which doesn't contain the mindboggling 91 goal calendar year from 2012

A good example of using box plot on football is to analyse the performance in major European football leagues in a given season. It's like if a youngster plays one game only and scores, you wouldn't have expected him to keep a 1.0 goal per match performance through an entire season, let alone a career, but he's gonna have a better rate than any of the regular starters that season. So yeah, interesting to see, but there is no deep meaning to them.
If anything you’re comparing their prime, Maradona’s highest high was the 86 WC, before and afterwards he was great, legendary even, but never that peak Same with Zidane, who often as it was said back then, “took off games”, ghosting league matches and generally being inconsistent throughout a season, with his highest highs only on a few matches in a few tournaments Or of course players with really short primes like Ronaldinho, who hit a ginormous ridiculous peak, then fizzled out progressively If anything, that just highlights Ronaldo, Neymar, and mostly Messi, being at the top of the world by far for like 14 seasons, something unprecedented in history, and that I doubt will ever again happen

When a player like Beckenbauer says that we won the World Cup but the better player was Cryuff, it just shows what his level must have been). Whereas the stat shown of Messi represented Messi's entire career and not just his prime. So I believe he would also be up there, personally better than Maradona statistically in his prime. Johan Cruyff is a legend because of how he changed football forever, his legacy as a manager and the style he created, a style that derived Barça’s style, Gergenpress, Flick’s Bayern, Ten Hag’ Ajax, Van Gaal, pretty much every team that plays great football has a style that can be traced back to Cruyff, which is absolutely legendary on its own, but that often overshadows just how good he was For me it’s Messi, Maradona, Cruyff, R9, in that order, 5th and the following it can be discussed and argued, but the top 4 is untouchable

As a Data Scientist, I think this video serves as a reminder to everyone that just because you can read statistics doesn't mean you understand it. I explain below.
Futbolistics makes severe fundamental errors in his interpretations of these statistics. Most notably he believes compound statistics such as those used by Whoscored and (some other random Data Scientist) are reliable measures. Unfortunatley they are not, because by compounding multiple variables you lose focus on the variables that truly matter. For instance scoring a goal or making a goal line tackle is almost infinitely more impactful to the team than any other statistic (like dribbles/90), but its weight isn't represented as such. Hence, when you combine 200 variables together, the value of things that truly matter are extremely diminished. Additionally, he chooses not to show you assist and chance creation statistics when talking about creativity, which is absolutely ridiculous. Players like Muller, Benzema, Beckham and Xavi are thus nowhere to be seen. Sure progressive passes and progressive carries are important, but only within the context of the players position- notice how there are zero defenders or strikers on this list because it is midfielders and wingers who would have the highest numbers for this statistic. While Messi is clearly the most talented player to ever play the game, the improper choice of methodology here is overstating his impact by compounding his strengths that might not have as a significant true impact on the game. Muller and Xavi are perfect counter examples here because although they have an insane impact on games, they'll lose out because they don't perform enough dribbles or take ons/90. If you want to go even further, metronomic midfielders like Scholes and Pirlo are some of the most impactful players in a game, but this statistical methodology will completely ignore them because they spend part of their game protecting possession and dictating the pace of the game. Moral of the story, compound statistics is generally useless in football analysis. The way you understand players is by both watching them and looking at how individual statistics fit into their general play.
@@sssf55Also, different leagues have different play styles. For example more goals are scored in a Bundesliga match than other top 5 leagues. But these stats will never take these variations into account.

Box plot would have been better
@@rounakgoswami2901 Box plot might not be a good alternative to the scatter plot in visualising data. If my memory serves me correctly, a box plot consists of first, median, third quarters, maximum, minimum and outliers. However, a box plot is used to compare categorical data like genders or test results by showing their statistical distributions. A good example of using box plot on football is to analyse the performance in major European football leagues in a given season. By comparing the distribution of goal shots or differences across UCL, UEL and UECL, we may get some interesting insights on their respective competitive level.

Same with Zidane, who often as it was said back then, “took off games”, ghosting league matches and generally being inconsistent throughout a season, with his highest highs only on a few matches in a few tournaments
Or of course players with really short primes like Ronaldinho, who hit a ginormous ridiculous peak, then fizzled out progressively

@@theannoyedlink5153 Being at the top with poor competition isn't the impressive stat you think it is. Zidane played in an era filled with legends in almost every big team, while Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar dominated in a poor generation of players.

Take Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo's national team performances and their stats drop, they barely accomplished anything for their national teams.
@@55TheOracle55yes because reaching the copa america final 6 times and winning it twice, winning the finalissima, reaching 2 world cup finals and winning one, becoming your country's top scorer and having the most g/a in world cup history is nothing, definetely not impressive.

Ozil, Pogba, Iniesta, Xavi, Neymar, Ribery, Robben, Bale, Modric, Kroos, Hazard, Ibra, Lewandowski.............)
Those two shifted the standard of (high performance footballer) up to an unhealthy level for the rest of humanity.
It's like being addicted to drugs and thinking life has no value without them. 🤣
@@user-vt3qw5ql8b I assume you're talking about Messi, he was always known for not performing as well for his national team compared to Barcelona. This is a fact.
The Argentine national team performance is another story, that's a team accomplishment. But winning 2 and losing 4 is again not a positive stat if that's what you're insinuating. Most of those very same losses were a result of Messi underperforming in clutch situations, further proving my point.
Even the world cup win was heavily pushed thanks to the Quatari hosts...they lost to freaking Saudi Arabia in their opening match, like really?
Being top scorer and assister is about longevity, because of how much longer he's played compared to others. And he only broke this record thanks to 4 penalties that were awarded at the shady Quatari world cup.
What’s insane about that last stat where it’s based on the total value added to a players team, it only dates back to 2017 and Messi was at an older age and STILL had the top seasons out of everyone by a mile, but again what makes it crazy is imagine if it tracked Messi in the DEAD OF HIS PRIME!!!!!!!!! I couldn’t imagine how insane his total value added to his team per game and season would be!
Messi never robbed a single ballon dor. If Ballon dor was actually given to the best player in the world in a year Messi would've won it every year from 2009 to 2023. Hes just too good
@@pablobuquet2534 I repeat, every single season since 2009. Ronaldo or any other player has never been a better player than Messi during those years, except for 2022 benzema.
2013,14,16,17,18
All those seasons his individual statistics were miles ahead of others. But just because his team didn't manage to win the UCLs, the Perez PR did their work and robbed Messi of maybe at least 4 ballan d'ors
If anyone mentions that someone scored more goals than him that year, I ask them to look at the overall statistics, and not just goals scored. Heck even in the goals scoring area, he is above Ronaldo with better goals per game ratio and better per 90 ratio. Let's not talk about the midfielder aspect of Messi's game, otherwise Ronaldo would never stand a chance
Only thing Ronaldo's fan brag about is the number of goals, and he is not better in even that field. He has more goals simply because he has started his career 3 years earlier than Messi.
I have a friend who is basketball fan from his childhood then from about 4 years ago he starting to follow football too. The World Cup ended, when the final match concluded he said 'when someone watch football highlights anyone can idolize different players, but when you actually watched the game then you see the detailed statistics you can't ignore how ridiculously amazing Messi is'
this video is a slap to those cr7 fans who brag on about total goals and cr7 being the real goat
Though statistics aren’t everything you still have to respect the way Messi and Ronaldo can make or Break the game
Once I said to my friend that if you think Zidane is the best you have seen than you never understood the quality of Ronaldinho and Ronaldo Nazario. And I have also said to my friend once that Johan Cryuff was Zidane on Steroids.
Actually he is obsessed of Zidane so I tend to give him a reality check.
For me Cryuff was better than almost every legend you have named except Maradona. Just because he didn't win the World Cup people don't recognise him as the top 3 now.
i think johan cruyff is top 1 no doubt but its true that maradona also deserves top 1 so its really a bit more of personal liking between those 2
@@JoeTkrYT yeah it's upon what you like
Cryuff was way more consistent and was very elegant
But Flair of Maradona was unmatched too
Messi is like a hybrid of both
It's just what style you like the most😊
We should not forget that the chart showed Maradona's prime(which was in World Cup) and Cryuff's prime too(Cryuff was also in his prime in that World Cup.
But Cryuff was in a league of his own so I don't know where will he stand compared to Cryuff.
@@Inquisitive_Nomad Ye but i think messi is on its on top, i didnt talk about him because hes on another level
like someone said once there should be two ballon dors
one for messi and the other one for the rest, cruyff is the only one who is fairly close to messi but i think he still doesnt stand a chance even tho i love him
Johan Cruyff is a legend because of how he changed football forever, his legacy as a manager and the style he created, a style that derived Barça’s style, Gergenpress, Flick’s Bayern, Ten Hag’ Ajax, Van Gaal, pretty much every team that plays great football has a style that can be traced back to Cruyff, which is absolutely legendary on its own, but that often overshadows just how good he was
For me it’s Messi, Maradona, Cruyff, R9, in that order, 5th and the following it can be discussed and argued, but the top 4 is untouchable
@@theannoyedlink5153 agreed, personally i like cruyff more than maradona but thats just personal taste.

Messi 18/19 is by far the greatest season for any individual of all time.
Even when Messi doesn't dribble, he calculates perfectly and runs around defenders so they can't even reach him

Messi (higher because he was more consistent comparing to Maradona)
Maradona (just genius)
Neymar (One of the most complete dribbling playmakers ever)
Cruyff (way ahead of hes time)
Ronaldinho (street football and genius)
Cristiano (one of the most complete players ever, unbelieveble clutch and goal scoring machine, but to say he was at the same level of those genius is bit too much imo, was still great, and for consistency he is only behind Messi for sure)
Zidane, Kaka, Pele, Hazard, Iniesta, Xavi, Ozil, KDB, etc... (they are fantastic too, but the level up is the genius level)
