  • In this segment Clinton shows us some advanced traction control techniques to get the most out of riding in gravel and other poor traction terrain. The hook turn/brake slide technique demonstrated can also be an effective cornering method.
Clinton runs an off-road rider training school which offers professional instruction and guided tours for dirt bikes, atvs, dual-sport bikes, adventure bikes, etc. The training school is located 1-hour from Toronto, Ontario. Lessons are customized to the experience level of each rider and we have vehicles for children and adults.

Sir, the clarity of your instruction and voice is perfect. Again thanks for these videos. This is a technique I need to practice and get comfortable with before I go back to powers sliding. Keep being awesome! Thanks again!

Looking forward to more as I've ridden street my whole adult life, and now just getting into dirt. Problem is, with a dualsport (DR650 for me) it can be pavement one minute, and dirt the next. Talk about learning new habits!

It's weird, as back when I was a kid on a ten speed, I'd do rear brake lockup skids like that all the time.
Now I have to learn it all over again on a motorcycle. Should be instinctual, but I guess a 300 lb bike is a little different to a 30 lb bike.

Hi Clinton! How do you practice tail slides and control in deep gravel with a heavy, loaded down BMW R1150GS or R1200GS? How is the technique different on a much heavier bike? Could you make a video about that?

  • @Desert10075

Thats the most natural thing to do. Ive had a speedometer say 80 in a slide on a friends street bike on a dirt parking lot, but the bike was probably only going 40, the wheel was spinning at 80 mph. My friend let me try his bike so i did really big high speed doughnuts. He saw me doing this and stopped me, he was worried about his bike. Ive always done slides on all my bikes. Mostly dirtbikes because you can die trying it on a road bike if done wrong. Dont lean to far into the turn at all and be ready for the bike to leap straight up if both wheels suddenly regain traction, if your bike slides out, try to get on top of it while its horizontal and still moving if its too fast to jump off yet.

With street tires you can, only on dirt though, on pavement you would crash, to much grip.
