The most important detail when buying a freighter from another 'independent businessman' is to check if its registration and/or transponder have been flagged by any faction or in any system. This can be a pain in the butt, so I would simply get a slicer in to change all identification data on the ship. And I'd pay them a little extra to have memory problems...
Or the next day shot them or see if someone has A problem with them.

There's a lot of overlap. I did a *long* post on how a ship could do double duty, some other mods useful for both types, and some general abuse of *Steve* - _that dolphin collaborator._
Definitely as inconspicuous as possible and with the best tracking equipment, a good cell or carbonite block storage bay are good investments too.
Yea my CR-90 is not working as well as it used in the shields overload almost immediately, the engines are dying, and tibbana storage is worn out. Not to mention the hull, weapons. Hyperdrive, and reactor.

What about living quarters for the crew and other passengers or a galley? In my opinion if the Serenity from Firefly had guns, Shields, and a hyperdrive it would be the perfect freighter. It's got great cargo room and all the aforementioned amenities including two shuttles.

You are wrong it is still CANNON. Just find the second one that was put out in 22018.Its called Star Wars YT-1300 Millennium Falcon. Owner's Workshop Manual. It was put out for the Solo movie.

my ship for smuggling stuff also needs an silent running mode or some kind cloak system but i think an silent running system is cheaper and sufficient enough.

As for second or third best equipment as an independent merchant captain/private contractor, u would need Earth made firearms with special ammo plus attachments to safe your butt if all hell break lose!

A ship will bring you work; a gun will help you keep it. Find a crew, find a job, keep flying.
Han and Chewie would get on well with Mal's crew.
Also keep a look out for used ships that ahve amil-spec model.
You only missed one crucial tip, always go for the one which looks the coolest and has the nicest paint job.

I say grab a used CR90. Great speed, decent shields for it's size and a decent weapons loadout. Plus there are a ton of aftermarket modifications you can get your hands on.
You forgot having a good bathroom and crew quarters. Also, having a good kitchen would be nice.
Possibly the most important thing you would need as an “independent businessman” is a top of the line sensor array plus a good astromech wouldn’t go amiss either failing the astromech a portable data storage device for all your sensitive navigation data
I can't really understand the need for small freighters in the Star Wars universe, you would think that MASSIVE freight haulers would be a lot cheaper than a YT-1300 could possibly haul. That's why we have supertankers to haul oil around the world and container freighters to ship goods around instead of tug boats
Yes, I know that certain individual items need to reach their destinations tomorrow, not next week and there would be some ships like that
But Wouldn't ships like the Falcon be too inefficient for their own good in a galaxy?
As a scavenger, I’m a fan of the Wayfarer-Class medium freighter. With the standard Hangar configuration it’s easy to just open the hangar bay and just swallow parts from a battlefield like some space-faring Whale Shark.
Tbh I would just get that shuttle that Anikin used at the start of the clone wars series (the twilight) because it had a hanger in the back. I would just have a small, nimble fighter in the hanger that I could get out when I get into a heated conflict in space.
I could also use the hanger to haul some cargo and make a small hidden place to store the important stuff in.

Anybody else notice that the vcx-100 is actually a fair bit larger than both the yt-1300 AND dynamic class freighters. The dynamic class had a cargo capacity of about 55 metric tons and the yt-1300 had a capacity of 25-100 metric tons. The vcx-100 was ten meters longer and had a large empty ventral hold in addition to magnetic clamps on the bottom for more cargo. The vcx probably beats both out for cargo capacity but ends up slightly slower, making up for it in defense with more weapon emplacements.
It would cool to see a video talking about the starships from SWTOR. It'd be cool to learn more about the Fury class sith fighter for example, amongst all the others of course. Maybe compare their ability to other bigger ships like the falcon or the mandalorians ship.
Great content as always! You'll also want to bolt on a bunch of gribles and random bits. Sure, if your passenger is an uncouth Tatooine moisture farmer, he may mistake your ship for a hunk of junk, but if you ever need to hide from an imperial fleet, you could just hide in their pre hyperspace trash drop since they'll mistake you for a hunk of junk.
I'd add either a large fuel store, or the space to expand the standard one. Being able to travel further without refuelling not only increases the routes you can travel, it also allows you to bypass areas where the officials are particularly uncooperative. And if anyone is trying to hunt down your ship, having a greater than standard range could take you out of their search pattern.

Now that I have seen the Razor Crest I would honestly use a type of ship like that or a bit bigger. I would definitely give it better defence.

Also make it interspecies compatible - for those races that don't wear pants and may have stuff stuck to their fur (you know who we're growling about).
Otherwise you have to use the airlock and that's nerve-wracking.
A _dasturdly_ option is to connect the sewage systems to a cannon, specifically a projectile launcher, to use as a _deturdent_ to others - putting a whole new spin on having a _crap_ cannon.
I like the YV-560 light freighter. You could use to explore, chart new planets, and find lost treasures with its advanced scanning. Maybe add modifications.
My fave freighter is sort of the Stepchild of the YT series, the 3-Z Light Freighter by Nova Drive. They got the licence from CEC to make a modified design based on the YT-1200. She can carry more and costs a wee bit less than a YT-1300.
Chosing to save your self is not selfish Alan. Its simply being practical.
I would use a hammerhead corvette and modify it so that it has more weapons and a bigger hanger and I would also have a training room on it if I find any force sensitive children on my jobs and I would borrow this ship from a inner rim colony and also Mon calamari shields!
My 7 features (in no particular order). 1. Cost, if you can't buy the ship, you can't fly it 2. Storage Space, the stuff you can cram into the ship, the more profit you make 3. Reliability: The more time your ship spends repairing, the less time making money. 4. Be inconspicuous, the less you look like, the less pirates would shoot you and the less weapons you have, the easier it is to go through ports. 5. Defense, while the best defense is to not be attacked, it is a matter a time someone will try to take you stuff, (If you can just give the pirates what they want) but you want some armor and a couple of guns. 6 Pressurized cargo bays, so you can haul more passengers. 7. Speed, the faster you go, the more stuff you haul.

What I never got about the millennium falcon, it's does not have any cargo space or loading doors. So if you ask me, on its own it is not a freighter. Except it is able to push or pull a cargo module, like a semi truck pulls a trailer.
I'd go for either the corvette from Battlefront 2, or a Republic Med ship, tricked out with all the stuff he mentioned.
so with this info i have deducted the best possible freighter for starwars: something a wee bit larger than the millennium falcon, say about in the middle of a corvette and freighter, forward and aft launching torp tubes (with smuggled proton torps in a hidden area), a decent set of dorsal and ventral cannons, ROF of 250 RPM leaves you open for a huge bracket of options and power, a quick launch shuttle with stowage and crawl space for the higher paying jobs, a main shield that is pretty stout, but a couple quick charging shields as reactionary procedures when things go tits up, a well tuned hyper drive, with as good a backup as you can get, clad up well and make it look like it survived a nuclear holocaust, crew quarters cause you gotta have a good crew for when things go tits up, a fair cargo space with a lot of crawl space, if you are gonna smuggle make sure you can carry quite the pretty load, a decent storage space for supplies, cause, you're gonna need supplies, damn good engines to really get the ship moving and stun snubs when you outrun the fastest of ships, and to top it all off, have a slicer or two on hand just to really make it hard af to track you
By a yv 929. Has i am pretty sure twice the cargo of a yt 1300 and its armerment can take out many ships so no need to worry abour pirates
So you need one of three ships YT-1300 YT-2400 or the VCX-100.I mean just look at the history of the ships like the Millennium Falcon Iron Squadron and of course the Ghost.

I would use a mix between fast but also tough I would also if needed make more spaces to hide things so yeah :D
Always fancied the fury class interceptor with a few mods to bring it up to date ...engines, weapons ... Maybe even a mod to carry a secondary craft like the ghost.

I myself, always liked the idea of multiple systems -independently powered; heavy main shield generator-(s), secondary shield generators, heavy armor enhancement field generators, and finally multi-layered heavy armor -(when they thought they knocked a big..or small part off, you can ignore them..leaving them stunned at the next shots bouncing off an illusion of an open wound).
Even after all that, the need for speed... and a sizable cargo capacity, stand equal; the need a preposterous number of... high quality hyper drives -(of ..."unspecified origins"), ensuring more than one in reserve during... "hurried business deals.." not going "...entirely as planned", while, when all goes well, plenty of room-or-rooms, that accommodate all manner of matter -or passengers...in a hurry..not to be where just were -(energy dampers that chambers look empty to near all scanners).
Personally I would go with something a little bigger than a freighter, something like a CR90 or a Gonzanti, they’re just as cheap and they can carry more cargo and you can put more weapons on it. But that’s just my opinion

You completely forgot about what's inside the starship. Cargo space (hidden or open), sleeping quarters, the power generator, sensors systems, the ships computer (navicomputer especially). Does it have any additional facilities like a small med or repair bay?
Your light freighter is your home, in Star Wars. Treat it like Malcolm Reynolds treats Serenity, or you'll be just another blown up hunk of junk.

Disabling the safety features and governors of all a freighters hyperdrive has some problems. Most hyperdrives become unstable without the safeties and governors in place. This can result in much higher maintenance costs and more down time... it does let you pull off incredibly insane stunts if the pilot has the reflexes and timing of a force user though.
I would take the YT-1300fp or the YT-2400.

I'm rather fond of an upgraded pre-Empire XS light freighter with a custom Theed Palace 0.75 hyperdrive, the dorsal laser turret exchanged for a dual medium ion cannon turret and an added ventral meduim laser turret just for starters.
Hmmm...I thought that a VCX, like the Ghost, was a larger ship than the YT-1300.
If I could just buy a used ship I would probably get the name model as the tantive it’s a luxury ship with four escape pod that have a canon on it

Hyper-drive is to unreliable in High Gravitational fields I will go with either Trans-Warp Drive or Spore Drive since they use Subspace rather then Hyper Space to Travel in

here's a video idea. 10 flaws with Starkiller Base. that ONE plot idea broke my suspension of disbelief almost instantly, so i think it might be a good idea to see what the experts here have to say about this insanely overpowered, physics defying monstrosity of a super weapon.
I'm pretty sure that the word you're looking for is invisible, as in unseen, as opposed to invincible, as in unbreakable.
Interesting that you didn't mention the accessability of the main cargo hold. Ideally the cargo hold should have direct access to the outside with a door and cargo ramp to make it easier to use automated equipment to load or unload the cargo bay. The YT-1300 seems to require cargo to enter via the boarding ramp, and be carried around the circular corridor to the cargo hold. This limits the size of the cargo one could carry and increases the time required to load and unload the relatively small cargo holds. Freight elevators (like some Star Wars vessels have) is an okay compromise in that thay load cargo directly into the bay but they do limit the size of the cargo loading equipment that can be used. There is no better solution than a large boarding ramp like cargo door. That is why all the freighters I have designed use them.
That used to bug me about the Falcon, too. Then I found more lore on the optional designs. Freight-loading elevators, Crate-holding mandible notch, Passenger configuration, etc. It made more sense after that.
I would also like to have a decent lounge area... considering the amount of time spent aboard the ship i would want to be comfortable... Oh, and no Wookies (can you imagine the hair clogging up the shower, the life support system and everything else?).
If you really want to set up a a space freighter a back up career would go a long way in making you successful. Something from a military background or something from the gambling field. Going to need to know how to fight and bet you way or swindle if you would rather to get out of tight situations.
