    Say what you will about George Lucas' ability to write scripts - but he did at least hire designers and artists that created vessels and warships that made sense within the universe, whilst still being visually distinctive and advancing the universe. The Acclamator is one fine example of a multi-role warhship that would be loved by a Navy that is suddenly finding itself fighting a galactic war

      That was Lucas' best skill. He surrounded himself with very talented people.
      Be it the special effects wizards at ILM, great editors like his ex-wife Marcia Lucas, great musicians like John Williams (who deserved top billing before any of the actors in the Original Trilogy), and great designers.
      Some of the designs are his own, of course. The story of how he came up with the Millenium Falcon is well known.
      But then you have ships like the LAAT Gunship which are some of the coolest and most realistic desgined ships in all of science fiction.

      He also had a good eye for the little details we often take for granted.
      Choosing designs (or bits of them) he liked and making suggestions of what direction they could go with them.
      I like how you can see the spiritual ancestors of certain Vehicles from the OT in the Prequel era. There's a lot more visual creativity going on throughout these six films compared to the Disney Trilogy.

    I always picture one lone Imperial Acclaimator patrolling the edge of the Outer Rim stocked with V-19s, LAATs and AT-TEs tasked with rounding up pirates, going for decades without upgrades to later star fighters or walkers. Their equipment would look more like patched up rebel stuff but after a while that crew would take pride that they still maintain their old vehicles. You could base a whole series of books on that, or an RPG campaign

Those things are just so tall, SPHA has to walked out of the ship before putting their main cannons onto them, and they are listed as 20 meters tall, the AT-AT is currently listed as 22 meters tall, so yeah the Acclaimator would have to be modified unless the AT-ATs could kind of crawl out with legs bent.

    Seems the Republic was big in to highly specialised multi-role ships: with its speed and landing ability the Acclamator was the perfect heavy duty invasion platform, whilst the Venator's carrying capacity and firepower output made it an unparalleled space superiority vessel. Put them together, you've got a fleet's worth of capability in just two classes of ship.

    • @KMCA779

      They needed a third. The Victory filled that role amazingly and was sadly the only one to survive long term, it even got a downgrade in the Victory II model under the Empire.
      Venator for a carrier able to defend itself and support the Victory doing the mainline combat with the Acclamator doing its troop thing while also being able to defend itself. The Arquetens playing the escort ship to round out the fights where Victories wouldn't be available. Honestly it would have been a winning fleet doctrine and the empire tossed it out the window for the ISD.

      @GreyKingZero 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@apolloknight9521 Well not all Empire ships. They have more types than the Republic. Both canon and not canon. The Republic could be better than them if their ships were more varied and numerous. Like a Super Star Destroyer for the Empire is really just a overpowered Star Destroyer, the Republic could have something similar for their fleet because the Empire was built over the Republic's foundation, like if the Empire wasn't created but an improved military was required. So based on what ships are involved I think the Republic would still be better due to them having ships able to handle various situations. The Republic is more balanced with their designs.

    • @demicus
      @demicus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Personal theory that I believe is that, since the Venator was slow coming out and the Acclamator II and Victory class ships were still on the drawing board, that some of the Acclamator I series were retrofit to hold additional gun batteries. After all, the Prosecutor we see in RC also has some colossal torpedo tubes that shame even other capitol ships of the era, something not seen on other versions of this ship.
      So I'd bet that the Republic hastily carved up a few of these ships, possibly ones that had to put in for repairs after Geonosis anyway, and turned them into discount battleships. Remove some of its troop and material carrying capacity in favor of many more turbolasers. Most of the shots seen in the game seem to be coming from the batteries at the rear, which is normal for that ship, and from the equatorial line of the wedge shape, where you could fit more guns without having to drastically alter the basic shape of the hull.
      Even in real life, WWII in particular which a lot of Star Wars is patterned after, old ships or even civilian ships found themselves coated in guns to protect shipping and supply lanes from U-boats and other roving vessels, or to supplement the newer ships that were in high demand.

    • @TheRezro
      @TheRezro 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@demicus It isn't much of theory. Some Acclimator actually were converted in proper carriers, so it do make sense that some also were refitted into makeshift warships. Especially as we do know that even Venator get additional armor and features. So it wasn't uncommon practice. Plus Lucrehulk in general was converted trade ship, so they features were even more uneven (so it could be bad underpowered variant).

    If I was a Rebel Officer, I’d find a way to steal/buy one of these and refurbish it. Not into a warship like the others, but as a tactical base.
    I’d convert the lower loading deck into a hanger-recovery bay-hybrid, and have it used to receive shipment of material, while the side hangars would be used for starfighter and freighter launches.
    With its speed and quick landing time, I would have rebel pilots perform hit and fade attacks, and only need to perform a single jump to the ship, which would then be able to outpace all possible pursuers.
    And while she wouldn’t match an ISD in combat, any Arquittens she ran across would be in for a good fight. Further, the large cargo space could be converted into a fighter construction and maintenance facility, to make new craft for the rebellion. Not only that, the size leaves room for storage, refineries, and numerous other facilities. We’d only need mole miners or raw materials, and new starfighters could be pumped out like clockwork.
    Post war, I’d keep her as my personal starfighter and freighter construction company: Arrowhead Limited, where I could continue producing craft for military purposes, and evade any attempt to steal my product.

If the LZ was too hot for the Acclamator to land then LAATs and Y-Wings could go in and secure it so the Acclamator could land and unload the troops and heavy units needed for the combat situation. Another underrated ship is the ARC-170 despite its size it was misused as a star fighter and should have acted as a dive bomber that can serve a star fighter role if necessary.

The Rebel could have used the bulk mover and mobile repair and command post. With Hyperspace capable fighters, it would have been an amazing lighting assault tool or a base that never needs to be abandoned because it can just run away under it's own power.

It would be simple matter of loading several thousand colonists in there with a Carbonite conversion for reduction in food store needs as well as being able to say rotate out crew.several of them would be able to act as support in terms of carrying extra fuel and just its overall very very effective ability. • @ZoeMalDoran
      @ZoeMalDoran 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @AKUJIRULE I always target the hangar first to try to make sure the enemy can't spawn a corvette to kill my bombers, and the "lucky" refers to only needing one massed volley of concussion missiles & proton torpedoes from each Acclamator to do the job. If you're unlucky, it takes more than one. Diverting power to weapons seems to remove the luck factor on the attack, but leaves your ships more vulnerable to counter-attack.

    _Kualt Drive Yards engineer having a secret meeting with Chancellor Palpatine_
    *Palpatine:* So tell me of your design proposals for the Acclamator class.
    *Engineer [Nervous]:* Well sir, as you know the Acclamator has a very large boarding ramp that leads straight into its cargo bays.
    So my concept is for roll on modules that can be simply wheeled in and installed to provide a series of additional roles as needed. They plug into ships systems and clamp onto bulkheads so they become part of the ship itself.
    It saves the effort of building individual variants and provides flexibility to adapt to changing demands - although I still recommend a dedicated line of heavy missile attack Raiders, although I have a work around for that.
    As well, being a roll on, roll off addition to a current ship it would not slow down production, and more importantly GAR commanders could not paint their ships to indicate what format they are currently configured as … a problem with the old school Brass I'm afraid who aren't used to the concept of total war.
    *Palpatine:* I agree, there are a lot of issues with the old order, we really do need a new order… New order? …. hmm, I like the sound of that, but it needs something?
    [Engineer looks confused]
    Oh nevermind, you were saying, what sort of modules do you have in mind?
    *Engineer:* All of these take advantage of the fact that the Acclamator is an incredibly fast ship sir, and has the advantage of the logistics of all using the same basic ship.
    Well medical bays, with the high speed it will allow quick evacuation and turn around of injured troops.
    Racks for non hyperdrive snub fighters.
    And the big one I'm most proud of, missile magazines that feed to the autoloaders of the missile tubes. They will allow a Acclamator to keep up a continuous missile barrage for hours, which could turn the tide of battle. That's why I wanted to design a special line with more launchers, but this is still a order of magnitude in firepower from the base layout. And in addition to this there's also proton bomb racks that can disperse through the secondary hatches. In fact both can be added to the same ship for a fast Raider to strike behind enemy lines doing hit and run attacks, dropping a massive load of ordinance on a target and getting out before the enemy can respond. Never underestimate the power of hit and fade sir, it can't do a knock out blow, but it can sap a fixed enemies strength and will over time.
    *Palpatine [slightly annoyed]:* Don't lecture me about long term planning…
    Still your designs are interesting, they could well end the war quickly if fully implement.
    Tell me, _who else_ have you told of your ideas? … …

    The bridge is a bit silly being above the hull. It would house the captain during battle, so the bridge surely would be better being inside the main hull, where it has more protection. Windows for starships seem... pointless. Sensors and cameras displaying video feeds on screen can do as good a job as windows. But being deep into the hull you can't breach the 'windows' as they dont exist. No risk of being flushed out into space ala Leia in Last Jedi. I dare say most captains wouldn't be able to use the force to fly back into the ship so... yea.

    • @sirboomsalot4902
      @sirboomsalot4902 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Actually, the Acclamator is one of the few ships to fix this issue. For some reason it wasn’t mentioned in this video, but the Acclamator would have all its bridges “windows” covered with armor and the crew could see using sensors, cameras, etc. Though personally I think having transparasteel windows has a good use; sensors can break or be destroyed, the MK1 eyeball has less of a prob some with that.

    • @Forscythe80
      @Forscythe80 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sirboomsalot4902 Interesting. Although I'd still put it in the centre of the much more massive hull with many layers of steel between incoming fire and the most important officers.
      At least lack of windows is a start. Too many instances of those windows--regardless of being transparent steel--being destroyed. The A-Wing went straight through.
      Small cameras would be harder to target, esp if there's many potential cameras. Maybe with that transparasteel for lenses. :D
      But either way, plot armour helps!

    To be honest, one thing you didn't touch on but got pretty close to is the sheer versatility of it, with the combined top speed of the acclamator you could (theoretically), use it to as a distraction on a blockaded world, CIS vessels would have had to split off to engage the ships, but would have been woefully unprepared for its weapon systems and tonnage in that fight, and if the separatists or any other faction wanted to base delta 0 them, they could also split off and make for a much harder target to hit as they could simply outrun most CIS capital ships, leaving them open for any escorting forces to come from behind and start shooting full force up their engines.

    I think the Acclamator would make a good planetary defense fleet ship in the post-Empire era. It's a very effective multi-role ship (being at least decent against capital ships and starfighters); has a good balance of firepower, durability and speed/maneuverability; is bigger than the average pirate ship but not so big that it's horribly expensive to crew or is a threat to other planets; its massive cargo/hanger capability gives it flexibility in mission profile and non-combat uses for peacetime; and the ability to land on the ground means that it can be serviced and repaired locally, even if the planet does not have an orbital spacedock. If I was a planetary leader who only had the budget to buy one ship for defense purposes, the Acclamator would be at the top of my list.

    @casbot71 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    At the *First battle of Geonosis* all that the GAR needed to do was dedicate a few Acclamators to heavy bomber roles… and load them up with _proton bombs !_
    Have their entire holds filled up with proton bombs, no troops (except for a couple to kick any bomb that got jammed in the mechanism to jar it loose) nothing else.
    They fly high over the massed droid armies *and* the _control ships,_ and just rain death.
    Basically map reference grids would become cratered wastelands - which has the added benifit that when later on Clones do clean up patrols of the area, they have cover.
    One Starfortress was able to drop enough ordinance to blow up a dreadnought in TLJ (okay they got a weak spot), comparing sizes one Acclamator could carry more proton bombs than the entire R̶e̶b̶e̶l̶ Resistance bomber squadron - they could probably carry the entire bomber squadron!
    It would have been a knock out blow.
    And later on, such ships would make devastating Raiders for other CIS faculties. And with their fast hyperdrives they could jump in as close to the planet as possible, do a bombing run, jump back to base and resupply quickly.
    The economy of the remaining CIS worlds could be destroyed by low orbit bombing if the GAR was willing to inflict a lot of collateral damage.
    Now consider a Acclamator loaded up with proton _missiles…_

So this ship would truly be a vessel which could duke it in out in space, in atmosphere, and lead an assault... by itself. Also imagine a Droid army in place of a clone one. You could carry probably 10x as many and thus have an entire army's worth in a single ship. Bring in a sister ship to carry all of the extra equipment and you've got a full army armed to the teeth in 2 ships that, if need be, can also pack up and reposition on the other side of the planet in about an hour. If you want a mobile army, this would be how you do it.

    After watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes New Thesis, I find a little flaw in the Republic and Empire ships, their landing gear, gravity isn't a loving mistress, and having huge ships like this land on land instead of bodies of water making them a huge liability and it show in the movies and in the Clone Wars, with their slow take offs, but if they were amphibious, the body of water would support their weight, making unnecessary the landing gear and making more easy the take off.

    People wonder how the clones were funded and authorized. Mine was mainly how the military tech was built with the restrictions on military grade weapons and vehicles was licensed and allowed to be built.

    So robust and reliable that even the Empire used them up to the final days where they eventually pumped out the Mk II Acclaimators.
