BT update For a while now I have wanted to find a suitable presenter to join me on BT. Finding someone with the right expertise and skills has not been easy. I have invited a new guest presenter Bassam Zawadi (MA Philosophy of Religion and Ethics, University of Leeds). He has produced some outstanding academic work and has collaborated with senior scholars in their published work. You can see his work here: independent.academia.edu/BassamZawadi My intention is in part to share the work of presenting Blogging Theology videos, partly to bring a fresh face and style to the channel. But I am continuing as normal insh Allah. Best wishes Paul
Excellent presentation, a really thorough discussion of an issue that is very important to me. I really enjoyed this from start to finish. Congratulations to you both!
I enjoyed the podcast & am thinking to purchase the book. The sound quality made it difficult to hear so there was lots of scrolling back and even then I only managed to get the gist
Personal opinion; Islam's vast coverage of issues concerning life and how to "best" live it together with the sheer devotion it demands make it more a totalitarian ideology than anything else so no, an authentic Islamic society that is committed to Islamic principles cannot be liberal, at least not our contemporary definition of liberalism. It can however be tolerant and enshrine in its constitution ideals that are shared by the liberal philosophical tradition, just not enforced or defined the exact same way.
basically, Islam cancels ou any other philosophical and ideological thought. HOWEVER, social aspects of liberalism as well as economic aspects of liberalism can exist in an Islamic society: such as the lack of centralized government, the greater power given to local communities who can organize in some sort of tribal and citizen structure with their local Qadis and sheikhs (like before the colonial era, people organized on their own and government was not as invasive as it is nowadays.)
In fact, in this earth there's no ideology could stand up against liberalism but Islam, Islam is the only religion that gave rational answers to humanity.
@@P1000H ok good, so please can you answer me rationality not emotionally the following questions that Islam answered rationality: 1- When Mary peace be upon her begate his baby peace be upon him, did she beget her God or her baby that had needed her in everything? 2- Can you put God's justice and the origin sin at the balance!? because if one is correct the other one not. 3- You believe that God came to earth as son of man to save you... ok what about those who were before him, weren't they concerned about this story!!? 4- In Matthew 27:39 "And He went a little farther, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “O My Father.." Only the Father and holly Spirit or the trinity creed has fallen at that time. In fact brother, if you want more I will give you more, but honestly believe me, no way to find rational answers to what I said to you in Christianity, if you want the truth you will find it in islam only because Muhammad came with the final testament after the Torah of Moses and the Injil of Jesus peace be upon them all. As a liberal (via Mises), who converted to Islam I find at our current state of the political world I find a more Libertarian approach to my politics and have kept Islam as my religion. I cannot wait to read this book and critically analyze Dr. Kaminski's premis.
Dr. Kaminski seems to focus on political liberalism and discourages compatibility. I am a Muslim who has become interested in economics. I have read some of Murray Rothbard's work. Imad-ad-Dean Ahmad (MFI) suggests Ibn Khaldun as the inspiration of Austrian style free market thought. I think there is a link there.
Dear Bother Bassam Zawadi: you are great and I pray you will be an ideal support to BT. One comment; please be merciful with non-English viewers from the Middle East (like me) and slow down while talking 😁😂😊
Dear Paul, it would be amazing if you could have a speaker who can talk about “Islamic solutions to crime”. The crime in our time is raising, and it would be great to know how Islam deals with crime
This whole thing was complete rubbish. 1. Most Christians are fundamentalists which is the opposite of liberalism. 2. Islam can't be compared and/or contrasted with a secular political philosophy. As Dr. Mobarak Ali stated, Islam "is independent and autonomous and does not need naked secular comparison to assess its merits or improve its tenets." 3. Liberalism actually predates the age of enlightenment. 4. No one can legislate or dictate Islamic Law except Allah.
1. Globally most people who identify as Christians are not fundamentalists in the sense that they use Christianity as a identifier, and do not try to practice the religion in any way religious/ritualistic way 2. Muslims should compare Islam to secular systems to learn and see the superiority of Islam. By comparing Islamic laws to modern banking as an example, we may see the merits of our laws against interest. 4. Humans should make laws, both for the embetterment of mankind and so Islam can be served by the people and vice-versa. We can't change Islam, but we must uphold it with law and community ethics
@@muhammadedwards8425 "Globally most people who identify as Christians are not fundamentalists" This is just simply Not true. Fundamentalism is an outgrowth of the Trinity doctrine and most Christians are Trinitarians or adhere to it in some other form.

A great step. Bassam is a very friendly face and seems to be expert in mediating a useful discussion.
Great move!
He’s blending in so well MashaAllah
A very welcomed change
I think they all need to use your “You’re very welcome sir” to begin the show to be allowed to present 😂
A 60% serious suggestion: Please start the podcasts with the line "Today, I am delighted to be joined by.... you're most welcome sir". 💚
😆
Yes, that is the absolute classic.
We missed you already brother Paul..
No up that to 100%.
Yep, its not blogging theology if you dont start with that😂
Mashallah brother paul grew some of his hair back
🤪🤡
The quality of the program is always high, and there is no disappointment. Thank you so much.👏👏
Bassam is a great co-host, and Joseph covered material which is very relevant to the current discourse.
My favorite podcast right now
May Allah Accept your works, and make it a means of acceptance and Guidance for the Ummah!
Listening again 2 months later - such an interesting topic & high quality speaker - please can you do anything to enhance or make the sound clearer??

I hope channel has expanded and needs to allow many experts to participate debates. Anyway, I hope Br William is around.

Akhi Paul, It would be a good idea to invite Roy Casagrande to talk about how Islam saved western civilisation?

Define Islam and Liberalism.
I don't see much chance of the two worldviews getting along.
I particularly like the ending - some of Islam's most implacable enemies became its greatest defenders inside of a generation
My simple answer: No.
this is the real matter
This is interesting, but Joseph's terminology is rather advanced. 🤔

:(
Paul converted so hard he became a Pakistani dude.
No. Let me save you 1 and half hour😂
I think you demonstrate on a near daily basis that, for you, the answer is no.

No.
