Seth I think you messed up the order you keep talking about how this is the final video but it’s actually the first one you uploaded. Unless I missed something
Run bolas citadel and a ton of other cards that let you pay life for effects and then give Greven life link and smash face every turn. Or fling him. Fling him good.....
Option 1: filter through whole deck for glint horn buccaneer. Win. Option 2 for when they destroy glint: filter through whole deck for garna the blood flame and get back glint. Repeat option 1 Option 3 you don’t have enough cards left in deck for glint to kill everyone: filter through you whole deck for garna the blood flame, bag of holding, shadow of the grave or inverter of truth. Repeat step one. Option 4 someone was mean and exiled glint before everyone dies and all you have left is lands: play the molten vortex you got following option 1 and throw your whole hand at the offending bullies face
I like Anje (Anja in German, so perhaps Anya pronounced in English), but was more focused on a Reanimator build under Chainer. After reading Tomers article and thinking about it, I want to build the Deck I started mtg with for Commander. So Madness Vampire Tribe, here I come
I mean yes, Madness abilities aren't super powerful, but the whole thing with Anje is that you get those effects for free anyway and thus them just adding support where it is needed for basically free (and I mean no minus in cards) is really nothing to sneeze at...
You've got it right the way Greven works. He doesn't GAIN +X/+0, he GETS plus +X/+0, which is a subtle but important distinction. It has to be templated the way it is to work as a static ability.
I think greven works like this : Greven attacks, it has menace so it's usually not blocked (even though it might be) so noone blocks greven, then you use a zombie infestation discarding two cards and putting a zombie, you sac the zombie and draw two cards losing two life and greven gets +2, repeat this until you onehit an enemy.
Not quite. Greven's sac ability is an on-attack trigger, so you can do it exactly once per combat (short of Strionic Resonator or something) and only during your declare attackers step.
@@MTGGoldfish sad. I thought perhaps he was rethinking his deck, cause most people in the comments wanted a combo build. But then I need to reread the article xD
Madness needed like 10 new cards with the mechanic that were good or better to be playable. Deck didn’t deliver. This will be stripped for parts or made into a rakdos reanimator under Chainer. WOTC needs to work on the NEW cards being on the deck’s theme. Is that too much to ask for?
The problem with madness is this: there are a lot of non madness related cards that makes you discard cards. So, imo, they wanted to avoid to create super strong cards designed for madness decks that would end up being played in non madness themed deck just because you could take advantage of that anyway. It's the same as flashback which is a mechanic that could be used in every deck. The populate and morph are different because in a non themed deck those cards are way worse. In fact the best decks among the pre cons are the sultai and naya while the jeskai and rakdos have more flaws. The problem with the last two years pre cons is that they want to avoid to create very solid decks intentionally to make the price skyrocket. Last year they pretty much failed doing so. This year decks are better but with a lot of bulk, unnecessary reprinted pw not useful at all in the decks (minus garruk maybe) and in two of them not a solid strategy.
Ah man, I know we are all used to mispronunciations from the channel, but jeeeez this is a hard video to get through! For a 37 minute video about Anje I hoped someone would have looked up how to say it XD
For greven the + x is permanent this was confirmed by gavin at gencon I foresee this commander rising in value in the future and is going to be very scary commander in our format
I doubt it since the wording is amount of life lost “this turn”. If it was a permanent buff it would be a terrible effect because then it’s just an etb trigger that you’d have one shot at using
The effect is permanent but the power of it changes each turn. You always get +X/+0 equal to the life lost each turn but it is static so every new turn the life loss resets.
GETS, not GAINS. It's a static ability that constantly checks how much life you've lost that turn. He permanently gets +X/+0, but the value of X resets with each new turn.
K’rrik is not really broken, he is good, be he does not draw you a single card or tutor anything, Sidisi, Undead Vizier is just better if you wanna win the game fast. You dont win the game just becouse Phyrexian Obliterator cost you 8 life instead of 4 mana, you dont even come close. Urza gives you a lot of mana, but atleast he has something to spend that mana on, unlike K’rrik.
Madness is made to be a tempo play (in general). Outside of 20 life 1v1, tempo is too insignificant. The fact that you can dig, for free, at instant speed, with haste is extremely powerful. It makes combo very consistent especially with Shadow of the Grave. Also Rootwalla is a very good card. I mean how many 1or 0 mana 3/3 do you know? Yes it costs 2 mana to activate but your opponent has to account for it each combat step while you don't have to use its ability if you have better plays in hand. It's one of the reasons why UG madness was so good (probably one of the best standard decks of all time) and why the newer versions of Wild Mongrel never caught on.
Good content guys. One card I like for a deck based around madness vampires is voldaren pariah. Flying is usually pretty good and if you flip her the 6/5 is no joke
Why the "o" and "a" sound? My guess would be "Ahn-Ye" with a short "e" at the end. Which would probably be close to how you pronounce it in German and a lot of the Innistrad names are kind of German-ish.
@@ankhi3585 The only thing that rivals it at its CMC is Tireless Tribe, even at 2 mana its strong. I really don't see anything bad with it. maybe because its been such a powerhouse in dredge for years. Its a really strong card. It also has a relevant creature type: Zombie.
@@GM-rs2fv their are two white cards with Madness. Those being Strength of Isolation and Frantic Purification. But those two cards don't matter. What I was hoping for was a legendary version of Confessor, so that a life gain matters/Discard themed deck would be possible

I keep thinking that the Commander videos don't have a specific order, but they do :)
Future videos incoming over the next few days! Sorry.
MTGGoldfish it’s definitely no problem the video was great regardless.

Run bolas citadel and a ton of other cards that let you pay life for effects and then give Greven life link and smash face every turn.

"Ahn - yuh" It's a real name lol
No mention of Balthor the Defiled in Chainer?
Discarding cards? That’s like the opposite of card draw! I fully expect Seth to give it a 0/10
But you also draw. Just discard Squee, Lightning Axe and Faithless Looting!
Currently building a Madness Vampire Deck, so relevant content FTW

No video for Merciless Rage this time (Tomer ran out of time to get it done before leaving for vacation). The article is helpful though!

This is exactly what I'm going to do.
Chainer and Sire of Insanity have been best buds in the last few game I've played.
If you dont want madness to be broken, dont print it in the same standard format as smugglers copter...
Madness didn't see any competitive standard play (Kaladesh era) did it? I thought Smugglers got banned quick.

Perfect "fake" commander for K'rrik is Sidisi. Tutors him and can tutor then again from command zone.
Damn I never saw Anje in the combo way but I’m sold!
Or, you could run the worldgorger combo with the bad madness cards to get it faster
I play Greven still

I Loathe that this is the odd one being 2 color, why madness? Why not do a more stronger ability? Unearth? Dash? Idk...
I don't know that Dash is better than Madness but Madness hasn't had an actual good commander for it.
And the deck itself is awesome. It might not be the best ability in vacuum, but they made one hell of a synergistic deck
I think Tomer misread K'rrik. He gets bigger for each black spell cast, not each life loss (I think you're mixing it up with Vilis)
Aeon Engine + Pull From Infinity Isochron Scepter + Academy Ruins = INFINITE TURNS (sort of)
Not sure if I can resist a madness commander deck...
right!? on paper its such a cool mechanic. but god wizards is so scared of printing broken cards that the mechanic gets next to no love.
K’rrik demons sounds nice hmmmmmmm
One of my pet cards is ichor slack (I probably should know it's name)
And it's a card with madness and cycling
Solid Time Spiral draft pick.
Not sure if Tomer was the best person to comment about Anje. He sounds like he's making the madness cards sound like trash.
he's just calling it like it is. when basking rootwalla is in the conversation for best madness card you know it's not a very strong mechanic

That could work too, I was just thinking an "ya" would sound better than a "ye" but hey, to each their own I suppose.
Id do a madness theme with a mix of resurrection like a Madness version of Nel Toth
Tomer saying Putrid Imp is bad... really?
Well except for the free discard outlet, in black, foor one mana the rest of the card is insignificant/bad. I think that's what he meant.
