Like Mitch says in the video, you’re overwhelmingly playing lots of madness cards just to turn Anje’s “draw a card” text into a rough approximation of demonic tutor - you should have no intention of ever casting 75%+ of them, even for their madness cost.

Built this deck with a slightly higher budget and i can assure that this is a great deck. usually going off on turn 4-6. There is some cards i still need to add to the list but Mitch's list will get you the win pretty consistently to.
Same, I played with the dragon for one night. Took the combo apart because it's stupid and my pod focused me whenever I played Anje for the next 3 months. Tried transforming the deck into a ping deck, with syr konrad, psychosis crawler and glinthorn buccaneer. Didn't work, playgroup is really creature heavy while I mostly have Anje and another shit creature on the battlefield. So yeah, shit experience and not that many good memories when playing this deck
Yea, I hate these kind of generic combos. Kind of disapointed mitch is putting g more of them in his deck. This deck didnt even feel focused of built around anje, just need her to draw the combo. Go buy some tutor and play cedh.
i bought the pre-con, really tried to have fun with anje but everytime i won, chainer basically carried the game so i ended up choosing him as the commander and having way more fun

I love Anya I have her and I have her mostly upgraded I will definitely be comparing what I have to your list to see if there's any changes I can make also if you want to add a third reanimation spelled just a little more expensive and hard to find you can add necromancy
Anyone know how you should try to win after doomsdaying with this deck? I was surprised when I saw doomsday and want to try out this deck tomorrow with my play group.
To win after Doomsday you need 1 Madness Card in Hand, Anje on the field and 2 Mana, with at least 1 Black available. The Pile is: Worldgorger Dragon Animate Dead/Dance of Dead Avacyns Judgement/Bloodhall Priest The rest doesn´t really matter. You then have to activate Anje, discarding the Madness Card, untapping and drawing Worldgorger. Then discard Worldgorger, drawing the Animate Dead. Then you go from there, making infinite Mana, drawing Avacyns Judgement and kill everyone. With More Madness Cards you can also start with only the one Black mana, you´ll just need to add a Dark Ritual to the pile. To win with Bloodhall Priest you need to Reanimate something else after making infinite Mana with Worldgorger, then cast the rest of your stuff and restart the loop with another Animate Dead effect with Bloodhall Priest on the field.

Huh. I'm not much of a Johnny player, so this strategy never occured to me. Looks fun, for the first few plays. Seems rather linear, rummage into a win-con, shuffle up, repeat. That said, I'm not too happy with my current Rakdos deck, so I'll probably just build this one until I get around to making my Greven deck for the Rakdos slot. Because it will be fun for the few times I bring it out of my 25 deck pile.
I know you try to keep your reasonable upgrades at 10$ or less, but necromancy is an instant speed animate dead for one mana more that is just barely more expensive than that budget

I love Syr Konrad in here! Combine him with Basalt Monolith and Mesmeric Orb, make sure you have a shuffle Eldrazi in your deck, then mill yourself infinitely and deal infinite damage!
I was really hoping that this was going to be a Hellbent deck. A deck meant to be played with no cards in hand, and forcing your opponents to play the same.
That's what I did with my build! I made the discard effects symmetrical, and used cards like he talked about here to recur them back to my hand. Sire of Insanity is a quick way to lose friends.

Anje's precon was probably the weakest of the four, so investing money into it is a bad idea. However, Anje herself is probably the strongest of all 16 new commanders from that set, but only if you use her correctly, which the precon didn't too well (honestly, the precon looked more built around Chainer)
Thank you for this deck tech, both because it’s incredibly cool and because it taught me that Bag of Holding and Madness can actually interact favorably because (so long as you didn’t cast the Madness card and you resolve Madness first) the Bag can track the discarded Madness card after moving to grave and re-exile it
I was thinking it would be nice to have a decklist that only has Mitch's deck tech minus the cards that are shared with the precon, so you can buy only the cards that you're missing. But the cards that are shared between the two decks is only like $10 worth of cards. So if you have the precon and want to build this deck, it's almost pointless to worry about since the price difference between buying doubles and not is almost negligible. Fun to note tho, if you skip out on the worldgorger combo, you immediately bring the price of the cards needed to upgrade the precon down by around half.If you further skip out on some of the "win fast" cards, you can get down to around 10 bucks (before shipping). Which I figure, while it probably isn't nearly as powerful as Mitch's final decklist, is already quite an upgrade over the standard precon.

@@ruijptome Library of Leng does NOT go infinite. It says "if an *effect* would cause you to discard a card..." but discarding a card to Anje is a *cost* , not an effect.
I play a similar build to this as my only CEDH deck and I would not recommend it at all for beginners. It has almost no board interaction and is very unintuitive. I lent it to a relatively new player once and he was completely lost. I'd build it more as a reanimator deck with some big black creatures and anje to fill your graveyard and keep your hand full

I think the turn to when would involve doomsday because you need to be able to cast Anya which is one black red then you need to cast doomsday for free black so that is 6 Mana total you would then activate Anya to pitch worldgorger dragon and then you would need two more Mana colorless and Black 2 cast animate dead and begin the loop
You just need a black source and a red source as well as either having the combo or being able to draw into the combo and also dark ritual. t1 Play land t2 Play land and tap the black source to cast ritual. Cast anje with 1 black floating, cycle through your deck and draw into one of your rituals, then cast it to be able to cast animate dead or dance of the dead. If you have cabal ritual you have to cast it before you go off and if you have songs of the damned you have to have at least two creatures in your gy.
Madness is such an interesting mechanic to me but I really dislike the infinite combo that everyone runs with Anje due to lack of a better wincon. Seems like the infinite combo that everyone and their mother run with atla palani and mirror entity. EDH decks that depende on such a wincon are very boring to me, even though I had hopes for this commander.
agreed, then again rakdos is not the optimal colour to win with in multiplayer... but yeah, wish there was a good, reliable wincon besides that combo when playing Anje
You can build her as a reanimate commander pretty well, Except everyone runs graveyard hate so it takes alot of the fun out of those decks. Not enough good madness cards to really play off madness so your really just using her as a card draw/discard engine.
Just gonna say it, even though probably no one will see this comment and/or listen to it, but you're missing a couple of things here. 1. Anje doesn't really care about lands, since once you have her out, she can ensure you hit every land drop from that turn onward, so 32 lands is better than 34 2. Every Anje deck should have the following: Street Wraith, and Squee Goblin Nabob. Street Wraith is essentially an extra madness card with the cost of 2 life (nothing in commander), and Squee is discard fodder that can be used over and over again, kind of like the Bloodghast of discard decks. Other than that, solid deck tech. I prefer the non-dragon route (just winning with Glint-Horn and friends), but no mistake, Anje is a broken as hell commander. If you enjoy fast, combo-y decks that can just go off in a single turn, trust me, Anje is the commander for you, and this a great starting point for just $50 (the only upgrade's I'd make are on the mana-base and ramp, otherwise, the deck's essentially ready for CEDH).
So, effectively you use Anje and madness cards to turn the 100 card deck into a much smaller number of cards. Great for really trying to nail down your strategy consistently! “Hi, this is my 10 card commander deck!” “But you have 100 cards?” “No, I have 10 cards and 90 meaningless cards to sift through to find those 10!”
2 the deck is built around 2 cards and anje is just there to get eaten by a world gorger. Shes basically just an entomb. What next a deck tech with sushi hulk. I always liked mitch's decks because they were focused, felt like they were built around the commander and this is definetly not that.
Some good cards for the infinite combo at the end are Trial of Zeal as it does 3 damage when entering the battle field and Gray Merchant of Asphodel(Gary). Massacre girl is a board wipe at that point and Overseer of the damned just kinda murders the whole board. Eldest reborn also wipes the board. Just a few decent options to use with this deck as a long time Anje player.
Can you also recommend some wincon for the final infinite mana combo? I know infinite mana can do a lot but I dont know enough cards to make use of that mana
@@tomyang1117 some cards are damnable pact, fireball, and volcanic eruption. Fireball can kill all players at once while damnable pact and volcanic eruption can only kill 1 at a time

Awesome video! Thank you! I tinker with Anje's precon, so this helps with ideas (although I don't run the infinite combo). Bog Witch is a nice on-theme ramp addition. I put Arc Mage in, too, but that's just for fun =D
ANJE! My favorite! She can be budget, and still be brutally fast to win, if that's what you're going for. She's so unique in how she wins, too, even when using Worldgorger combo! I didn't even use Worldgorger, originally. I had a wonky 3-4 card combo that would mill me infinitely (yes, infinitely), and leverage that mill into damage for the win. Had fun building that, and later upped her to Worldgorger. Still, mostly budget, even at cEDH level, and lots of fun to discover and play! (I still keep the wonky combo in for fun and more casual play!)
If you have Archfeind of Ifnir or Gilthorn Buccaneer out and want an infinite discard combo, Library of Leng + Anje + any madness card will get you there and is definitely in budget.
OMG THANK YOU. Since C19 launch I've been trying to build a rummage Anje deck, and although I have almost all the pieces you showed in this video, I was missing some grave returns and the dragon animate dead combo. This video will SURELY pump up my deck's effectiveness by a lot.
Anje was my very first commander deck and I’ve cherished it ever since. I was really happy to see that the worldgorger combo was the combo for the deck as I’ve had that since almost day one. Couldn’t think of a better video for my 5000th like lol
...another card to swap out for this deck would be Garna, the Bloodflame...and replace him with... Chainer, Nightmare Adept(possessed Simon Belmont *running joke*), or Obosh, the Preypiercer... while neither one has madness... I feel that either one these two could be a threat on their own, throwing a curve-ball into any match ... 1v1 or multiplayer. But hey, these are just my thoughts.
This deck is only good for cEDH - you can only win with it, but not while playing fun and interactive game. The point of this commander is to make your deck have less cards, so you can more consistently pull off dragon combo. Couldn’t think of any less exciting.
Why not be more budget and add Library of Leng to combo off with Glint-Horn Buccaneer or Psychosis Crawler and have a "instawin"? With Bone Miser you can make infinite zombies and win with that too.

What about the card library of leng it’s a cheap card that with your commander you can infinitely loop drawing the same card over and over getting allowing for infinite discard or draw triggers with psychosis crawler or bonemiser

You can ping your opponents to death with the dragon/animate dead combo if you have the Sunscorched land on the battlefield. Idk if you mentionned it on the video, if so, sry for not listening enough to your stuff XD Good video, and that show how broken Anje is!
Thanks for teaching me that Bag of Holding and Madness actually works. Anje is one of my best commanders. I run her as a every turn board wipe deck with Archfiend of Ifnir and Massacre Girl.
Problem with this commander is that she’s a one-trick pony - Worldgorger combo is basically the only way to play it well, so people can see it coming and know exactly what/when to counter.
I remember seeing another strategy for infinite mana involving dakmor salvage and dread and hostility, but I cant find the video again. Anyone knows the link or the strategy?

I have a rakdos anje discard, reanimate demigod of revenge deck that just straight up one shots people lol. I also have reanimate targets like ashen rider and terastodon in it that I never cast.

I have this exact commander and was looking for an optimised build for this deck as I seem to lose quite a bit due to not having quite the optimised build. Now that I have this video I should be able to optimise my deck a little bit more so that it might be able to increase in win rate thanks for the great video.
I'm holding out for the day we can play a Madness deck where you want to ramp hard and cast those Madness cards... but we're still waiting on enough good enough cards to make the deck, and probably will be for a while. :(
I don't know how to feel about these commanders that are entirely built around a combo. It's the same with Prime Speaker Vanifar: you got your one combo and at some point of the game it goes of and might win. That might be strong but its the same thing everytime all over again. I don't know how often I could play such a deck actually enyoying it. For me the most exiting things about commander are these 100-card-toolboxes packed with lots of crazy interactions and mechanics. No game is like another one. But here... 🤔
I was a little surprised Bone Miser wasn’t the golden pig, until you got to the combo! That card is sooooo useful with Anje. I have her and love her and got some great ideas from this video! Also 10/10 for not making her stupidly oppressive (minus the one combo)
Don’t be surprised - you have just a few cards that benefit from discard and still need few turns to do some real damage. It’s just a matter of one board wipe to shut this deck for good. This is of course unless you plan to win with infinite combo, which isn’t fun for anybody (at least in casual EDH).

Fun to note tho, if you skip out on the worldgorger combo, you immediately bring the price of the cards needed to upgrade the precon down by around half.If you further skip out on some of the "win fast" cards, you can get down to around 10 bucks (before shipping). Which I figure, while it probably isn't nearly as powerful as Mitch's final decklist, is already quite an upgrade over the standard precon.
I have a anje Madness rakdos, spectacle deck thats preforming pretty well.
Thanks for making this episode. I've been teaching my wife how to play and bought her the Anje precon so this will help us both when it comes to her learning and me to get some good upgrades
Get a library of leng it GOES Infinite and it costs only Two dollars
@@ruijptome Library of Leng does NOT go infinite. It says "if an *effect* would cause you to discard a card..." but discarding a card to Anje is a *cost* , not an effect.
I play a similar build to this as my only CEDH deck and I would not recommend it at all for beginners. It has almost no board interaction and is very unintuitive. I lent it to a relatively new player once and he was completely lost. I'd build it more as a reanimator deck with some big black creatures and anje to fill your graveyard and keep your hand full

can we get a follow up vid outlining exactly what the perfect hand is for the turn 2 win AND also how the deck would use doomsday if that was adding in, per the reasonable upgrades?
For doomsday, your pile would be the WGD combo and infinite mana outlet, or perhaps the desert and WGD combo to just infinitely ping.
I think the turn to when would involve doomsday because you need to be able to cast Anya which is one black red then you need to cast doomsday for free black so that is 6 Mana total you would then activate Anya to pitch worldgorger dragon and then you would need two more Mana colorless and Black 2 cast animate dead and begin the loop
You just need a black source and a red source as well as either having the combo or being able to draw into the combo and also dark ritual.
t1 Play land
t2 Play land and tap the black source to cast ritual. Cast anje with 1 black floating, cycle through your deck and draw into one of your rituals, then cast it to be able to cast animate dead or dance of the dead. If you have cabal ritual you have to cast it before you go off and if you have songs of the damned you have to have at least two creatures in your gy.
Madness is such an interesting mechanic to me but I really dislike the infinite combo that everyone runs with Anje due to lack of a better wincon. Seems like the infinite combo that everyone and their mother run with atla palani and mirror entity. EDH decks that depende on such a wincon are very boring to me, even though I had hopes for this commander.
agreed, then again rakdos is not the optimal colour to win with in multiplayer... but yeah, wish there was a good, reliable wincon besides that combo when playing Anje
You can build her as a reanimate commander pretty well, Except everyone runs graveyard hate so it takes alot of the fun out of those decks. Not enough good madness cards to really play off madness so your really just using her as a card draw/discard engine.
Just gonna say it, even though probably no one will see this comment and/or listen to it, but you're missing a couple of things here.
1. Anje doesn't really care about lands, since once you have her out, she can ensure you hit every land drop from that turn onward, so 32 lands is better than 34
2. Every Anje deck should have the following: Street Wraith, and Squee Goblin Nabob. Street Wraith is essentially an extra madness card with the cost of 2 life (nothing in commander), and Squee is discard fodder that can be used over and over again, kind of like the Bloodghast of discard decks.
Other than that, solid deck tech. I prefer the non-dragon route (just winning with Glint-Horn and friends), but no mistake, Anje is a broken as hell commander. If you enjoy fast, combo-y decks that can just go off in a single turn, trust me, Anje is the commander for you, and this a great starting point for just $50 (the only upgrade's I'd make are on the mana-base and ramp, otherwise, the deck's essentially ready for CEDH).
I like how she plays but I want to avoid any infinite combos, should I still consider building her for our playgroup?
There was another strategy involving dread, hostility and dakmor salvage plus a fourth card I cant remember for the life of me. Do you know of it?
So, effectively you use Anje and madness cards to turn the 100 card deck into a much smaller number of cards. Great for really trying to nail down your strategy consistently!

“No, I have 10 cards and 90 meaningless cards to sift through to find those 10!”
2 the deck is built around 2 cards and anje is just there to get eaten by a world gorger. Shes basically just an entomb.
What next a deck tech with sushi hulk. I always liked mitch's decks because they were focused, felt like they were built around the commander and this is definetly not that.

Some good cards for the infinite combo at the end are Trial of Zeal as it does 3 damage when entering the battle field and Gray Merchant of Asphodel(Gary). Massacre girl is a board wipe at that point and Overseer of the damned just kinda murders the whole board. Eldest reborn also wipes the board. Just a few decent options to use with this deck as a long time Anje player.
Can you also recommend some wincon for the final infinite mana combo? I know infinite mana can do a lot but I dont know enough cards to make use of that mana
@@tomyang1117 some cards are damnable pact, fireball, and volcanic eruption. Fireball can kill all players at once while damnable pact and volcanic eruption can only kill 1 at a time

Awesome video! Thank you! I tinker with Anje's precon, so this helps with ideas (although I don't run the infinite combo). Bog Witch is a nice on-theme ramp addition. I put Arc Mage in, too, but that's just for fun =D
ANJE! My favorite! She can be budget, and still be brutally fast to win, if that's what you're going for. She's so unique in how she wins, too, even when using Worldgorger combo!
I didn't even use Worldgorger, originally. I had a wonky 3-4 card combo that would mill me infinitely (yes, infinitely), and leverage that mill into damage for the win. Had fun building that, and later upped her to Worldgorger. Still, mostly budget, even at cEDH level, and lots of fun to discover and play! (I still keep the wonky combo in for fun and more casual play!)

If you have Archfeind of Ifnir or Gilthorn Buccaneer out and want an infinite discard combo, Library of Leng + Anje + any madness card will get you there and is definitely in budget.
Library of Leng doesn't work since the discard is a cost, not an effect :(
OMG THANK YOU. Since C19 launch I've been trying to build a rummage Anje deck, and although I have almost all the pieces you showed in this video, I was missing some grave returns and the dragon animate dead combo. This video will SURELY pump up my deck's effectiveness by a lot.
Anje was my very first commander deck and I’ve cherished it ever since. I was really happy to see that the worldgorger combo was the combo for the deck as I’ve had that since almost day one. Couldn’t think of a better video for my 5000th like lol
you could add blood pet and skirk prospector to help bring out anje on turn 2 and sarkahn's triumph and shred memory to tutor for the combo pieces
...another card to swap out for this deck would be Garna, the Bloodflame...and replace him with... Chainer, Nightmare Adept(possessed Simon Belmont *running joke*), or Obosh, the Preypiercer... while neither one has madness... I feel that either one these two could be a threat on their own, throwing a curve-ball into any match ... 1v1 or multiplayer. But hey, these are just my thoughts.
This deck is only good for cEDH - you can only win with it, but not while playing fun and interactive game.
The point of this commander is to make your deck have less cards, so you can more consistently pull off dragon combo. Couldn’t think of any less exciting.
Why not be more budget and add Library of Leng to combo off with Glint-Horn Buccaneer or Psychosis Crawler and have a "instawin"? With Bone Miser you can make infinite zombies and win with that too.
Doesn't work. Look at the rulings for Library of Leng. 10/4/2004: "You can't use the Library of Leng ability to place a discarded card on top of your library when you discard a card as a cost, because costs aren't effects."

I recommend necropotence for this deck too, keeps 7 cards in your hand, perfect for digging to your win con.
Doomsday is fun way to set up the WG/AD combo.
What about the card library of leng it’s a cheap card that with your commander you can infinitely loop drawing the same card over and over getting allowing for infinite discard or draw triggers with psychosis crawler or bonemiser

You can ping your opponents to death with the dragon/animate dead combo if you have the Sunscorched land on the battlefield.

Anje is one of my best commanders. I run her as a every turn board wipe deck with Archfiend of Ifnir and Massacre Girl.
Problem with this commander is that she’s a one-trick pony - Worldgorger combo is basically the only way to play it well, so people can see it coming and know exactly what/when to counter.
I remember seeing another strategy for infinite mana involving dakmor salvage and dread and hostility, but I cant find the video again. Anyone knows the link or the strategy?

I have a rakdos anje discard, reanimate demigod of revenge deck that just straight up one shots people lol. I also have reanimate targets like ashen rider and terastodon in it that I never cast.
Here I was hoping I'd get a different take then the worldgorger dragon combo that is the staple for Anje decks that makes it so boring. Oh well.
I have a similar build but I found hand disruption is needed. I don’t go for the combo without removing counter spells from hands.
I bought the Anje precon and play it strictly as madness, it's a ton of fun. This gives me some ideas to make it possibly better
Might be a deck worth including that black enchantment that lets you win if you have 20 or more creatures in the graveyard.

I have this exact commander and was looking for an optimised build for this deck as I seem to lose quite a bit due to not having quite the optimised build. Now that I have this video I should be able to optimise my deck a little bit more so that it might be able to increase in win rate thanks for the great video.

I'm holding out for the day we can play a Madness deck where you want to ramp hard and cast those Madness cards... but we're still waiting on enough good enough cards to make the deck, and probably will be for a while. :(
There is only one rare with madness ever printed it's purely a limited mechanic.
Alhammarret's Archive is also a nice card to have as an upgrade option. With Anje you can pretty much draw your entire deck.

I don't know how to feel about these commanders that are entirely built around a combo. It's the same with Prime Speaker Vanifar: you got your one combo and at some point of the game it goes of and might win. That might be strong but its the same thing everytime all over again. I don't know how often I could play such a deck actually enyoying it. For me the most exiting things about commander are these 100-card-toolboxes packed with lots of crazy interactions and mechanics. No game is like another one. But here... 🤔
Once, my korvold has a number of combos that I actually discovered, and still I've only played the deck twice.
I was a little surprised Bone Miser wasn’t the golden pig, until you got to the combo! That card is sooooo useful with Anje. I have her and love her and got some great ideas from this video!
Also 10/10 for not making her stupidly oppressive (minus the one combo)
Don’t be surprised - you have just a few cards that benefit from discard and still need few turns to do some real damage. It’s just a matter of one board wipe to shut this deck for good.
This is of course unless you plan to win with infinite combo, which isn’t fun for anybody (at least in casual EDH).
