  • It is a terrible time to buy a motorcycle! It used to be new motorcycles lost 20% of their value when you rode them off the lot. Now they lose 50%!

The new bike market is thriving, that's what's happening. Like you said, given enough time, the situation will change. Enjoy what you got.

Covid started the dealers high (even over) MSRP prices. That drove used to unprecedented prices. They are mostly back to MSRP now, but its gonna take some hard times to get things bact to the way they were 5 years ago...

It's the supply and demand with variables. Free COVID money created high demand and because of covid creating lower working conditions supply became an issue that dragged on. With low supply dearlers started add ons. Then inflation showed it's head adding to the situation allowing used market to sell just below retail. It looks as buyers are slowing but new and used seller's are slow to come down. Supply in dearlers is up and financing being more expensive looks like things could possibly become better for we motorcycle addicts, time will tell😢

Doesn’t help a “new motorcycle“ addict like myself, but good analysis and hopefully a little patience here will be rewarded. Thanks.

Sell and buy private, all your bikes are great bikes but dealers don't want them as they have to offer warranties etc so have to have a big mark-up. There are loads of Royal Enfield's available here in the UK on the 2nd hand market and to make things worse there are more bikes entering the Market i.e. The new Triumph 400 singles are coming so it will only get worse for the RE 2nd hand prices. Just keep them and love them and stop buying new you're just losing a fortune in servicing costs, tax , depreciation etc. I only have 2 bikes a Honda cx500 1978 & a Moto Guzzi Bellagio 2007, I don't feel the need to buy anything newer. To be honest when I try new bikes I find them sole less and much prefer the character of my old bikes. In the current economic market it pays to keep your Bike and Car and keep away from the stealerships!

Very wise words my friend. I’m battling my “new bike” addiction. So far so good!

@@QuentinsMotoVlogI’m battling mine by buying maybe a ktm 390 duke or one of those husqvarna you got. The idea being they are super affordable and super fun. But it looks like I good get new out the door for $6000 ish or used clean for what looks like $$3500 to $4500. I want to go used, but new with no issues sound good. It’s tuff, used usually means some additional fixes etc.

Did you say you got a new svartpilen for $5000 out the door and that’s with all costs involved? I’m finding $6700 and think I could get $6000. May be in February I could get $5500 as the new ones come out.

Did I say $5000? I think you’re right: it was a bit over $6000 otd. Here in South Carolina I find if I add $1500 to the advertised price, that pretty accurately gives me otd with taxes, fees, registration, etc.

@@QuentinsMotoVlog thanks. Yeah that makes sense. A little over $6000 is good. Do you find you want more road tires for it. For when you hit the twisties or are the stock tires ok to lean?

@@michaelrieser9928 I find the stock tires to be really good in the twisties. Put it this way: the lean as much as I want to lean! The rear tire is wearing pretty quickly. 3700 miles on it and they still have a couple thousand to go but I can certainly see the wear. I will replace with something more road biased when it’s time to replace. Thanks.
