Good work Alex, when you run any engine hot, it will cause damage. These days with all aluminum heads, blocks, not to mention all the plastic parts, they can't take the heat. If your car runs hot, pull it over and call the tow truck, don't keep going. The old engines could take a little bit more, but running them hot will ruin them too. Oh, and Alex, being the Doctor, that is not a fan in the water pump, it's an impeller. Just had to pick on ya. Good video
yes Alex guys like you and me will pick up on a problem before big damage is caused, most people will just drive it until it stops, I was driving my wifes car last week smelled hot brakes getting out checked all the rotors with my lazer thermometer, right rear rotor 160, lr 650, but all I had to replace was the caliper, brakes were new, if she was driving it would have been rotors and pads too
God blessed u and ur family brotha I thank The Lord for giving u the Wisdom and having a humble heart for the PpL. May the Lord keep blessing u with more knowledge and remember God Loves you man
So the waterpump leaked and they kept driving it on low coolant and it overheated. So manufacturers don't put coolant level sensors in their vehicles but instead put a windshield washer sensor!? Alex, make it make sense!
@@MrXyzasdf True. My windshield washer notice comes up when it's half full. Your engine temp is basically your guide but I always thought your car should light up or beep if you start to overheat. We are not always looking at the gauge.
Yes I agree, start with a combustion leak tester. A lot of times I do see those Pentastar engines with cracked heads. I had a feeling that was going to be the case with this Durango. Since it tested positive, I guess it's time to let the customer know right away and chances are they won't have you go any further. Or maybe they will. I guess we'll just wait and see.
Gen 3 pennastar 3.6 has updated rockers and appears to fixed the problem we shall see . The gen 3 in wranglers 2022and up have a new oil cooler which instead of having the standard two oil sensors one for temp and one for pressure they combine it into one sensor one plug the one hole on the new coolers . And as all 2018 and up the coolers coming from mopar have the 22.3mm oil inlet tube o ring as the old one is 23mm
The mopar king back at it again. Is there a reason why so many people bring their mopar vehicles to you? Is it just because they break a lot that we see them in all the videos?
No, unfortunately Fiat Chrysler didn’t offer the 2nd generation Pentastar that had the upgrade to the valve train for the Charger lineup. If you research the Pentastar engine on Wikipedia, you’ll see that all the way up until 2023, nearly ALL Dodge vehicles carried the 1st generation Pentastar, which were notoriously famous for lifter and cam failure. There appears to be a class action lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler regarding the crappy valve train design for this 1st gen Pentastar. Just to confirm this, I own a 2019 Grand Caravan GT and the Pentastar under the hood DOES NOT have the cooled EGR system, which was part of the Pentastar upgrade. So, sadly, Alex, your customer’s Charger has the problematic version of the 3.6. Hope this was helpful. Maybe one day soon when I get up to Georgia, I’ll have you take a look at my van just to make sure everything is on point.
@@AlexTheCarDoctoralso, you may not be aware, so this may be beneficial to you in properly informing your customers, Dodge did make a better version of the lifters for these Pentastar engines. I can’t recall the part number, but it does supersede the original. I believe the newer Pentastar engines (I would guess after 2018, but I’m not positive) may have been manufactured with the revised lifters so lifter issues with 2019 and newer Pentastars seem to be less frequent. My Pentastar has almost 160,000 on it and these miles were accumulated rather quickly, but with proper maintenance and regular oil changes, I really haven’t been given any bad report on the engine. Hope this information will be useful to you, if nothing more than educating the customer at the time of repairs. Good luck, Pentastar Daddy, be blessed.
2016 Chrysler 200 Limited with the dreaded 3.6 here….I have oil in my coolant reservoir which caused a really thick milky substance but there is no coolant in the oil. It did run hot and I immediately pulled over and had it towed home. Should I just remove the reservoir to clean it and also drain the rest of the coolant and oil and replace the oil cooler? Or should I clean the reservoir/drain coolant and refill and do the block test to make sure it’s not a head issue? The oil cooler, to my knowledge as I have only had the car a year, has never been replaced. Thanks in advance!
You start with the cheapest part to replace if you're a Diy'er... If that doesn't work take it to professionals... Only reason I'm saying this is because I'm a Diy'er and replaced my thermostat with a 180° degree and haven't any issues since and I'm 236,000+ with a tuned 3.6 engine and trans still running stong

@@AlexTheCarDoctor I get it. I'm a DIYer and don't want to pay for more tools than I absolutely need. Can't even bring myself to buy a Quickjak system even though it would make repairs so much easier.
No stellantis fiat HAS NOT fixed the lash adjuster(lifter), roller rocker issues on the pentastar just less common as they redesigned the lifter to be dual stage since the new gen pentastar has VVL. I’ve done my fair share of lifters and rockers as a cdjr tech😅.
Do modern cars shut down when the temperature gauge starts climbing to in the red H (hot)? You would think so but maybe not car manufacturers maybe want you to burn and destroy your engine
a head gasket is still waaaaay cheaper than a new car. if the rest of the car is good and it looks like it, the repair would be worth it. if a person can do the work themselves and only have to pay for parts, even better yet. i replace the front suspension on my wifes 2012 ford escape last year and this past winter did the oil pan, timing cover, intake and valve cover gaskets in one shot. i couldnt imagine what a shop would charge for that but she loves her car and its in great shape so it was worth the time and parts for me. you know what they say...happy wife..happy life!!!! the other nice thing about doing your own work is if you see something on the way in that looks suspect, change it on the way out. one less thing later on down the road.
IDK, but I have COOKED HEADS for minutes and no head gasket issues 2002 and 2005 Q45 and 2002 I35) On the highway with a blown coolant hose and throwing it in neutral and shut it off doing 80 to let it roll and cooldown so I can start it back and run it back hot which takes like 30 seconds. I get a new hose and swap it out on the spot and never no issues. Had my I35 get so hot it shot out the oil pan drain bolt doing 70mph on the highway and it had no coolant either. Friend came with a new drain bolt, coolant and oil and the thing ran fine around 150K. Maybe I am just lucky 😂😂😂
What if you took it to a shop and they change thermostat but truck goes to half way mark fans come on and it sit at half way for no more then 5 mins then goes to normal operation temp would that be a head
Congratulations on 50k !!!!!!

I think it’s the videos! 🤔 but they break or are often neglected really.
How much would it cost for you to swap a 3.6 engine. Just the indtall if you already have the engine?
It looks like Fiat/Stellantis/Chrysler’s engineers wanted to make sure mechanics used all of the socket sizes in your tool box!
😂 I know right!
The challengers and chargers don't get the new pentastar upgrades with the EGR cooler etc. for some reason.
😳 for real???? I wonder what’s up with that???
I’m interested in overheating issues in Durangos. Since my dealership has issues in diagnosing this problem 😂
It's because you have a dodge
They don't have issues diagnosing the problems they just lie and want people to buy new engines and transmissions for minor issues
I think you need to change dealer if that can't diagnose a simple headgasket failure
You need a new mechanic
