Thats really cool you let the guys work on their stuff on saturdays. I remember years ago when I worked in a shop if we weren’t busy we could do something similar. Awesome perk!
yes it means a lot, those guys buy their own tools and should be able to work on their cars when the shop is closed, a long time ago I had a drag car(67 camaro) and worked at a cadillac dealer, they let me store it in the lower body shop and let me work on it on weekends, and gave me keys to everything, I worked a lot harder for them and would work the service desk if someone called off, as a flat rate mechanic I did that for free, but finding a place for the race car would cost a lot, it is just a matter of trust
Hi Alex In my opinion your wife is right you have the engine out it would only take a couple hours to change those head gaskets with 180000 miles it’s a no brainer ask yourself would you rather change them with the engine in the van or on a engine stand then you know everything is resealed and good to go love your channel ❤❤
Awesome content and great thumbnail picture. Cool you let the guys work on stuff on the weekends I’m sure they appreciate it! Those longtube headers gonna go crazyyyy.
@@AlexTheCarDoctor I think I figured why my spark plug is getting oil on it for my cylinder 3 (hoping not piston rings). the rubber gaskets under the rocker valve assembly look kinda crispy, lol. So i'm going to attempt replacing those and the valve stem seals. I ordered new valve springs just while i'm in there. So it will be a first for all of that. waiting on parts now :(. So going to replace those rocker assembly rubber gaskets, valve stem seals, tube seals, and valve cover gasket. Then see if my problem goes away. If that doesn't fix it, then I guess I will learn how to replace piston rings and rod bearings, lol.
He seems like a really nice guy, for some reason I get the feeling that he could take engines apart, but when everything goes back together, your going to be missing some nuts and bolts or noises not heard before.
Facts Alex is the master. Years ago he broke down my Versa to change the heater coil. Parts nuts bolts everywhere. When completed you would think it came from the factory.
us car guys just think that way, that van is going to run the way Alex wants it to run, not the way GM wants it to run, all de tuned to cut down on warranty repairs, it will probably get better fuel economy too
I dont believe your gonna put all that back together without a check engine light on .... if You DO??? AN I SAY IF YOU DOOOO.... I WILL SAY YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST TECHS IVE EVER SEEN ....
This is going to be one of the few hand built GM vans in the country. Not many people, even mechanics, would do what you are doing here. Essentially rebuilding a vehicle from the ground up. Good luck - this is going to take a lot of time and effort.
Alex just pull those heads, get them milled at least .020 thousands and you will not have to worry about a head gasket fail and have a bit more compression that means more power and better economy, I am sure Shon would agree pretty sure she is smarter than you or I LOL
those guys are ok, Alex will keep them straight, he does need an old guy like me to train them correctly, it could happen it is warmer in Atlanta than Ohio where I live, I am 63 almost retired still have my own shop but I would jump at a chance to train some young guys

DOCTOR DOCTOR! Quick advice please? 08 challenger srt 6.1… temp gauge rises to 220 in slow traffic and drops to 190ish when i pick up speed. Its always done this but i changed thermostat recently (had a leak from thermo housing) and it seems to do it quicker now?
@@bradhaines3142 ive heard some people say this is normal in the hemi srt 6.1. Maybe its just working more efficiently now that ive sealed the leaking thermostat/and or housing
check the fans and make sure to clean the radiator fins, sounds like an airflow problem, a good scanner will operate the fans on low and high speed, if you do not have access to one just let it idle and make sure they come on high speed, also bleed the coolant again, sometime it takes a few times to get all the air out, but 220 does not sound that high it may just be the way they are
@@JimSix-jo6hf yeah i took it for a run and figured out how to get a live data type reading on the dash. Turns out it goes to 215, then comes back down. I think its the way they are

Question I’m thinking about getting a 08 G35 or 2012 G37. Are infinitis hard to work on? Engine wise? Are they really expensive?
They are not hard to work on but they are pricey! but they are pretty good cars.

Where? These vans cost thousands where I live. And none of them are gonna have an LS2 Corvette engine. I guarantee that. This is completely custom.
