    My mother was an excellent housekeeper but when my dad left when I was 11 years old she didn't have time to clean anymore as she was too focused on making money to help us survive. So I started cleaning our house on my own and ended up starting my own cleaning business at 19.
    I will say that I have learned so much from my cleaning clients about cleaning -- some of them are real neatniks and showed me things to clean that I didn't even think about!! Others have showed me how to clean certain things in a different way that I never thought about.
    My parents are now in their 80s and I have a house cleaner for them but make time when I visit to get all the deep clean stuff done for them -- my mom still insists and still does clean her own house between the bimonthly cleanings but she can't see too well anymore(but don't tell her that!)
    My best friend is one of those that wasn't taught to clean as a child and for the first part of her adult life was pretty darn messy and she would keep asking me for advice. Now we laugh because she's pretty darn clean.

      What a great story of learning by doing. I love that you jumped in at 11 and took over the house cleaning to relieve your mom of those duties. What a wonderful daughter you are. And I'm so proud of you for taking the skills you learned and starting a business from them. Way to go Tina! 👏👏👏

      Thanks, LindyTN. If we have a roof over our heads we have to clean what is underneath it - and that goes for all places, large and small, apartments and homes. Cleaning should be a natural part of every day, not some grueling thing that feels like punishment. Thanks for watching and for helping me leave the world a cleaner place. 😍

    Just discovered your channel, but am SO glad I did! I'm learning so many new things. I especially love the piece about not being taught to clean as a kid, but it's never too late to learn. I teach my kids to use that growth mindset - "I don't know how to do this YET, but I can learn!" As a professional house cleaner I’ve learned so much from watching your channel and I really do appreciate you so thank you so much. The way I’ve learned how to clean toilets is spray them top to bottom with Lysol spray and then pee enzyme and let it sit while I clean the sink and the shower. And then for the inside I use Lysol toilet bowl cleaner a dryer sheet and a glove I don’t like using toilet boll brushes because I don’t feel like they clean as well and then once I’m done I wash my hand in case I get any water on my hand.

    Thank you for your tips. I saw that you use OrdoBan for outer surfaces. What about the inside? Comet? I do not mix comet and bleach (hazard); but what do you think of merely using 1/4 Cup of bleach in the toilet water for weekly in toilet cleaning? I usually start with a small swish, let it sit about 5 minute, then swish to clean it. Is this causing any problems?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you do a daily quick scrub your toilet won't need bleach. The key is to never use stronger chemicals than is required for the job at hand. If your toilet needs a strong acid (like the image in the thumbnail then go ahead and use it.) After your toilet is clean, just cleaning it once a day. th-cam.com/video/3oiSsip7E9w/w-d-xo.html
      And thank you for not mixing cleaning chemicals. You are wise. 👍

    I have several children and I understand the concern about cost of chemicals. We use a product called Simix and that is non-toxic totally and with the germ meter sensor they use it totally kills germs safer than many toxic chemicals, and it doesn't smell. So for us that several children it's not that the toilet doesn't need to be cleaned but trying to keep ahead of the germ count like you would want to keep ahead of the algae levels in the pool and not let them blossom so we don't want to let odors blossom before we address them.
    Probably another factor for me is military boot camp where 70 men were in a barracks and they were clean twice a day top to bottom because it not only kept the germ counts down but it also helped people pay attention to detail respect the areas they used.

    Speaking of dish soap for cleaning toilets:
    I am sensitive to chemicals and scents, so I prefer less harsh diy cleaners, such as baking soda, peroxide, vinegar, castile soap - but my go-to is definitely Dawn detergent (“the blue stuff”).
    I keep a spray bottle of water with a dribble of Dawn in both the kitchen and in the bathroom.
    *I do add a couple of spritzes of Mrs Meyer’s all purpose cleaner in Honeysuckle to the bathroom bottle to give it a pleasant but light scent. (I can’t use the all purpose stuff by itself because it’s TOO scented for me.)
    Bonus tip: Water with a few drops of Dawn makes a FANTASTIC ant spray(!!!)
    Double bonus tip: Folex carpet cleaning spray (easily found at Home Depot) is not only a mind-blowing carpet cleaner, it is a phenomenal wasp killer! ✊😆

      Here is a link th-cam.com/video/vwUEOkEHh7A/w-d-xo.html of a show we did on bidets. They are mostly self-cleaning, but you can spray the nozzles and brush them with a gentle brush (that you sanitize later) and wipe the nozzles down with a paper towel. It's an easy process if you stay on top of it. Great question. :-)

    Hello dear Angela, we have mould under the rim of our toilet which I am concerned about cleaning even though I will. Do you know what I can use to actually _kill_ the mould? I know bleach doesn't actually kill it. Many thanks and best wishes always!

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. I am very sorry to be so late in responding! 😊 You can use a bleach solution and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the bleach to kill the mold. Then scrub the affected areas and flush the toilet to rinse away the loosened mold. Flush again with clean water to remove any remaining bleach solution and mold residue. Proper ventilation helps to prevent mold growth in the future.
      If you prefer to use non-bleach alternatives, there are commercial cleaners available that can be used according to their specific instructions. They have ingredients like hydrogen peroxide or vinegar, which can be effective in killing mold. Thank you so much for watching!! 🤗

    I switched from the traditional toilet brush to a dish bottle brush, then drizzle a little bit of Palmolive green dish soap after flushing.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. Does the dish bottle brush have the same leverage in the handle that a regular brush has? This is the bottle brush I use amzn.to/2ZlKSFU so I'm having a hard time picturing it. LOL. What was the reason for switching from a regular toilet brush? And what type of holder to you keep it in after using it in the toilet?

      @@AskAngelaBrown I use a cheap dish brush from Walmart, then use a little hook to hang it from the side of the toilet. I stopped using the toilet brush with the little cup that gets discusting after a while so I just eliminated that from the equation.

    I have a question about bidets. The idea of room temperature water hitting my bum scares me; however, I don’t have an electric out in the water closet to plug a heated one into. Have any of you bought the regular bidet and not been able to use it because the water temperature is too cold for you?

    Angela, my husband and I have a commercial janitorial Buisness and have taken a residential home as well. We started as cleaning carpet, tile, patios, etc. I have seen your toilet segment video on stains in a toilet. Bu to am a little questionable still on blue stains that appear for example in an urinal streaking down like a waterfall or lines. What could I do to get these stains removed? We have tried numerous effects with no prevail. The rust stain marks, are easy peasy. I feel that it’s like itched into the porcelain and of course believe it’s water deposits from hard water, etc.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Patricia Anderson without seeing the toilet, my first thought is that maybe a pumice stone was used prior to your cleaning. This happens a lot. Cleaners will use a pumice stone and scratch the surface porcelain of the toilet. All that’s left is the raw ceramic. And when toilet bowl cleaner is used, it stains the ceramic because the porcelain protection is gone. Is that possible with the toilets you’re thinking about? Also, congratulations on the new segment of your business. Keep me posted I’m eager to hear how it goes for you. 👍

    How do you clean a marble shower

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ideally with a pH neutral cleaner. You can also use a netted scrub sponge - this is my favorite one of all times (paid link amzn.to/3Gu7Xrh) and I cut the handle off at that middle mark with a pipe cutter. I keep the scrub sponge in the shower and use straight Dawn Dish soap on the sponge part, wet the walls down, scrub the walls and then rinse. Then use the other side with the squeegee part to dry the walls to prevent future water spotting.

    Do you think it's a good idea to do a maintenance clean on EVERYTHING in a bathroom(from the toilet,the shower,the floor to the vanity area) in one go?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Oddly enough no. It's great question though. It turns out that if you "save" everything for a one-go, it's easy to skip that last big step. If you are in the shower, squeegee the walls and floor. After using the toilet, give it a quick scrub. At the vanity when brushing your teeth, put the toothpaste away and wipe down the electric toothbrush holder and the vanity. If you do it as you go, there's nothing to go back to and do over again. It's a simple process of tidying up after yourself and it takes far less time than getting back in the shower to squeegee the walls that now have dried on water spots... Does that make sense?

      If deodorizing it is the goal, you can clean it by grinding up some lemons or orange peels, or ice cubes. Once there is no food left down there you can pour in a bit of baking soda and let is sit between uses. Let me know if that fixes the problem.

    What do you think about the gadgets (in spray bottles) that create an electric current that is passed through saltwater , breaking the water and salt into Chlorine and sodium Ions (hypochlorus acid). This solution is said to kill 99.999% of bacteria while being perfectly safe for skin and the environment. Please let us know what you think. This could be a game changer as water and salt are virtually free. Thank you for your videos!

    Once a week I clear and spray my toilet and bath for a thorough cleaning with sanitizers but during the week I gently "Quick Clean" the sink and toilet each day.
    I shake the mats and hang them out while I sanitize the floor with a flat mop and spray "Boner Flat Mop" the mats wash once a week.
    Dirty odors trigger depression so I see my OCD as a good thing since I do love to clean. ☺
