    Audi E-trons are often showing up as lemons on Car Gurus. Nice cars but essentially paperweights for early adopters.

    It's nice to know that vw covered the buzz bar in plastic for stupid people like me and Paul. I feel so special.. This is a great video Paul. Which I will never ever try at home. :)

    I admire you persistence and thanks for sharing. You also gave me added confidence on my ID.4 purchase. This shows that battery is pretty much serviceable that price of repair can come down in the future.

    Paul, you might have been better off showing the whole procedure, not as a tutorial per se, but as a safety feature. You can be darn sure people are going to have a go themselves no matter what you publish but at least they can be kept that bit safer by following some decent guidelines.

      Don’t worry about the battery, I’d be more worried about the very dodgy looking axle stand, especially considering the weight of these cars.

    Nice to see some of the process and the insides of the battery. Are you going to tell us how much the 'fuse' and control module are - I bet they are not cheap!

    • @EverydayLife621

      The pyro fuse, which burns through 20s seconds after the airbags go off, are a tad over £200 for an exchange from Seat Belts Solutions (HP15 7BZ - Joanne), the BMS system will be fine.

  • @johngreen5867

    Hats off to you for giving this a go. Not something I would feel comfortable doing. You could carve yourself a niche as being the salvage ID.3 saviour :) Whats the reason for having to replace the regulator, didn't really understand that bit.

    • @EverydayLife621

      because VW say so - the reality is that all that is required is a new pyro fuse (£200 exchange) : the BMS will be fine (plus he wont have component protection issues with the existing one), as paul noted that the charge was at 40% or so (from the cars display), im sure that he has checked the combined voltage of the cells which will be between 300-400v

    • @SuperMinimadness

      Because vw want more money they could easily just sell a new fuse but then the aftermarket manufacturers would make them in China for a couple of quid so keep it so you have to replace big bits of the electrical control system and re code them to the car and then vw still make money of you!

    I actually think the shock hazard is the least of your worries if you follow sensible procedures. From all I have seen there are.many layers of shock safety. I think 3 phase power that all of us who have worked in a workshop have been around is just as dangerous and has fewer layers of safety.
    Many batteries are twice that weight so the crush hazard must not be underestimated.
    However my bggest fear is an accidental short circuit of a pack and resulting fire.b
    I also fear for first responders, at least you can test things with a volt meter they dont have time for that.

    As I said in the first video being level one qualified only gives you basic knowledge on the battery and you shouldn’t be removing the battery unless level 3 qualified and repairing a battery is level 4 because you can do yourself some serious harm if you don’t know what you’re doing properly, hence the need for qualifications in it

    • @marknewman6037

      But who polices this system............what if you do not even know there is a qualification required. What if you do it without qualifications, who prosecutes you.

    • @mariushaeberle85

      He is a private person so he doesn't need the qualifications. It only becomes a problem when he sells the car.

    I’ve found an ID3 with rear bumper damage, apparently it only needs rear bumper and light replacement and a small rear back panel repair. Would you still recommend me staying away or would there not be this electrical issue for a light-ish impact on the rear bumper? (Not planning to repair myself but take to garage, just weighing up if it’ll save me money rather than buying an already repaired cat s ID3)

    Put the Pyrofuse inside the battery VW designers having a Stupid day at the office... Making it less likely that these cars will be sold on the second hand market and the insurance premiums will be very high....

    • @bikeman123

      Or maybe they made the decision that putting the fuse there would increase the chance that the battery was inspected before the fuse was replaced. Good call by vw I'd say.

    Regardless of not knowing if you need to be qualified to do this or not to me it's kind of common sense it's high voltage! Knowingly Being a level 1 and doing this which is a level 3/4 job is just stupid and should have qualifications revoked.
    Just my opinion!
