Manufacturers continue to find ways to stop crashed vehicles being brought back on the road. Well done for taking us on the journey.

Considering the way the press reacts to EVs it’s not surprising. They’d rather disconnect the pack and force you back to the dealer.

The exact same type of issues exist with fossil fuel cars in terms of how the manufacturers look for ways to make it as difficult as possible for people to repair their own vehicles. They also exist for mobile phones, televisions, washing machines, etc., etc., etc.
There needs to be stronger and stricter "right to repair" legislation and corporations need to literally be put out of business if they refuse to comply.
In the meantime we mortals depend upon folk like Paul and many many others who share their expertise for free on "teh choobs".
      Many thanks Paul.

I fix washing machines and years ago if the drum went you could change the bearings and it could live on. Now they are sealed drums and no longer can change the bearings. Just shows its not just cars its everything you can buy pretty much

Hello, This ongoing VWE id3 project is one of the best & most interesting builds on the YT. Pretty soon there's going to be a lot more crashed BEV's that will need repairing by very clever chaps like your good self, It must be a big learning curve to get to grips with this new technology & I really look forward to your vids on this car.
Thank you for explaining just how you go about repairing every piece of this jigsaw puzzle.

Hello, Paul. Found you this evening and subscribed. Thank-you. If car manufacturers are behaving like this, and don't change their attitude soon, then they'll go out of business. And good riddance. Customers who spend a lot of money on buying their products will not stand for shoddy treatment for very long.

We get an auto balancing cycle every so often on the lithium ion powered forklifts I work on, when we see the balancing message pop up during charging we just leave the charger to do it's thing until green light & ready displays on the charger. Hopefully VW will have programmed a similar thing to balance the battery.

    Really enjoying this Paul. Thanks.
You may recall in the comments of a previous viseo I asked if you still had the drivers door glass from the old door. A scrote smashed ours three weeks ago.
Anyway, I found one in a dismantlers and bought it for £58. It's fitted and mostly fine except that there is an amber warning for seatbelt tensioner / airbag issue. I've got an OBDeleven on order. I was lucky: Autoglass still haven't got one. I must remember to cancel them.
The car drives just fine so I can only imagine that it detected the thud but didn't deploy as there was nobody in the car and the car was not turned on. Why this needs to happen is utterly ridiculous imo.
Why cars are so stupidly complicated now is going beyond me. This is going to be a huge problem for owners once cars are out of warranty. The e-waste is going to be horrendous.

Secondly car manufacturers have got us bent iver a barrel while sticking a large broom handle up our bottoms. Gone are the days of trying to do economic motoring, especially for those in a budget. Go green they say but we will also take you penny less. Good channel Paul.

I would have added thread lock to the screws. You need a better multimeter, cheap ones are not the best. I cleared an air bag code on my Cupra Born when I disconnected the air bag switch when fitting a dash cam. Try disconnecting the 12 V battery for 30 minutes.

Respect for attempting this repair Paul but this kind of procedure is completely against the 'powers that be' policies, as you are probably aware. Audi and all the other 'Western' car manufacturers are intent on making these cars unrepairable by anyone but themselves (I'm not sure if the Asian market is the same). Companies like the Airbagteam are vital in this fight with corporations. All the best and good luck with this car.

@jeffreycooper8408 Its a OBD2 reader for vag cars called OBDeleven not 11 its wrote as eleven in the name and on the older models you can do coding with it to add features and retrofit parts but on the new generation like mk8 golf etc vw have locked down there ecus with security that blocks access to program the ecu and even for clearing certain codes without paying for access to there proprietary system really screws over 3rd party repairs. There is now a unlock though for obdeleven that you have to pay for because its using the vw proprietary system to get the unlock code from vw servers that allows it to be used as normal on the newer vag cars with full access for programming and clearing codes
