    I think the wife has seen how depressed and low he felt and only thing she could do was just to take care of the rest and be kind and loving to him.
    What a amazing wife. That's the kinda partner you need when you are at your worst.

      I think his wife was right. The fact she supported him instead of shaming him during the "intervention" gave him the actual motivation he needed.
      Trying to shame men into something just makes them feel even worse. His wife supporting him is what made the difference. Not attempting to shame him or poke at his ego

He sits in his room playing games and I have tried again and again to help him, I feel it is getting harder and harder as time goes on to motivate him, I don't feel like he even wants to work and I keep saying to him I cant get the job for him the effort has to come from him.. iv explained this to my sister who I feel makes constant excuses for him that if we don't get him into work now its going to get much much harder.. I can see the depression and lack of motivation in him and its just getting worse by the day. She says that he is trying. I beg to differ. If he was , he would have a job by now.

      @@lulabelle4527 Unfortunately, I think he might have to have a work opportunity organised for him. Even if it's work experience one day a week for a while, as well as a career coach or a psychologist. With the man in this show it took a professional come in, organise his work attempts, get him work opportunities and coach him through the process. Your nephew is only young and he needs help. I don't have children, but from what I've seen, it's natural for parents to deny that there's anything 'wrong' with their child, but the problem is that if you don't acknowledge the problem, you can't help fix it.

      marie boutin I wouldn't go that far!! I have mixed feelings about her, i think she can go to far sometimes, she is there to help you get back into work, nothing more. not to tell you what to do in your own home with your personal life!
      No one would tell me whether i could smoke in my own home or not, and if she ever tried to banish any of my beautiful animals to one room, she would be out the front door with my foot up her arse, not acceptable i'm afraid, who the fuck does she think she is!!!

      @@Darkangel-hy8ev but I think her approach has worked well. Mostly people are demoralised and lose faith in their abilities. Looking at their home life and seeing them as people is the big difference between Hayley and the job centre. People need understanding and motivation but after a time unemployed they also need someone to have expectations of them. It can be hard to get out of a rut and making changes in the home can help. The family with the smoking and dog running everywhere needed a bit of order and to make changes in their own lives before they could feel better about themselves. Obviously there was a lot going on with the family dynamics but Hayley was just trying to get them to take more pride in and value themselves. It's amazing how successful Hayley is, people can go for years and just get further from having a job and the life they would prefer. She might seem a bit bossy and adults don't like being told what to do, but sometimes that can be very useful.

    • @Darkangel-hy8ev
      @Darkangel-hy8ev 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@roseharvey2664 I understand everything you have said, and she is ok in some ways, and yes can be very effective with her approach.
      However i stand by what i said, smoking in the house is none of her business, and the reason she gave for it is BS. i am a smoker and used to work in a place where you could only smoke on breaks obviously, and i had no problem, as no one does, you just get used to it, and have to put up with it!
      That is why it's called work, it's generally sacrificing a few things here and there and not always that great, but at home, that is your leisure time,YOUR time to relax and do what you choose to do, your sanctuary, where no one else can bother you, and no one tells you what to do, you are your own boss at home!!!
      The only reason she stopped the smoking was because she didn't like it, lets be clear on that!!
      As for the dog, yes he was somewhat unruly, he needed some fresh air, and to be walked more often i suspect, maybe some dog training classes.
      What he didn't need was to be shut off from the only family he knows and loves, that was incredibly cruel, she showed no compassion for that animal whatsoever, she clearly isn't keen on animals, i suspect it's all because he chewed her bloody shoe, jesus the money she is probably on she can just buy plenty more shoes!!
      My passion is animals i'm afraid and you will always hit a nerve with me when it comes to animals, and that is one little rule she would not be implementing in my home, not a chance, no one comes before my animals. least of all some bloody stranger!!
      The almighty Hayley doesn't know everything, and she could learn a few things herself from people, how not to overstep boundaries, and also be less hard and learn to show a little more compassion in some area's!!!

    • @roseharvey2664
      @roseharvey2664 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Darkangel-hy8ev well I agree it's obviously possible to smoke at home and still be able to cope with not smoking at work. But the problem with this family is they had no rules and had basically let themselves go. Ashtrays were everywhere and they barely got up from the couch to do anything. I think that she zoned in on that to get the family to take care of their surroundings and make some effort. You have a job and don't sound like there would be any need to tell you what to do. Unfortunately, this family did need someone to tell them what to do, and they actually did respond well. As for the dog, I agree that I would not like to confine my dog to the kitchen away from the family, but it was a bit mental and Hayley did organise dog training classes. As most people know dog training is really people training, and the family took this up. I think again the mother particularly needed to get more control over her own surroundings and life. Having a well behaved dog surely would have been better for all of them and perhaps easier to walk. I think Hayley picked the smoking and dog as a way of making some significant difference in a short time. Most people would not appreciate being told how to behave in their own home and probably don't need that type of intervention. But the family signed up for this and did seem to want change especially the children that were being held back and also the mother was actually very sad. As things were their lives were not going to improve. I hope they did benefit from this programme, I like that it didn't portray them as spongers but people that actually needed a chance to get on. The daughter was delighted and even the son cheered up with the boxing, he was also genuinely pleased for his sister. I hope the mum learnt to cope with her grief and have a better life for herself.

      @@Darkangel-hy8ev You are right, but you WORK, you have every right to do what you want in your own home. But try to understand Rose Harveys point of view : if nobody works, if the house is a squalor, if the dog has no training, there is something wrong here. Nobody will ever come to your house and tell you what you have to do. What for ? But some people aren't like you. They have no idea about what they should do or not.

      So again define trashy. Because your comment “first family that’s no trashy” is a example of trashy and judgmental

    This family reminds me of my brother's wife. She'd do everything for him when it came to looking for work, even typed up his resume & sought references. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if she attended job interviews for him!
    There should be more fairy jobmothers in Australia, helping out those seeking work & on the verge of giving up because some jobseekers are either over qualified or too old.

    Some people get stuck in a rut and they close themselves off thinking they have no options then there mental health declines to the point they become depressed,
    I was in that rut for years as I felt there was no point to life and I had no aspirations, I then become a father and my prospective on life changed the day she was born, my job is to keep her safe and looked after, I now have a 20 grand a year job doing a job I love and I have other plans and goals for the future.
    But birth of my child was a turning point and a wake up call for me and my life is so much better for it

    It is hard for some people, almost impossible to bounce back from repeated rejection. It destroys something within you and you will feel that you are worthless. Fear of further rejection will naturally enough almost immobilise you at some point and you creep into your shell, becoming more withdrawn, feeling hopeless, giving up. It is easy to say, do more, apply for more jobs, but depression is like living under a thick, dark blanket that makes you feel tired from the time you get up to the time you go to bed. When I speak to people who are clinically depressed they have no spark, no energy, there is an absence of animation, of joy. People like that are not enjoying their life. Some can fake it for you for a bit (the elderly in mourning for instance because they are often so kind they won't burden you), some can't even do that (a parent who has lost a child for instance).It is a harsh spiral and it could happen to any one of us.
    It is easy to look down on the unemployed and sneer at them. Yes, some are just lazy, scared to grow up and stand on their own two feet but others have been knocked down, so that they have no faith in themselves and have become lost. If we are really honest with ourselves, how would we fare if another great depression came upon us and we lost the homes we have nearly paid off, the savings account and investments, our jobs and all the security we think we have provided? What if the govt decided it could no longer pay out the pensions we feel we have secured, would we be walking the streets wearing cardboard signs saying, "take any job for any pay", or would we kill ourselves?
    I remember years ago watching a documentary on homeless people living under a bridge in London. Some had been married with children, living in their own homes, managers, lawyers, a doctor. The despair when they lost a marriage or a job led them to alcohol and the cycle was a downward spiral you could not lift yourself out off unaided. Once you have no home, you won't get work. You need an address, a place to shower, wash your hair and clothes, facilities to look groomed, money for toothpaste and a haircut. It was such a sad documentary and really opened my eyes to the plight of the homeless. Not everyone can help themselves, depression is a horrible master and some, sure not all, but a lot of people without work or without a home or both really need a guardian angel or they will never get out of that rut, other than through the final exit door.
    If you are ever in a position to offer someone work and help them back on their feet, it would be a great kindness to consider offering a 3 month trial. Does it always have to be the youngest, prettiest, most confident candidate or could you take on someone and let them blossom under your care?

    • @chloeelizabeth2174
      @chloeelizabeth2174 ปีที่แล้ว
