This might sound silly but this series really helped me with my own job search! I was with several employment agencies and none of them were helpful much, one was downright awful. I have a disability and I really needed some guidance. I thought that the employment agencies would be like this lovely woman but nope! So I just used these videos to guide myself along as if Hayley was with me lol Well, something must be right because I got my first job at 26 (Better late then never!) and I've been there for a year now! ^_^ So thank you Fairy Jobmother!

You’re absolutely right. People need emotional support and practical skills in a small group situation run by someone who understands them. It’s a pity that there isn’t a programme training more mentors like this. We desperately need something like this in Australia.

We had this at school, we had to find a job to "apply" for, fill out an application form and submit a CV and then we had mock interviews for the job. It REALLY helped my confidence in being interviewed. I've had jobs since 16, even while I was in full time education and the longest I have been unemployed was 3 months after graduating uni.

I job hunted for 2 years every single day all day, and i mean 7 days a week from age 17 to 19 after i got paid off from my first job then just gave up altogether as its so easy done. Then looked for work for 1 week at age 20 and got a job. Its all about luck and timing, pure and simple! You have to have been there and tried it to know what i mean. And that was in 1990 and it was grim, really bad with no work at all as we were coming out of the 1980s plus my age was against me. I got a job at age 16 probably becouse i walked strait into the boss office with my overalls on? And he looked at me up and down from his desk and said "well at least your dressesd for it and very keen" and smiled while he said it. And that was before he even knew my name or anything about me, i just said is there any jobs going? And it worked. But now you cant even do that?? Why? What other way did people get jobs 30, 50, 70 years ago? I wanted him to see me in the flesh right there and then and already dressesd to start work, hard graft work, not with a nice white shirt and trousers on and black shoes as if am at a funeral. I went in basicly telling him that i was taken the job not asking him for it, and i think he knew it, but couldnt help but like it. Maybe i reminded him off himself when he was age 16. As i was quite tall as well for my age at 6ft. Wich also helps if its hard work and dirty, all my jobs have been dirty and hard. But now people are being punished from the state for not doing stuff that is just ridicoulas and if you do it then most will lie about what you SHOULDNT have did or what you didnt do just to stop there money. The system is built on targets and when that happens its just all about corruption and lies. Punishing people into starvation wont get them into work! And the crime rate is through the roof due to that. Its sickening. Thats why the women at age 54 had to leave the course, she just couldnt believe what she was being asked to do. And most of it is just pure nonesense. And she worked all of her adult life, but if it had been the old system the women would maybe have got a job. The system pushed her out of the course, and i noticed it was all kept quiet on the proggrame. Meaning they wouldnt show or discuss what she had to do? Or why she quit? She wanted a job but had to quit the course becouse it was all too complicated and deliberatly set up to be hard work. And that was some one who wanted to work? I am still trying to work that bit out??? Now its even more harder, much more harder! To the point where people cant even last 1 day. So there money stops! And how many women and men like her have had to quit courses while WANTING to work since then, becouse the systems designend to fail them. Not help them! The rules have changend so much since then that people have took there own lives. The system says get a job and do not ask for any help and while you try and get a job we will try and fault you at every turn then take your money from you. And if your good at looking for work then after 6 months we will just lie that you failed to do what we asked you to do then take your money! This is where the grey areas come in, and the system is doing nothing to address that or even look at that, it was through a jobclub a got a job after a week at age 20, but now all that or this has gone. It was a great thing to have back in 1993 becouse it was voluntary and the people there really did want a job or they wouldnt be there as they didnt have to be. But we did it our way and at our pace? And i got a job just after 1 week. But i couldnt get a job in 2 years trying every day. Now if we had to do it the way it is done now then i wouldnt have got that job after a week becouse we would all still be playing catch up and be maybe a few days behind becouse of none stop pathetic stuff that you have to do and all of it just pure rubbish, crap, that no one wants to see, especialy an employer. Then more objects put infront of you to over come and complete, and thats what it is an object. So by todays insane twisted system that job i got would have by passesd bye me just after a week as i wouldnt have even seen it let alone apply for it, as the system would have me completing all sorts of crap, like a 'to do list' then when thats done you will be told to do another 'to do list' then the next day another 'to do list' but put more stuff on your 'to do lists' 1,2 and 3 lists. As in what exactly? A man asked. He was told "thats up to you becouse in short this isnt good enough is it" so you are being told what to do but the person telling you doesnt or wouldnt even know what to do or write themselfs? Its like asking a painter to make a whisky barrel and the person asking or telling is just a civil servant? A mean thats what its come to. Too many private companys involved in the system for money and every one has a different way of how it should be done? With lots of money at the root of it as in millions then of course its going to be corrupt to the core and thats the nicer ones. Its like asking pablo escobar if his private company could do a better job.

I'm just wondering if assessment is done on each person. Example. Self assessment form (where client fills out questions like, confidence, medical, mental health etc, problems relating to work like transport, can't work late nights etc... Education. From there the WORK BROKER (Hayley) can then have group meeting to see where each person is at. For example. Sue Riches need a med cert to state she if fit for work. Lianne also has issues with housing which really needs to be looked into. Can't get a job if you have no where to live. Dee has been a full time mum for decades so a course/study might be the best thing for her along with community work once a week to keep her confidence up. Something as simple as volunteer at a community store or something. Don't just throw people out here when they have no skills. This world doesn't work on "Transferable Skills".

I can understand Chelsea. My mum and dad didn’t work while I was growing up, my mum was a housewife and my dad was too ill to work, they never really taught me how to look for work as they didn’t do it themselves. I didn’t even get my first job until I was 19 as I have Asperger’s syndrome so I struggle when it comes to phone calls and interviews. I’ve failed them so many times because I always mess up despite trying to prepare but they’re just too overwhelming for me. I worked at Tesco back in 2020 during lockdown and I really enjoyed it, I had to leave though as I was pregnant, I haven’t been back since as I’ve been raising my daughter but I don’t want her thinking that relying on benefits is normal because it’s not, I want to show her that you have to work for your money, but because of lack of childcare I feel like I can’t, she only goes to nursery one day a week and I don’t know what job that is gonna accommodate that as employers normally look for flexibility and reliability which I don’t have right now

She has a lot to offer and is too young to be home all day every day, but it was obvious she is still in a vulnerable situation and I am glad Hayley gave her space to cope with everything. Now the staff at the DWP expect the unemployed to apply for everything and anything regardless of qualifications or ability to do the jobs after 1 month of specified job searches. I love the sandwich board idea though. If ever I become unemployed again I will definitely try it myself.
