Sarah here with an update if anyone is interested. I'm now 34 happily married with a 4 year old little boy who sadly is diagnosed with lennox gastaut syndrome. I still work at ATS but in a different position, I wash my hair more often and am still werid but a lot more confident now 😌.
I actually went to one of Hayley's workshops in Birmingham basically I was living on benefits in a flat that was given to me after I'd left foster care, I had no idea how to apply for jobs properly I didn't even know how to write up a CV. I took down notes from her workshop and was able to secure my first paid job in retail the job didn't last but it got my foot in door and now I've worked in care and security fulltime since 2015.
Hayley is incredible, she doesn’t just tell people to get a job she takes the time to understand them and what barriers they have. She really works on the confidence and supports them in what to expect.
She's a saint that woman, her patience is admirable. I would have smacked the back of that guy's head and said "nobody told you to show up on time?" when he started blaming his issues on nobody teaching him how to manage in life. To me all these people except the red-head blamed their unemployment on somebody else. I suspect she's on the spectrum and needs more specialised help.
She really isn’t. She’s a terrible mentor. She has no idea how to build confidence in people. She has a dismissive avoidant / persecutor stance which, for vulnerable people, is the worst option of all. There are much much better ways than what she demonstrates. It makes good tele but it’s not what any actual professional in self development would choose.
Tammy Tammy Tammy. Unbelievable. Sorry to tell you love, but you do what you have to do to get money. When I was at University, I had to work my arse off working in McDonalds to get through my degree. I'm now a Registered Nurse.
Nursing is an awesome job!!!! I nannied throughout my studies (and loved it) but did envy the training you get from huge businesses like Kmart, Maccas, Target, etc.
Same here, I did every job under the sun when I was in uni, old people’s home , baby sitting, etc. my first job at 16 was at McDonald’s. I can’t even feel sorry for Tammy with that snobbish attitude. Being on welfare for no reason is even beneath McDonald’s
The audacity of Tammy! There are people with full degrees and tons of experience who struggle to find jobs and she thinks she can be so snobby with what she has to offer? I feel for Bill on the other hand, he seems so lovely and clearly has a lot on his plate. Same with Thomas, he definitely just needs some guidance.
To tell you the truth, I know a kid who has failed his maths and English GCSES and he is doing some sort of care qualification. Frankly, the care agency has tons of jobs going in caring for elderly. As you say loads of people with degrees struggle to get a job and would be pleased to work in food, better than working cleaning sewers.

I can very confidently tell You that I would never work for subway [again-yes, I did in the past, waste of Time and lack of self-respect]. it's a sh*t company, they exploit People, also some subways cheat their Customers, and what some do, if You knew, You wouldn't eat there. regards.
@@wolfrahmphosphoros5808 I wouldn't recommend cleaning sewers. Water companies are not that great to work for and the pay is good because it is danger money. Have to wear a respirator and still risks from sewer gases and also leptospirosis, still someone has to do it.

@@banana9106 I have worked in social care for 10 years now, I love my job dearly but it really is not for everyone, in my last position in the private sector we had our local job centre who just threw young people at us, these young folk were assisting with personal care, dealing with clients who were chalenging and never lasted more than a few days. Life experience plays a massive part in this job and young folk have not accrued that, it takes a certain nature to do this job its certainlynot for everyone.
I do wish this was compulsory before you leave school because no one really prepares you for real world interviews except a brief touch. Should be mandatory. What a fabulous job she does!
They DO offer career adviser,, help with work experience etc... It's not compulsory, but Nothings stopping people from going and just choose to sigh on to job seekers when they leave.
Why do people like you ALWAYS expect the state to do EVERYTHING for you? If you have kids, it's YOUR responsibility to teach them these life skills, not the state.

I was bullied at school and my home life wasn’t great. Once I left school I used drugs and ended up on the benefits for the next 10 years. I had zero confidence and just dreamed about being a pop star. I couldn’t face the reality of doing menial labour for 40 hours a week so I just survived instead of living. In the end I got really sick of that life and I gave up drugs and started my own business cleaning. Best thing I ever did. May not have ended up being a pop star but I’m in my 50s now and never looked back. I don’t have a lot of money but I’m independent and look after my own needs and I feel proud.
I clicked on one of these episodes thinking it would be a good laugh, I’m four episodes in now and it’s such a feel good heart warming show. This lady is an absolute angel.
This is what should be part of the school curriculum. Especially, for those children who are in situations like these young people. The local business communities need to work with schools, to mentor children to achieve their potential. Well done all involved, and if I was a business owner if I could, I would give them all a chance.
In the last year of high-school we're given work expericance, shown how to write CVs, how to fill out an application etc... So it IS taught to us. Some teens just choose not to listen and take the opportunity and advice when it's given.

Some of these people are products of there own environment, it takes more than being shown how to do a cv and a bit of work experience, subjects like e.g French, music...could be replaced with things that are going to be needed in everyday life as an adult to get you places with a better chance of doing something with your life.

What a kind woman. She is very sensitive, very warm with the young people and yet she know how to be authoritative to make them react, build a project in their life. A very helpful, human person.
When there’s a camera to your face and it will be viewed to millions of people nationwide, people change their personality to what they think people will like. Not saying she’s a horrible person off camera but we have to be wary of this.
Hahaha. I'm a support worker. I clean toilets, scrub showers, make meals, hand feed clients, change wound dressings, shower and dress them, vacuum, mop, do their shopping, wash their clothes, make their bed. Occasionally I get to take them out to lunch or bingo etc, but the bulk is doing their day to day care they can no longer manage. If she has studied and became qualified for this, she would know this is what it entails. I think she means she wants to be a social worker. They purely refer people to the agencies, paperwork etc. Wait until she is old and needs looking after.
How I agree with you! I've been in social care for 25 years, and it's damned hard work for low wages. You forgot to mention the incontinence and when clients hit us, lol!
Couldn't be more happy for Thomas. Did you see how made up and happy he was when the others got jobs? Despite the fact he'd been turned down at that point. What a genuine guy, you could see it in his face. I think sometimes a lot of pressure and adversity early in life makes people bitter and hateful, but other times it forges a diamond. I have a strong suspicion he's the latter.
Agree Thomas is a lovely guy. I hope he's happy in life now. This show shows how f*cking stupid judging people on benefits is. I think it was quite cruel to give the same group the same job interviews tbh, he must have felt awful.
That poor young lad broke my heart talking about his dad and about his sexuality he is so insecure he has his whole life ahead of him he is handsome and has a big heart I wish him all the best in his future x
No, they need a job. These are able bodied people with no jobs. They don't need silly hugs. They need to stop being leeches like so many of these underclass unwashed chavs.
A carer who doesn't actually care. Just wow. I think the truth is that she is actually sad and seeing herself in those helpless people; and that is what upsets her. There was no need for the eye rolling and gimping though. 🙄
What this demonstrates is that what people need is to be listened to and helped to identify what they have to offer. That isn't always obvious or automatic. Stop demonising people on benefits, stop demanding they just 'get a job' and *help* them. It is so much better for everyone involved.

I love how tammy says working in MacDonalds is degrading and she wouldn't stoop that low... reality check ur lower cos ur not choosing to work. U can't stoop any lower being unemployed, not cos she has no choice she just feels entitled to get the job she desires and until that day comes she won't bother with anything 'below her' 🙄
I wouldn't work in Mcdonald either they are one of the worst employers plus you stink of oil, there are jobs people just won't do, if it makes you retch the jobs not for you
My 16 year old son works at McDonald’s while he waits to join the army college in March. Its a hard and demanding job and some of the abuse they get is disgusting. The way that Tammy was making faces and gipping in front of the people she was serving is disgusting. I am a social worker and believe me we see a lot worse conditions, to be a social worker you need to actually care for people no matter what they look like or even how they smell there Should be no judgement. She needs a reality check, looking at her Facebook she’s now a s mum to 3 boys so this must have been filmed a while ago hopefully she’s changed her attitude I wish them all the luck
@@Mjk10957 thank you he’s defiantly getting impatient now he was supposed to go in September 2021 he passed his fitness test in fact he passed it that well it was good enough to get into the parras and he passed his medical until the doctor noticed he has a bit of over crowding with his front teeth and said he needed braces before he can join so we’re trying to get a dentist which is literally like pulling teeth no ones taking on and as it’s getting closer to March it’s stressing him out it’s all he’s ever wanted from being a young child and something as silly as a dental problem is standing in the way they cause him no pain and he was never planning on braces
@@jamesbeech9177 🤔 don't understand why over crowding would be a reason not to allow him to join? Also fixed braces need adjusting every 6-8 weeks and depending on complexity of treatment could take anywhere between 9-48 months
Working at McDonald's is nothing to be embarrased about. My job there allowed me to afford my college course many years ago. I'm always grateful they even gave me a chance. It also taught me a lot about working, time management, and many other aspects of the working world.
My best friend worked there to help cover Uni costs, it is most definitely not an easy job, hospitality sector in general, but McDonald’s is belittled.
Agreed, you should not look down on people that are doing something for you. Those working hard and getting paid low wages should be respected and valued. I think Tammy doesn't realise that she is not better or worse than anyone else, and it is just not nice to look down on someone to make yourself feel better. But I think she will get a better perspective and understanding by actually working and having more experience.
@@a.m.3567 I did the same and it's not as easy as people seem to think, especially if your studying because you working long hours which just about pays enough for uni, going to classes an extra work when you get home and that aswell as dealing with arleast 3 or "karens" screaming at you everyday. It wasn't the best of jobs or the highest paying, but got me through uni

Interesting how Tammy really limits herself with a closed mindset. She hasnt matured since school and seems to struggle to open her mind to developing any skills or experience. I love how Hayley tells her what she sees about her negativity directly.
Hayley is a wonderful person I wish employers at the job centre had only 5% of her enthusiasm and empathy. The key to turning lives around is to catch young people early and make them understand that their past never defines their future. They must be encouraged and by simply re-discovering their dreams believing in themselves and a future again. Lack of confidence, negative self believe and fear of the unknown is often the biggest challenge to overcome. She helped all on their way with professionalism, tough love BUT most of all the kindness and care they needed to come out of their shell and to open up. Really love this series and I hope that a lot of young people take inspiration from this because no matter where where we come from, no matter how much pain we carry inside, we can all decide on a goal and then step by step move towards it, time is a great healer but we all need to focal point in life.
It's the individuals repsonsibilty to find a job like anywhere else in the world and not the jobcenters.thry can jus show that these jobs are open..they cannot drive anyone to an employer
That comment about working in McDonalds! Oh my goodness. I hope anyone that works for McDonalds who sees this programme doesn’t take it to heart. There is pride in doing any job well and McDonalds is a harder job than than many I should imagine.
when I see just how overjoyed and glowing they are when they get the job, proves that confidence really is what is holding so many people back. I really love seeing how confident they look right at the end stood there proud of their jobs x
I grew up in the same area as Tammy and her family . Her way of thinking is generational entitlement , one generation after the other having kids as way of easy money . I really do hope she breaks the cycle .
So pleased for Thomas. He seemed like a decent lad who's just took a wrong turn. Right from the start he sounded pretty well spoken . He wasn't talking in the this muttering gangsta way, and said he had a job. He just needed that bit of a rocket up the arse to get himself going again. As for Tammy, fucking hell. My friend worked in McDonalds in his late teens, now he's a computer programmer because he used his money from McDonalds to buy his computer equipment.
They turned me down after I graduated with a BA, because I don't speak Spanish (from San Antonio) and it was the Great Recession. Would've done it in a heartbeat, though.
This is what people need. just a small personal intimate push. People are not to stupid to work. They just dont know how to structure their daily lives and how to perform in job intervievs. Amazing how close she gets with the individuals. We need more people like her. No one would be unemployed.
A friend of mine's family got so uppity, their son thought he was too good for McDonald's. He ended up not getting any work and once in his mid 20s, he became unemployable no one would have him (including McDonald's) - he was too old and had no work experience. His mum got fwd up with him living at home, so pays his rent for years and ongoing.
I was born in 1955. Got my school diploma aged 16. Left my home in Spain. My parents gave me a one way ticket to The Netherlands. My biological father and his wife took me in. Within 3 months learned Dutch and found a job. I will retire in a couple of months after almost 50 years of fulltime working at least 40 hours per week, never depending on anyone else. In my large family including all those living in southern America, Spain and Germany (with one exception only), not working is a shame, something that is absolutely not done. Even in times of economic crisis like in the 80s and beginning of 2000, we never lost a job. Coincidence? I do not think so. It is a matter of wanting and willing. But I do absolutely understand some do need help......and there is Hayley for those with lesser chances.
Learned a new language and got a job within 3 months? Amazing..my mum and dad did the same as migrants - Hayley is lazy and entitled. I am so grateful my parents were hard working and not too proud to take any job that was available to them.
American, and graduated during the Great Recession. Spoke Mandarin and had a BA, but couldn't find ANY job for 9 months. Left after working 2 years to get a MA from John's Hopkins. Learned Shaanxi dialect (actually a language), worked as a professor in China. Met an Iranian, fell in love and had 2 kids. Learned Persian and Azeri Turkish. Now I'm a professor in Iran, and applying for my Italian citizenship through ancestry. Take those jobs. Be mobile. Keep updating your skills, and combine truly unique skills.

Anyone could see she wasn't the best at personal grooming. With Hayley addressing the issue in a kind and straightforward manner, Sarah was able to make the necessary corrections. Evidently nobody has ever said these things to her, and she's suffering as a result. She obviously felt alot better and more confident after she cleaned up, and Hayley was very positive about it.
There was nothing like this in the 60's to prepare you for jobs; I didn't have a great deal of confidence at interviews, and found it difficult to relate to people. It would have been great to have somebody like Hayley.
There still isn't for regular people. I've never had any problems, but many of my friends and family have. They get absolutely no help from anyone. Someone calls them every few months and tells them they should find work already, like they don't already know that. This is a tv show, nothing like the reality.
Another amazing thing was how I got my first full-time job back in 1995 for a call center. I signed up at a temporary job agency who found the job for me and I was only going to stay over Christmas. However, I wanted a full-time job so much that I gave it 110%. I was very polite with the customers and with my coworkers. I gave it all I had, and I was very attentive in training. One day, immediately after Christmas, my boss called me into her office and said that we really like what we hear from you and what you were doing. How would you like to join us full-time? To say the least, I was ecstatic. I said, when do I start full-time? As soon as my temporary contract is up, they told me, you will start full-time. It was amazing. I went to the temp agency and they had already heard about it, and they were so proud of me!
The young caterer, what an absolute gem. Genuine as hell, just put in a situation every one of us would struggle with. NO I DIDNT CRY WHEN HE GOT THE JOB, was dust or..something
She has the qualifications to be a carer, my love, 24years in healthcare .... you don't need qualifications to get into it... turn up, no convictions ... they will hand u some gloves there and then
My mum has no qualifications or any experience in the carer industry, but 2 months ago she apied for a job in a care home and the hired her on the spot and she gets training on the job
I wish we had a careers lady like Hayley when we were at school. I'll never forget my careers talk\meeting.. she was bored, didn't help me with ideas. I hadn't a clue what I'd be when I left school. I hadn't even considered further education. I was only young. She told me I'll be a flower arranger . I'm sure it's a great job but I didn't feel inspired once I'd been told that's my career path set in stone. Everyone else got lawyer or veterinarian. I got that. FFS. So anyway.. if you need any flowers arranging... I'm your mermaid.
You're lucky. Because I didn't want to go to Uni or Teacher Training college, I was told my best avenues would be policewoman, nurse or secretary. Maybe if they'd looked at what I was actually good at they might have told me graphic designer, journalist or social worker ... Anyway, that was back in 1971, and one can only hope that times have changed since then! _PS_ I've done many and various interesting things in life - all my choice.

I was so glad to see them get the job opportunities they wanted. Hayley has such a good heart. She's one of those gems that make a huge lasting difference in people's lives. I really feel for young people struggling to get a job, especially these days. Their confidence gets pounded flat from rejection after rejection despite putting in the effort. I think most people can relate to that at some point in life. I know I do because I experienced it when I finished school a long time ago. It's hard but people need to remember they're worth it. Your life can change for the better so quickly, so never give up.
My very first job was working in McDonald's when I left school it's a very demanding work environment and it gives you great communication and team work skills giving you great confidence which is key to progressing yourself, and now from having those skills and going into education Im now nursing in a hospital. it's incredibly insulting that tammy thinks it's deemed low to work there it's a sad negative attitude I do hope she has changed and got herself into work.
Hayley you are freaking awesome woman 👩 the way you bring people out of there shells and build them up to be the best they can and believe in themselves is extraordinary. I was jobless after leaving college for 1 year then at 19 worked as a part time customer assistant in food retail. I am now 3 years later a store manager for the same company.
Nothing wrong with working in MC Donald's i heard MC Donald's pays for a lot of there staff to go and do educational courses to help them with getting a better paid job. I can't stand people who judge people on the work they do.

What disgusts me is the "degrading" of workers that get a career in a fast food establishment such as McDonalds. McDonalds can offer it's employees the eventual opportunities to achieve management status and from there that can move on to area manager, etc. It can also give skills such as stock ordering and managing the store making sure things are clean, etc. There is nothing to be ashamed from doing that job. Ignorant people like Tammy most likely expect to eat in a McDonalds and expect a good service despite their low appreciation for the staff.
Having a 20 year old daughter who's at the university and stresses over the unbelievably difficult job matket in Greece where we live, this video really made cry. So inspiring and so positive.
The real burden on our economy are the billionaires. I'm all for people having jobs if they can but a lot of welfare cuts are just kicking people while they're down.
Job Networking Agencies take note: This is the approach you need to adopt if you want to be successful in getting your clients off welfare & back into the workforce. So far after watching this series it's great to see that Hayley's method & approach to job seeking is highly successful & ACTUALLY WORKS! I've participated in jobclubs over the years but not one has offered me the chance to do real work experience in a real work environment organised by the jobclub leader (who really didn't seem to give a s**t). All I did was sit in a classroom with a group of half a dozen other welfare recipients & waste my time doing extensive jobsearch & applying for jobs I knew I didn't stand a chance at getting & repeatedly practice interview techniques which I already knew. Out of all the positions I applied for I didn't gain employment, but if Hayley's caring attitude & technique were to be implemented here in Australia, I'm certain there would definitely be a noticeable difference in jobseeker's self esteem & self confidence. Older jobseekers as well as young, single parents - she doesn't discriminate or make fun of. Everyone who participates is treated equally & with utmost respect, no matter what current life circumstance they're in. No-one gets left behind. Home visits are a bonus too! Ordinary jobclubs don't offer this. They get paid to do a job & don't show any compassion about their client's circumstances, low self-esteem/low self-confidence whatsoever. Getting out of the jobseeking rutt can be tiresome & extremely daunting, but with Hayley's proven method she makes it much easier to get out of. I'm also impressed with Hayley's hands-on, caring approach & attention to those on welfare who display low self-esteem/low self-confidence. This can really impact on those seeking work, especially for those who've been on the welfare treadmill for years, sometimes decades. After years of knockbacks, for some it can be extremely daunting seeking work. Hayley has proven her technique has worked wonders with these people who are looked down upon in society. I also like the idea of her secretly listening in on the job interview. This way, feedback can be given on how well the interviewee answers questions during the interview (if it's recorded) & if the jobseeker is unsuccessful in gaining a position, playing back the recorded interview can help improve answering questions/interview techniques next time. Hayley, you're simply an awesome woman, dedicating your life to helping! I just wish there more people like you in the world!!!
I've seen chief nurses act as porters when needed and registered managers of nursing homes do laundry. No one in social care is above any job required to care for service users. Tammy appears to have no idea

I have a well paid job in a profession. However, if I did become unemployed and could not get work I would absolutely not sit at home and let the state pay my bills. I would work in any job just to get out, interact with other people, and feel that I was supporting myself.
Tammy is a disgrace.She does not want to work in any job but she happily gets the money from the taxpayers.She wants to work in care but is not a caring person at all,starts having attitude and rolling eyes in disgust in the homeless centre.Without the handouts from the taxpayers she would be eating there too.

I used to have 5 p/t jobs at once including cleaning jobs. I worked extremely hard for a period of my time and now I had paid off my mortgage early enough to be able to enjoy my life now on p/t job only. It was not easy but I want to prove to myself that it can be done. I thank my younger self looking after the older me! My motto is: work when you can and when you can't, thank your younger self for making such wise decision to provide for your future self!!
Tammy seems to want a job as CEO with no experience. Haley is right, tammy is being a job snob. Not everyone loves their job, but we do it for an income. Tammy doesn't want help but she's on benefits
I have co-workers who obviously come to work for the money and not the love for the profession. One of my fellow co-workers openly has said to our director "Thank you for the extra shift tomorrow because I'm thinking of the money." With a smile on her face. I was gob smacked.
I don't think not wanting to do certain jobs is necessarily job snobbery, although when it came to Tammy and McDonalds it was. I think sometimes it's about knowing yourself well enough to know what you wouldn't cope with.
@@nifralo2752 I was going to say autistics couldn't do some jobs due to sensory issues. Actually, sales would be the worst job for an autistic. Some might be able to handle a customer service call centre job as long as there was no upselling, and making outbound calls was a very rare occurence.

I really hope that they have grown in confidence and kept their work whatever direction they chose to go in they are all each such lovely characters and genuine people I was so pleased to see how well you all done.

Working at McDonald's is not degrading. Look at how many people eat there. They need to have a good experience and giving them that is a good thing for an employee to do. Also McDs will take an interest in people and promote them. If you show you are up for it you can rise through their ranks. Everyone has to start somewhere. I think it is really bad manners to suggest McD staff are low. They are people working for a better life. So many people want a fast clean place to eat. The staff doing this are good workers.
There's nothing wrong with working at fast food places. Especially for young people, the skills developed include time management, health and safety awareness, customer service, working under pressure in a fast-paced environment, and many more skills that are beneficial to you and your next employer

Sarah here with an update if anyone is interested. I'm now 34 happily married with a 4 year old little boy who sadly is diagnosed with lennox gastaut syndrome. I still work at ATS but in a different position, I wash my hair more often and am still werid but a lot more confident now 😌.

I actually went to one of Hayley's workshops in Birmingham basically I was living on benefits in a flat that was given to me after I'd left foster care, I had no idea how to apply for jobs properly I didn't even know how to write up a CV. I took down notes from her workshop and was able to secure my first paid job in retail the job didn't last but it got my foot in door and now I've worked in care and security fulltime since 2015.

Hayley is incredible, she doesn’t just tell people to get a job she takes the time to understand them and what barriers they have. She really works on the confidence and supports them in what to expect.
She's a saint that woman, her patience is admirable.
I would have smacked the back of that guy's head and said "nobody told you to show up on time?" when he started blaming his issues on nobody teaching him how to manage in life. To me all these people except the red-head blamed their unemployment on somebody else. I suspect she's on the spectrum and needs more specialised help.

Same here, I did every job under the sun when I was in uni, old people’s home , baby sitting, etc. my first job at 16 was at McDonald’s. I can’t even feel sorry for Tammy with that snobbish attitude. Being on welfare for no reason is even beneath McDonald’s

To tell you the truth, I know a kid who has failed his maths and English GCSES and he is doing some sort of care qualification. Frankly, the care agency has tons of jobs going in caring for elderly. As you say loads of people with degrees struggle to get a job and would be pleased to work in food, better than working cleaning sewers.

@@banana9106 I have worked in social care for 10 years now, I love my job dearly but it really is not for everyone, in my last position in the private sector we had our local job centre who just threw young people at us, these young folk were assisting with personal care, dealing with clients who were chalenging and never lasted more than a few days. Life experience plays a massive part in this job and young folk have not accrued that, it takes a certain nature to do this job its certainlynot for everyone.
I do wish this was compulsory before you leave school because no one really prepares you for real world interviews except a brief touch. Should be mandatory. What a fabulous job she does!
They DO offer career adviser,, help with work experience etc... It's not compulsory, but Nothings stopping people from going and just choose to sigh on to job seekers when they leave.

I was bullied at school and my home life wasn’t great. Once I left school I used drugs and ended up on the benefits for the next 10 years. I had zero confidence and just dreamed about being a pop star. I couldn’t face the reality of doing menial labour for 40 hours a week so I just survived instead of living. In the end I got really sick of that life and I gave up drugs and started my own business cleaning. Best thing I ever did. May not have ended up being a pop star but I’m in my 50s now and never looked back. I don’t have a lot of money but I’m independent and look after my own needs and I feel proud.
I clicked on one of these episodes thinking it would be a good laugh, I’m four episodes in now and it’s such a feel good heart warming show. This lady is an absolute angel.

This is what should be part of the school curriculum. Especially, for those children who are in situations like these young people. The local business communities need to work with schools, to mentor children to achieve their potential. In the last year of high-school we're given work expericance, shown how to write CVs, how to fill out an application etc... So it IS taught to us. Some teens just choose not to listen and take the opportunity and advice when it's given.

Some of these people are products of there own environment, it takes more than being shown how to do a cv and a bit of work experience, subjects like e.g French, music...could be replaced with things that are going to be needed in everyday life as an adult to get you places with a better chance of doing something with your life.

Hahaha. I'm a support worker. I clean toilets, scrub showers, make meals, hand feed clients, change wound dressings, shower and dress them, vacuum, mop, do their shopping, wash their clothes, make their bed. Occasionally I get to take them out to lunch or bingo etc, but the bulk is doing their day to day care they can no longer manage. If she has studied and became qualified for this, she would know this is what it entails.
I think she means she wants to be a social worker. They purely refer people to the agencies, paperwork etc.

Couldn't be more happy for Thomas. Did you see how made up and happy he was when the others got jobs? Despite the fact he'd been turned down at that point. What a genuine guy, you could see it in his face. I think sometimes a lot of pressure and adversity early in life makes people bitter and hateful, but other times it forges a diamond. I have a strong suspicion he's the latter.

What this demonstrates is that what people need is to be listened to and helped to identify what they have to offer. That isn't always obvious or automatic. Stop demonising people on benefits, stop demanding they just 'get a job' and *help* them. It is so much better for everyone involved.

My 16 year old son works at McDonald’s while he waits to join the army college in March. Its a hard and demanding job and some of the abuse they get is disgusting. The way that Tammy was making faces and gipping in front of the people she was serving is disgusting. I am a social worker and believe me we see a lot worse conditions, to be a social worker you need to actually care for people no matter what they look like or even how they smell there Should be no judgement. She needs a reality check, looking at her Facebook she’s now a s mum to 3 boys so this must have been filmed a while ago hopefully she’s changed her attitude I wish them all the luck

@@Mjk10957 thank you he’s defiantly getting impatient now he was supposed to go in September 2021 he passed his fitness test in fact he passed it that well it was good enough to get into the parras and he passed his medical until the doctor noticed he has a bit of over crowding with his front teeth and said he needed braces before he can join so we’re trying to get a dentist which is literally like pulling teeth no ones taking on and as it’s getting closer to March it’s stressing him out it’s all he’s ever wanted from being a young child and something as silly as a dental problem is standing in the way they cause him no pain and he was never planning on braces

Working at McDonald's is nothing to be embarrased about. My job there allowed me to afford my college course many years ago. I'm always grateful they even gave me a chance. It also taught me a lot about working, time management, and many other aspects of the working world.

Agreed, you should not look down on people that are doing something for you. Those working hard and getting paid low wages should be respected and valued. I think Tammy doesn't realise that she is not better or worse than anyone else, and it is just not nice to look down on someone to make yourself feel better. But I think she will get a better perspective and understanding by actually working and having more experience.
@@a.m.3567 I did the same and it's not as easy as people seem to think, especially if your studying because you working long hours which just about pays enough for uni, going to classes an extra work when you get home and that aswell as dealing with arleast 3 or "karens" screaming at you everyday. It wasn't the best of jobs or the highest paying, but got me through uni

Interesting how Tammy really limits herself with a closed mindset. She hasnt matured since school and seems to struggle to open her mind to developing any skills or experience. I love how Hayley tells her what she sees about her negativity directly.
Hayley is a wonderful person I wish employers at the job centre had only 5% of her enthusiasm and empathy. The key to turning lives around is to catch young people early and make them understand that their past never defines their future. They must be encouraged and by simply re-discovering their dreams believing in themselves and a future again. Lack of confidence, negative self believe and fear of the unknown is often the biggest challenge to overcome. She helped all on their way with professionalism, tough love BUT most of all the kindness and care they needed to come out of their shell and to open up. Really love this series and I hope that a lot of young people take inspiration from this because no matter where where we come from, no matter how much pain we carry inside, we can all decide on a goal and then step by step move towards it, time is a great healer but we all need to focal point in life.
It's the individuals repsonsibilty to find a job like anywhere else in the world and not the jobcenters.thry can jus show that these jobs are open..they cannot drive anyone to an employer

A friend of mine's family got so uppity, their son thought he was too good for McDonald's. He ended up not getting any work and once in his mid 20s, he became unemployable no one would have him (including McDonald's) - he was too old and had no work experience.
His mum got fwd up with him living at home, so pays his rent for years and ongoing.
I was born in 1955. Got my school diploma aged 16. Left my home in Spain. My parents gave me a one way ticket to The Netherlands. My biological father and his wife took me in. Within 3 months learned Dutch and found a job. I will retire in a couple of months after almost 50 years of fulltime working at least 40 hours per week, never depending on anyone else. In my large family including all those living in southern America, Spain and Germany (with one exception only), not working is a shame, something that is absolutely not done. Even in times of economic crisis like in the 80s and beginning of 2000, we never lost a job. Coincidence? I do not think so. It is a matter of wanting and willing. But I do absolutely understand some do need help......and there is Hayley for those with lesser chances.
Learned a new language and got a job within 3 months? Amazing..my mum and dad did the same as migrants - Hayley is lazy and entitled. I am so grateful my parents were hard working and not too proud to take any job that was available to them.
American, and graduated during the Great Recession. Spoke Mandarin and had a BA, but couldn't find ANY job for 9 months. Left after working 2 years to get a MA from John's Hopkins. Learned Shaanxi dialect (actually a language), worked as a professor in China. Met an Iranian, fell in love and had 2 kids. Learned Persian and Azeri Turkish. Now I'm a professor in Iran, and applying for my Italian citizenship through ancestry. Take those jobs. Be mobile. Keep updating your skills, and combine truly unique skills.

Anyone could see she wasn't the best at personal grooming. With Hayley addressing the issue in a kind and straightforward manner, Sarah was able to make the necessary corrections. Evidently nobody has ever said these things to her, and she's suffering as a result. She obviously felt alot better and more confident after she cleaned up, and Hayley was very positive about it.

There was nothing like this in the 60's to prepare you for jobs; I didn't have a great deal of confidence at interviews, and found it difficult to relate to people. It would have been great to have somebody like Hayley.
There still isn't for regular people. I've never had any problems, but many of my friends and family have. They get absolutely no help from anyone. Someone calls them every few months and tells them they should find work already, like they don't already know that. This is a tv show, nothing like the reality.

This is just so rewarding to watch, Hayley is such a lovely, lovely woman and I wish everyone could have a Hayley in their lives.
Another amazing thing was how I got my first full-time job back in 1995 for a call center. I signed up at a temporary job agency who found the job for me and I was only going to stay over Christmas. However, I wanted a full-time job so much that I gave it 110%. I was very polite with the customers and with my coworkers. I gave it all I had, and I was very attentive in training. One day, immediately after Christmas, my boss called me into her office and said that we really like what we hear from you and what you were doing. How would you like to join us full-time? To say the least, I was ecstatic. I said, when do I start full-time? As soon as my temporary contract is up, they told me, you will start full-time. It was amazing. I went to the temp agency and they had already heard about it, and they were so proud of me!

My mum has no qualifications or any experience in the carer industry, but 2 months ago she apied for a job in a care home and the hired her on the spot and she gets training on the job

I wish we had a careers lady like Hayley when we were at school. I'll never forget my careers talk\meeting.. she was bored, didn't help me with ideas. I hadn't a clue what I'd be when I left school. I hadn't even considered further education. I was only young. She told me I'll be a flower arranger . I'm sure it's a great job but I didn't feel inspired once I'd been told that's my career path set in stone. Everyone else got lawyer or veterinarian. I got that. FFS. So anyway.. if you need any flowers arranging... I'm your mermaid.

You're lucky. Because I didn't want to go to Uni or Teacher Training college, I was told my best avenues would be policewoman, nurse or secretary. Anyway, that was back in 1971, and one can only hope that times have changed since then! _PS_ I've done many and various interesting things in life - all my choice.

I was so glad to see them get the job opportunities they wanted. Hayley has such a good heart. She's one of those gems that make a huge lasting difference in people's lives. I really feel for young people struggling to get a job, especially these days. Their confidence gets pounded flat from rejection after rejection despite putting in the effort. I think most people can relate to that at some point in life. I know I do because I experienced it when I finished school a long time ago. It's hard but people need to remember they're worth it. Your life can change for the better so quickly, so never give up.
My very first job was working in McDonald's when I left school it's a very demanding work environment and it gives you great communication and team work skills giving you great confidence which is key to progressing yourself, and now from having those skills and going into education Im now nursing in a hospital. it's incredibly insulting that tammy thinks it's deemed low to work there it's a sad negative attitude I do hope she has changed and got herself into work.
Customer service is imperative to a lot of jobs! Why would you not want to get some in a busy environment? 🤷♀️

What disgusts me is the "degrading" of workers that get a career in a fast food establishment such as McDonalds. McDonalds can offer it's employees the eventual opportunities to achieve management status and from there that can move on to area manager, etc. It can also give skills such as stock ordering and managing the store making sure things are clean, etc. There is nothing to be ashamed from doing that job. Ignorant people like Tammy most likely expect to eat in a McDonalds and expect a good service despite their low appreciation for the staff.
Having a 20 year old daughter who's at the university and stresses over the unbelievably difficult job matket in Greece where we live, this video really made cry. So inspiring and so positive.

The real burden on our economy are the billionaires. I'm all for people having jobs if they can but a lot of welfare cuts are just kicking people while they're down.

So far after watching this series it's great to see that Hayley's method & approach to job seeking is highly successful & ACTUALLY WORKS!
I've participated in jobclubs over the years but not one has offered me the chance to do real work experience in a real work environment organised by the jobclub leader (who really didn't seem to give a s**t). All I did was sit in a classroom with a group of half a dozen other welfare recipients & waste my time doing extensive jobsearch & applying for jobs I knew I didn't stand a chance at getting & repeatedly practice interview techniques which I already knew. Out of all the positions I applied for I didn't gain employment, but if Hayley's caring attitude & technique were to be implemented here in Australia, I'm certain there would definitely be a noticeable difference in jobseeker's self esteem & self confidence.
Older jobseekers as well as young, single parents - she doesn't discriminate or make fun of. Everyone who participates is treated equally & with utmost respect, no matter what current life circumstance they're in. No-one gets left behind. Home visits are a bonus too! Ordinary jobclubs don't offer this. They get paid to do a job & don't show any compassion about their client's circumstances, low self-esteem/low self-confidence whatsoever. Getting out of the jobseeking rutt can be tiresome & extremely daunting, but with Hayley's proven method she makes it much easier to get out of.
I'm also impressed with Hayley's hands-on, caring approach & attention to those on welfare who display low self-esteem/low self-confidence. This can really impact on those seeking work, especially for those who've been on the welfare treadmill for years, sometimes decades. After years of knockbacks, for some it can be extremely daunting seeking work. Hayley has proven her technique has worked wonders with these people who are looked down upon in society.
I also like the idea of her secretly listening in on the job interview. This way, feedback can be given on how well the interviewee answers questions during the interview (if it's recorded) & if the jobseeker is unsuccessful in gaining a position, playing back the recorded interview can help improve answering questions/interview techniques next time.

Ohhhh Tammy, even the highest clinic nurse will go to the kitchen and get food for their patients, and then feed them. Nobody is above anything.
I've seen chief nurses act as porters when needed and registered managers of nursing homes do laundry. No one in social care is above any job required to care for service users. Tammy appears to have no idea

I have a well paid job in a profession. However, if I did become unemployed and could not get work I would absolutely not sit at home and let the state pay my bills. I would work in any job just to get out, interact with other people, and feel that I was supporting myself.

Nothing wrong working in Mcdonalds. I used to have 5 p/t jobs at once including cleaning jobs. I worked extremely hard for a period of my time and now I had paid off my mortgage early enough to be able to enjoy my life now on p/t job only.
It was not easy but I want to prove to myself that it can be done.
I thank my younger self looking after the older me!

I have co-workers who obviously come to work for the money and not the love for the profession. One of my fellow co-workers openly has said to our director "Thank you for the extra shift tomorrow because I'm thinking of the money." With a smile on her face. I was gob smacked.

@@nifralo2752 I was going to say autistics couldn't do some jobs due to sensory issues. Actually, sales would be the worst job for an autistic. Some might be able to handle a customer service call centre job as long as there was no upselling, and making outbound calls was a very rare occurence.

Working at McDonald's is not degrading. Look at how many people eat there. They need to have a good experience and giving them that is a good thing for an employee to do. Also McDs will take an interest in people and promote them. If you show you are up for it you can rise through their ranks. Everyone has to start somewhere. I think it is really bad manners to suggest McD staff are low. They are people working for a better life. So many people want a fast clean place to eat. The staff doing this are good workers.
There's nothing wrong with working at fast food places. Especially for young people, the skills developed include time management, health and safety awareness, customer service, working under pressure in a fast-paced environment, and many more skills that are beneficial to you and your next employer
