    Yes, our zoo doesn't put animals in cages. The Keepers are knowledgable and have a genuine love for the animals they care for. They have done a lot of good work over the years.

    The Zoo is one of my favourite places in Singapore since I was a child..
    And I had the amazing chance to work in the Zoo about 10 years ago..
    I was there when the Pandas came and when Inuka's enclosure was opened..
    These precious babies have such personalities, it's amazing.. the way they recognise the staff uniform and how their demeanour completely changes.. its so cute to see
    Esp the Lions behaving like babies to their keepers.. too cute..
    Truely a wonderful place..
    I always recommend it to my friends when they are here in Singapore 😊

    We spent 6 - 8 hours there one time we went - it is truly amazing. Hearing the weirdest noise when our backs were to the Giant Tortoises we turned around to see we had just missed the act of copulation, It must have been the fastest thing those animals do! We sat and watched the white tigers for ages, and lots of groups passed through and missed seeing them altogether. Well worth allowing time

    There are 4 things you should always have in your bag whenever you go Singapore Zoo/River Wonders/Night Safari/Bird Paradise, (1) a towel (wipe sweat/rain), (2) empty water bottle as there's water cooler near toilet entrance where you can refill, (3) light snacks (e.g. curry puff/bread/bun/energy bars) that you can eat on at resting areas to regain energy, and (4) poncho/umbrella so even if it rains, you can still walk around (you paid so much for the entrance fees you don't want to have to quit halfway), you'd be amazed to see all the animals that usually hide behind bushes/trees coz of the heat will come out roaming around as the weather is cooling after the short torrential rain/shower. - btw River Wonders has sheltered walkways so no need poncho, if needed you can buy poncho/umbrellas in the souvenir shop but...$$$ (ex). Warnings: Do not carry around with you plastic bags that attract wild monkeys to snatch from you.

      Very good tips there, thanks for sharing! We’ve been to the zoo in the rain too 😆 and you’re right, sometimes you see more after a rain shower. And at least in Singapore when it rains it’s still warm, unlike other countries where it just gets cold. So you soon dry off and stay warm 😀

      Going to SG Zoo is like going into the forest to watch animals. Unlike other zoos, sg zoo focus on the animals and it's welfare. Happy animals happy visitors. Frankly, other does have the best collection of animals but it definitely has the best environment for resident animals and visitors. High admission rate is probably my only complaint.

    • @WONDERLUSTworld
      @WONDERLUSTworld  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes I'd agree, we went to a smaller zoo in Australia and it reminded me again how amazing Singapore zoo is. I guess the cost of the admission plays a part of keeping the animals so well too. We have membership and find we get more than our money's worth over the year with the four parks, especially when we have friends and family visiting. Often for Christmas and our kids' birthday's we say to family members that if they'd like to contribute to zoo membership instead of gifts we'd appreciate it, then we can enjoy it all year long and make lots of memories.

      @@WONDERLUSTworld I think its more of the engagement you get from the people working in the zoo. But if you are talking about the place, it would be inuka previously enclosure seen on 3:36. That place brings back memories of excursions where my class would just sit there and admire at Inuka.

      The staff there are great, always happy to ask questions and seem to genuinely care for the animals and the visitors experience. The immersiveness is what I feel make the Singapore Zoo special. In the newly opened Bird Paradise next door, a lot of the birds are free-flying in just a huge aviary, there is a massive mesh net that covers the entire park so that there is no need to cram flying animals in small cages. This makes it look like the entire park has an open air plan from the ground point of view, and there are different species co-habitating in sections of the park dedicated to different areas of the world

    • @WONDERLUSTworld
      @WONDERLUSTworld  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great way to explain in. I felt like the new paradise was one lovely long walk through different nature areas as it’s set up so well you do forget the nets are even there. Did you see our video on it? We went along on opening. I’d like to head back to the bird paradise soon. I’m sure we missed things on our first trip as there is so much to explore.

      @@WONDERLUSTworld Really glad you liked the park! Yea! I saw your video about Bird Paradise. When I visited it, I felt they really did exceed all my expectations. It's really one of those places where you have to go multiple times because there's just THAT much to take in. And not to mention since the animals are free flying, I definitely missed a bunch of them. In fact, I recently invested in a pair of binoculars specifically to help in my bird illustrations. I am quite excited to return on the next long weekend. I hope you'll discover lots more during your next visit too!

    • @kaijiale
      @kaijiale 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yeah, such a pity if you rush through coz if you stick/sit around longer, you will be able to spot those animals that normally hide behind the bushes/trees to keep cool. Great way to keep cool is to alternate between the outdoor exhibits and the indoor exhibits which has strong AC. Must ensure to bring a towel and drink lots of water to dehydrate, also bring poncho/umbrella in case it rains. Many visitors give up walking around the zoo when it rains (coz the tram is always packed) but it is a really pity to give up coz all the animals will come out roaming around as the weather is cooling after the short torrential rain/shower.

      It is hot but as one commenter said drink plenty of water, you can fill up bottles for free around the park. There are many little cool off areas with shade and fans as you go around too. I sometimes walk with an umbrella to beat some of the heat.
      Perhaps try the night Safari, it will be a little cooler 😊

And if you don’t mind getting wet sit at the front 😉 we stop for a half hour or so lunch and a few other water breaks along the way. We tend to arrive around 10am. This way you don’t have to zoom around the park but can sit and watch for a while too. You can book ahead for animal feedings which are also fun. no zoo is good. but given all zoos are bad the Singapore zoo is one of the better ones. Zoos should be phased out globally... what crime did the animal do to be imprisoned. Wildlife sanctuaries are very important though - where the sanctuary is in the animals natural habitat area, eg Borneo with its Orangutan sanctuaries. This is better for the wildlife as they live in large protected environments and many can be reintroduced back into the wild from zoos. and provides education and income for the local communities who have historically killed them or captured them for zoos. documentaries should be a decent enough replacement for a wildlife experience than staring at an animal in a cage/enclosure... and not all animals in zoos are endangered... what did the zebra do wrong - not endangered - i would rather the zebra be left in its native environment and especially the birds in caged aviaries.. poor things..

    • @WONDERLUSTworld
      @WONDERLUSTworld  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I agree with this actually, I guess with Singapore’s tourism and ticket sales, they are able to do a lot more conservation with it than without. I feel torn to be honest. I see Singapore Zoo doing so much good. There’s definitely something more meaningful about seeing the animals in person. Also, there are some rescued animals at Singapore Zoo, which are unable to be re-wilded, so it’s great that they are giving them a home - and a good one at that. And the breeding programs are awesome for endangered species.. I think that’s it - in the presence of reckless and sometimes ruthless humanity, it’s great to have zoos that do what they do for species and animals…

      @@WONDERLUSTworld nice response. there are estimated over 10000 zoos globally.. ii imagine only a tiny fraction of them actually do any form of 'give back' to the bigger wildlife picture and most are simply profit making machines all at the animals expense.. i have seen many really bad ones - (istanbul - a bear in a cage it could not turn round in / syria a wolf pitch forked to death cause it bit a kids finger thru a really small cage it was confined in) . It would be great if Singapore for example only kept animals native to south east asia with a strong rehab process back into the wild.. or turn pulau ubin into a large national park with native south east asian animals.. there are some animals like Rhino which need to be kept in dispersed geograpraphics due to them bordering on extinction but other animals i think no need to zoo them as it is cruel. hoping we look back in 50 years time and remember the 'sad' old days when we needed physical zoos to make us feel 'special' but now fully replaced by 'reality online wildlife engagements'

      The "wilds" isn't as free and easy as you think it is. I did some checking up before with that polar bear in captivity and from what I found out, polar bears live on average 7 years in the wild before being killed and eaten. That polar bear they kept in captivity lived till 27 so I've to ask, is freedom worth being killed and eaten by other animals? Polar bears often can only live their full lifespan in captivity, outside, they often die before they can grow old.

    • @sweetsweet3753
      @sweetsweet3753 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danielc2701 my google says 15-18years in the wild (but can live up to 30 years). Polar bears are apex predators so they are not killed or eaten (unless by humans) or possibly mothers killed so cubs can be captured to be sold to zoos... so polar bear sanctuaries in the northern habitats closer to their home range is great - but as a prisoner in a zoo in the tropics for 30 years = not cool.

      I love the zoo for the reason of seeing them live instead of just seeing them on the papers and phones or tv. It's a different experience when you get to witness these creatures upclose. Especially when it can be eye opening to Children. But i do understand the Zoo isnt for everyone cause of the long walks, humid weather sometimes raining and also cause depending on the comfortable time you wanna go most of them are sleeping or hiding. Hence it ruins the experiences. For me, I do wildlife Photography in Sg so I will always enjoy visiting the Zoo and the rest of the attractions.
