    Singapore Zoo:
    The Singapore Zoo, formerly known as the Singapore Zoological Gardens or Mandai Zoo, occupies 28 hectares (69 acres) on the margins of Upper Seletar Reservoir within Singapore's heavily forested central catchment area. The zoo was built at a cost of $9 million granted by the government of Singapore and opened on 27 June 1973. It is operated by Mandai Wildlife Reserve, which also manage the neighbouring Night Safari, River Wonders and the Jurong Bird Park. There are about 315 species of animal in the zoo, of which some 16 percent are considered to be threatened species. The zoo attracts over 2 million visitors every year.
    From the beginning, Singapore Zoo followed the modern trend of displaying animals in naturalistic, 'open' exhibits with hidden barriers, moats, and glass between the animals and visitors. It houses the largest captive colony of orangutans in the world.

    It brings back a lot of memory. We lived in Singapore from 1996 to 2013. My two boys were born in Singapore, and this was their favorite place to visit. Not much has changed, it seems.

    As a child, visiting the zoo it was frustrating if you couldn't easily spot the animals because their natural rhythm was to sleep somewhere in hiding. Well done on capturing quite a few on your video. :)

    i dont mind zoos, as long as their enclosure is LARGE for what ever animal, (if they were out in the wild, they wouldnt be in a tiny puddle or cage) and I dont like to see poor animals ALONE with no other animal of the same type in there with them, it would be maddening and lonely for them.

    • @andreasmeyer4777
      @andreasmeyer4777 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Typical comment for people with no zoological background. It is no matter of size, that makes an enclosure good or bad for an animal. And, a lot of animals live a solitary life, so company is also not a need for them. I wish people would make themselves a bit more educated before making comments.

      I definitely agree with that, but there are actually some good impacts zoos have in hopes of conservations and rehabilitation centre, since most of those animals wouldn't be able to survive naturally in the wild.. since people would be people, they're so vulnerable to poaching, hunting, and illegal pet trade, that they're better off stay in a good and well-maintained zoo.
