I just found out my 9 year old son has Covid, I'm a single mom, his dad died when he was 5 months old in a car accident and it's just the two of us and I'm terrified and this just really calmed me and brought a smile to my face. I just got him to sleep and said, let me see what's on the Dodo, just trying to cope and stay calm! Totally helped! Love you Bernie and Galaxy! Please, pray for my Owen that he gets well soon! Whatever you believe in, please send good vibes and well wishes! And I'll be sending them out to all of you!

omg I just made myself laugh though, talking about my pet rat here that I had so many decades ago as a kid (in the 80s)... I just realized I still automatically referred to the rat as a “he,” without even thinking twice about it, and that is because I named it “Mister.”
Well, I found out when it came time to put it to sleep due to cancer that it was a SHE, and I had been referring to HER wrong her entire life of 2 1/2 years! Lol.
When I brought her in to get put down, the poor wee girl with a massive stomach tumor, the vet looked at me perplexed and said “why did you name your little girl right here ‘Mister?’ Did you know that if it was a little boy, it would have an extra body part that isn’t present here on ‘Mister?’” 😂 Needless to say, my parents weren’t very involved, and that slipped right past them too that I had named a female ball-less rat, “Mister.” ;)

I wish rats lived longer. They are 100% one of the most precious loving little creatures I've ever had the delight to own. I have 3 dogs and a cat now. I've had maybe 30 rats throughout my teens. Beautiful little souls but the spark goes out so soon..too soon.
Too soon doesn’t begin to describe it. I’ve only had 3 rats total, 2 as of the time I’m writing this. They’re some of the most underrated and loving creatures I’ve met. I love everything about them, from their little feet to their tails and teeth.
I've always loved rats, but I couldn't have one. I know I'd fall complete in love and the longest I could have him/her with me would be two years. It just doesn't seem fair that they have such a short lifespan!
I always had hamsters when i was growing up and i cried for days every time one of them died. They were the best animals ive ever had. I know its not a rat but they are underestimated the same way. I absolutely adored my hampsters and they adored me.
They are defo still around us in spirit. Mine certainly are. They are loyal and loving to the soul

since the cat is domesticated, I assume the hunting instincts are kind of dormant, as long as it receives food in a plate. Not sure about cats, but there was an experiment with dogs, that how long does it take for a pet dog to go back to their wild habits and hunting after they are released from their home. The result was that within too weeks in average they went full-on wild predators in an organized pack, just like wolves.
Galaxy has no need of toys; she's got Bernie - best toy, and friend to be had.
I’ve found that cats who are well-fed and only “hunt” for fun, usually with their toys, are more open to engaging with an animal that a cat would normally hunt to kill. And I do believe they see how you’re treating that animal the same as you treat them and they make the connection. Cats are infinitely clever beings.

The rat is clingy towards the cat because the rat doesn't have a play mate. Rats are social creatures and need other rat company.
idk, I feel like the same thing would happen even if their was two of them BUT I think it mostly depends on the individual animal. Some individuals are way more hostile then others whether it be cause by pain, trauma, or differences in their brains neurochemisty. Basically, you can never guarantee ANYONE will just get along, but hopefully through effort and compassion that compassion can be passed on.

Last December, my favorite rat, Butterscotch, died. She was very sweet, and very smart too. I remember how I could let her run around my room, and trust that she would stay in there. And when I would go back to my room, she would run to me as fast as possible. I was able to potty train her just by putting her back in the cage every time she went potty on me, and she could hold it in for three hours. I miss her.

Well, he wasn't a kitten at that time but was at one time. Baby Rats are called kittens, as well as other baby animals like Foxes (called Kits for short) and many others! So, yeah, technically you could say he is/was a kitten 😊
