The founding members of Return to Forever, keyboardist Chick Corea and bassist Stanley Clarke, recently hung out at Chick’s masterclass, video production studio - Mad Hatter Studios East. The occasion was to deliver a free online music workshop to musicians all over the world. In this session, the inside story behind the classic album Light as a Feather is told.
Light as a Feather was the band’s second release with Flora Purim on vocals, Joe Farrell on sax/flute and Airto Moreira on drums. The album has become a total classic and includes Chick’s most popular composition, "Spain."
The storyline in this video reveals how Stanley’s first-ever composition ends up being the title track of this timeless Return to Forever record. And a huge bonus is seeing these long-time friends and musical partners deliver a beautiful duet version of Stanley’s tune.

It's great to see an overhead view of Chick play. Nothing like his G phrygian pedal. A timeless tune and performance.

You were my ticket into jazz. First, it was Return to Forever, now I am trying to learn my favorite album of yours, The Mad Hatter. Playing along somehow has helped my tempo. You and Steve Gadd have noticeable chemistry, as do you and Stanley.

Hey Chick, I have always admired your music. Glad to hear you and Staley play this tune again. I grew up with your music and always hoped to jam with you. I would also like to see you and Stanley do a show with Flora and Airto playing some of the early RTF stuff. I have fun learning the bass lines to your music all these years. Thanks for all of the great music you bring us.

Dear Chick, I want to thank you for so, so many years of musical enjoyment!!.....A huge influence to me,as a drummer....Many years back I sent you a mix of my drumming that I performed/mixed recorded to your live rendition of"Spain" back when you and Bobby Mcferrin were doing a duo "Play". I received a kind letter from you, and a phone call from Bobby M. !!..A wonderful treat! I would really enjoy you checking out my youtube drum page/channel, if you get a moment. Thank you again for the fantastic, and awesome music you have performed/recorded for all of us! Todd Walker

When I was 19, Chick Corea introduced me to the world of jazz music, and I've been listening to him every day ever since. Saw him three times live. His music changed my life by making the world a far better place. My favorite piano player and American composer in one single person. Why wouldn't I be a diehard fan ?

I have always loved this tune and I am trying to get it together for my guitar trio. I have a chart for it from the Real Book and was just wondering about a few of the chords and how one should approach them. on my chart the chord after the Bm7 is a E7#9b13 which makes sense, but then the next bar is written as E7#9.13 then to a G7#9.13 - so are we talking a diminished kind of sound over these two bars, or is it an error in the chart and should all the 13s be flat? Also, the F7's - are they to be treated as F7b9 kind of thing? any insight would be greatly appreciated. thanks
