What a beautiful base
I’m always amazed at the Level of control Steve Gadd has. Never overplays, yet contributes to the overall intensity level of the group in his own stylistic ways. Genius! The interplay between all the musicians here is phenomenal. My favorite part is during the guitar solo - amazing interplay between he and Chick, but it is also between all other members between themselves as duos as well as the entire group. It’s like that all have 5 ears! I appreciate all 24 minutes of this!
He uses space so well, that's what makes his grooves so good, he knows when not to play and let the rhythm breathe.
His career was built on song construction and the role drums plays in those songs. Even his solos are designed the way a song is constructed .
Buddy Rich thought of him as the finest drummer, after himself:)
From an interview from 1978
I caught up with Gadd backstage after a gig with the North Texas State University 1:00 band back in the early 80s. I told him I first heard him on chick’s leprechaun album and loved how he somehow seemed to play the tune’s melodies on the kit note for note. He responded that he learned a lot about playing drums from chick.
Hm, interesting. We the family disagree! @Jazz-life if only you could ask Chick. Steve was more than well-fitted. You do understand that Chick has a certain role in Steve's style, right? Steve learned many things from him.
The older I get, the more I appreciate Gadd's drumming! Now I understand what everyone was talking about when I was younger. RIP Chick, thank you for the music!
Return To Forever, Chick. RIP
Superb. Corea and Gadd together. Band above
Tears in my eyes.
It's sometimes easy to forget just how formidable a drummer Steve Gadd has been - and on evidence of this performance, still is - on the drum set, particularly when we have such an array of impressively explosive drummers out there now. It's only when you watch a video like this that you realise where it ALL came from. So much of his playing has inspired generations of drummers. A remarkable achievement. Long live SG.
And he's not up there messing around, he's pushing the song along and then getting out of the way. I like that he doesn't play a ton of fills and show off, he is tasteful.
Yes dear friend ! exemple >>>th-cam.com/video/NOZODQuEH7A/w-d-xo.html
Amazing pocket and some great chops!
He’s definitely the epitome of groove, taste, sensibility and style. I hope the new generation of musicians especially drummers can appreciate his artistry and contribution to the world of music.
@@Twoholesofman agree
Watching Gadd seamlessly flow through time, tempo changes and his general relaxed approach to drums remains inspirational. What a great band!
Yes Steve Gadd one of the best anyway !!!
The guy is pure music!
@@Kassiusday :)
absolutely friends
@@mitchelgadd Mitch knows Steve !! but does Steve knows Mitch ????
We miss you, Chick! You inspired so many people around the world with your music. I think I realized how much your music meant to me, when you were gone. Fortunately, the music lives on.
RIP dear beloved Chick Corea. May you RETURN To FOREVER beautiful soul..❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏
RIP Chick. Your music lives on in all those you've influenced. Thanks for the magic you brought.
Something else to be said about Chick is: how he LISTENS. As the music grooves ahead, you can see how Chick attunes himself to his fellow players---eyes roving, ears open. Notice, for example, the intimate way Chick digs into what Lionel is putting out. Chick happily sustains Lionel's energy, but he also invites L into what appears to be a spontaneous duet. You can see it all from 9:00 to 12:00. Their shared contact deepens what the moment offers. On this day---2/14/2021---it looks like Chick is sending Lionel a valentine.
Their bit of interplay during Lionel's solo was my favorite part of the whole piece
Goodbye Chick, and thank you, your music will live on forever.
I think it cant get any better than this, Corea and Gadd are ageless
Yupp!
Lionel Loueke one of the most significant guitarists in the last 50 years with something new to say
These guys have gone where no amount of technique could take you without the ears and the heart as your guides. Sublime...
These guys show that music is Big Fun. Thank you Chick. Your creativity was infinite.
RIP Master Corea, your music will live forever
RIP ❤️
79 years Chick, 75 years Steve, return to forever, makes me feel young and positive for my further musiacl future (67)
indeed! RIP Chick
R i p Master. 🙏 Merci pour votre musique et des beaux moments d'humanité..🙏🙏🎶🎵🎵🎶
Master indeed.
Rest in Peace Sir! Thank you for your immense contribution to Jazz and the Arts! Your composition mastery will continue to be celebrated!
That is gorgeous! Just really getting into Chick. Saw a great interview that Rick Beato did with Steve Gadd, that took Me down the rabbit hole :) Love how Chick watches the other players, it reminds Me of Dave Brubeck. Very cool!
Lionel’s performance is out of this world. Never head anything like this before
He was really having a deep conversation with Chick when he was soloing
I love this because Gadd is just doing Gadd things while the bass player and the percussion player just vibe (in the best way) and Chic and the sax and drum player just duke it out.
Seamless conversation among the drum and percussion is amazing
Drums are percussion, no? . Did you mean drums and brass?
Back to the 70’s.. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT...... Thank you Mr. Corea....... It reminds me of practising 8 hours every day most of which to your music. Mr. Corea you changed the world for the better... Love and peace to you.... Keep safe.... :)
Every musician who's ever played with him has become a better musician because of it, one the few real greats.. RIP maestro🙏
Only got to see Chick Corea perform twice, but so glad I did. What an amazing talent. Thank you for the gift of music you shared with the world.
The control Steve has on the band, groove plus tempo with subtle awareness of a click in mind is truly amazing.
Thank you, we the family always appreciate Steve's continuous fan support. Each individual in his group is a true master; RIP Chick.
the bass line is soo good on this... obviously Gadd's best work shines here
Chick at his best..... great complex, melodic song.... yet exciting, & warm hearted, ...tight groove band...creative, inventive solos! Fabulous all around, thanks for posting!

Are you a music reviewer? Lol! Great descriptions!
@@1catmac Kent is a good musician as well :) Check his YT channel.
Exactly how I feel - complex music, but so accessible and stirring
♥♥
Gadd is 72 years old here, and still at the top of his game. Corea and Gadd is a great combo. The whole band is top notch, which is no surprise.
These guys age is youthful..Master at the craft
Gadd is one scary drummer. Amazing.
Chick is almost 80
RIP Chick
When Steve Gadd plays, the band is tight. He elevates it. His dynamics are incredible. Every cymbal hit, etc ..
We lost a legend. I used to listen to My Spanish Heart, Friends, The Mad Hatter, The Leprechaun, Three Quartets, ... every day after school.
Me too ! I still have some of the compositions from those albums on my iPhone !
Rest well Grand Master Armando Corea !
And music magic album
Thank you Chick !!! Your music is always in my heart...
Chick is just magnificent and Gadd is of course a genius. Loved the whole band. Really inspiring!
This whole thing is so good, but the guitar solo is completely fearless, unconventional, & the band plus Chick coalesce under and with the guitar soloist. Each chorus, the music goes to a higher level. I can watch this video over and over. Thank you Master Chick Corea RIP - rest in power - and salute to every single great musician who has performed/recorded with Armando over many years.
Descansa en paz Chick.....siempre estaras en nuestros corazones ,gracias por tu generosidad.
Steve's switch to that groove at 20:30 is bloody awesome, keeping the clave timing in it - yeah!
Absolutely fantastic ensemble performance. Steve bringin the pain as always. He plays so hard and is so solid. I love Chick's expressions during the tune. You can tell he's so happy with whats being created. Beautiful.
always!
Simply sublime. Thank you Maestros.
You will stay alive for all of this. Love you Chick
This is the only school in Jazz That interacts hormonally with the melody This school will not die
perhaps you were searching for “harmoniously” instead of ‘hormonally”?
Ther is nothing better than real music! You guys are smashing....!
Hard time comprehending the awesome talent I just experienced, but I expected nothing less from this line up before I even started watching. I knew I was in for a master class of how to perform at the highest level and how to play with, against, for and to the other band members and the audience. Amazing in every respect.
Agree. Skilled, talented and complex. But not the kind of music I like to tune into. Idk why. I tried to get into jazz, but this just doesn’t move me.
A drummer so melodic and expressive he can make you cry
100 %
The Jimmy Cobb of modern drumming. Tasteful and total control of deep pocket creations.
In the shower of well-deserved praise for the band, don’t forget Steve Wilson. His subtle use of space and confident phrasing set a high bar for the solos that followed. Without drawing attention to himself, he helped the tight arrangement to breathe shifting the music into a higher gear. That’s the sign of a master.
Steve Wilson is indeed a master musician, and furthermore a marvelous human being. He's genuinely humble, and always there for the music 100 percent.
Intelligent comment. Well said
Rest In Peace Chick, what a phenomenal performance! Thank you for everything!
Legendary artists blowing out an incredible high quality composition. Chick……..RIP. Gadd, keeping on grooving! Talented young bucks jamming, learning and dishing………wow!
Whenever Chick comprises a host of stellar musicians of this caliber as jazz enthusiasts we can only expect one thing to happen great music will spring forward with stunning results.
💥 Absolute genius. Chick Corea has the rare gift of never run out of excellent ideas, and do exactly what he thinks, and NEVER do anything he doesn't want. These 2 characteristics I haven't seen on anybody else simultaneously. 🎉❤❤❤
God bless you, Chick! Such a legend of music and of joyous humanity xx RIP xx
Thank you "chick"
You were, are, will be forever the jazz/Latin/progressive rock "genius"
RIP mr. Corea
I went backstage to see Chick after a wonderful gig at Ronnie Scott's, London sometime, I guess, in the late 80s. He signed a magazine for me and gave me some very encouraging words when I told him I was studying jazz piano myself. A beautiful soul who will be dearly missed in this world so needful of music magic and inspiration...
Absolutely brilliant ! I played this song in the 90's in my conservatory final exam.
It will always be a big touch of magic to see and hear maestro Chick Corea play! Your spirit will live with us forever !
Chick Corea (p), Steve Gadd (d), Steve Wilson (sax + flute), Lionel Loueke (g), Carlitos Del Puerto (b) and Luisito Quintero (perc).
Thank you! I believe that , out of respect for the musicians involved, video description should ALWAYS include personel reference.
Amazing ❣️ Sono strepitosi😉😁💯💯💯💯♥️
Thank you.
@@davidsempau2973 I agree 100% - it’s so wrong, such a disconnect, When people put up videos with all of their links, copyright information… No mention of a single musician’s name in the video description
thanx Bro
Fantastic, everyone in that band is a master of his instrument!
Rest In Peace Chick you gave us great pleasure to listen to your great music
it sounds and flows so natural...it seems easy!
A life spent to reach this level of musical knowledge...and everything vanishes in an instant!
we'll miss you :(
I was there, and It was awesome!
Steve Gadd, ageless and smooth as silk. My God, the licks that have transpired because of this gifted musician. Like branches of a tree that grew over a wall. I for one thank you for inspiring me.
The gigants of jazz at work. What a piece of art!
His music will live on!
We miss you, Chick!
Thank you....I can always feel the love in your music!!
Gadd is 75 !!! OMG still nailing it. What a genius
I bought this when it first came out but this is the first time I see it. live. Absolutely wonderful!! Thanks for posting.
RIP Old Friend..
Just wonderful! thanks Chic and Steve! This band just grooves! RIP Chic……🙏
I am so depressed , didn't know he is dead . Today i heard his music . Yesterday i heard his music ... . It was an unbelieveable great time with all these musicians . They made my life .
Everything was excellent here. The music, musicianship and chemistry as well as the camera work which was in rhythm with the movement of the music. BRAVO!!!!!!
Ahhhhhh Maaan Chick and crew What a performance Such greatness in a time of need! Wow! I miss the live concerts! This will do 😎

That level of talent in full groove just made me tingle all over....and the solos!
Exceptionally refreshing and inspiring music, a real treat to watch Chick playing with such a talented musicians.
Beautiful music from a beautiful man...His positive attitude reflected both on his face and music...RIP.
Steve Gadd. Fortunate to see him perform with Simon & Garfunkel, Al Jarreau, Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea, Al di Meola and a few others in different settings. Didn't matter how many people in the audience, 50, 25000, it didn't matter. He's the greatest.
That my friends is THE lesson in listening and interacting. Fabulous.
Oh. That moment at 14:45 when Steve Gadd just stays his right hand to hit the perfect beat. That is the sign of a master who's in control
They really hear eachother!
Que maravilla!!!
This is such a treat. AWESOME!!!
😆😆🎶🎶😁😁😁❣️❣️
Grande Chic !!!! Il mio cuore è ancora distrutto dalla tua morte giorni fa.
LA TUA MUSICA VIVRÀ IN ETERNO. Grazie maestro. R.I.P.
Lionel is something else! Fantastic. Thanks Chick once again!
What a bunch of musical beasts!! Thanks for all the great music and good vibes you brought to this world, Chick & co 🙏🎶💚
Incredible
IMMENSI!! I più grandi di sempre Corea e SteveGadd,i love you forever!⭐🙏
While I expect to be blown away by Steve Gad and Chick Corea, I am absolutely inspired by Steve Wilson's solo choices. Hammmercy!
What a great band...love the interaction...Gadd plays superb musically...as always...we know him for that..thanks chick for posting this nice track
An immeasurable legacy. An immeasurable loss.
Great composition and grooving on next level. World class musicians and no need to say that.
This is really fabulous, great, fantastic, deeply inspiring, movingly joyful and humbling stuff. It's simply divine. I am completely blown away. I am so sad Chick is gone.
You never left us Chick. You're still with us all the way. ❤❤
Fantastic, what a great group of musicians!
Grande Chick !! Maestro de Maestros !!!
This is just outstanding craftsmanship and performance and an other worldly feel and interplay of sounds... blows my mind
One of my favorite tunes "Night Streets".
He was almost 80. I would've wanted to listen his performance of 80's.
So good! Chick and Steve getting younger with every measure ahead! Fantastic band!
Chick Corea siempre el mejor y siempre rodeado de los mejores. El más grande!!! Dios te bendiga. ❤🎶
Amazing group all around. I can't get over how Steve and Chick just seem to get better with age. I will say that what I like about Steve's playing in this performance is that he's playing with the percussionist and not over the percussionist. Too many drummers tend to do that.
