You never know you're gonna miss someone till they're gone. Chick was a legend in music. A changer of the game, and at the same time, a humble and very cool guy. We have his music to remember him though.
When I heard that he had died, I just couldn’t believe it. I was watching some of his videos and master classes on his channel. It is such a sad loss of a musical genius. RIP Chick, you will surely be missed.
I just recently started getting into Chick's music. Looking back over these lockdown videos, it's clear he was such a great teacher too. I hate that he's gone, but in his final statement, he encouraged us all to play music and make the world better through it. Let's do that in his honor. If anyone wants to show me their music, let me know!
It breaks my heart that Chic is gone Just a pure genus and a great person Got to hang with him and the Electric Band back stage once It was the most exciting feeling RIP Maestro
Tears all over my face... One of the greatest artists that ever existed is gone from this dimension, but thank Goodness there are countless videos, recordings, concerts, and material to dig for the lifetime. Chick will be always here. Forever...
I can say that I am at this stage in my jazz piano journey- where I am working out my own way of thinking of the basics of music; of the structure of the 12 notes i.e my primary colors, of music- and how they relate to one another to create and deliver "the pleasure of sound"
Aw man. RIP. Great artist, got to see him one time in radford, Virginia. He talked to people after the show and took pictures, seemed like a real nice guy.
Chick was such an amazing musician and person. Genius is a term used haphazardly to describe people that are great at what they do but Chick was truly a musical genius. Chick was able to impact people in a way that few could. I can't come close to understanding his thought processes. I'm just blown away by his output. Love you Chick, can't believe you're not with us now but look forward to seeing you on the other side. 😥❤
Long time ago I came across "Crystal Silence" (the original version with Joe Farrell , or at least I believe this was the original version). And instantly became a fan of Corea. And I bought a vinyl of Return to Forever - was it Romantic Warrior? - I still have it somewhere, must go and find it. And there were pieces of an interview with HIM printed on the cover or on the inset, and he said something along "as an artist and a musician I have an obligation to find a language to convey something from myself to the listeners". That was his approach. And this was back in early 70's when jazz started to divide and many good and not-so-good jazz musicians became embracing harmolodic and free. Jazz in part became noise and Chick held on to his position, while many artists (not only the musicians) seemed to follow the logic that the least people understand what you're doing, the better artist you are. Some sort of an elitarian trap. Chick could do a lot of things and he did them with many musicians, never departing too far from this philosophy that the music must be understandable and as an artist he is obliged to build a bridge - and not the wall. This he was doing on stage to fellow musicians, producing excellent duos and trios which I think he excelled at (with Hancock, with Burton, with McFerrin, with Weckl and Pattitucci, to give a few examples). This we had a pleasure and joy to witness and experience as listeners, being offered the bridge. When the pandemics started, I noted he started with the master class thing and I said to myself there could not be a better time, place and person to do this. . And we lost him. . :-(
I love the fact he called his friend beautiful....man that's dope...how many ppl actually refer to someone as beautiful and not mean in from the physical aspect...
I'm so happy that you had the presence of mind to videotape your thoughts about music and the world. God Bless you Chick!! Now God has two phenoms on the Heavenly Bandstand... George Duke, and You!!💕🙏🏿🔥
Wow! So devastated for this loss. What a humble genius and magnificent, iconic being. Thank you sir, for your passion and never ending walls of inspiration. I offer you a heavenly toast, 500 Miles High and beyond. 👏 👏👏 🎹 💕🎶🥂
Graceful man and he found the way out. He's in a better place I'm sure he ascended...I like the ad ice sir, I will continue to study those 12 notes thank-you. I think the message here is right. One needs to make their own sense of the chromatic scale.
Can't express the sadness of how much i miss Him. listening to him speak here , i think i can feel that he somehow knew that his days are counted for !? like he wants to just pass this Wisdom quickly. what a beautiful guy he was.
Was, just getting into all these Great videos from Chick .Then We all heard ..It is tough on Us. I, seen Return to Forever ,many yrs ago at Carnegie Hall .Was trying to conceptualize the Fusion . Complex for then.. Chick, sharing all these insights now ,are so needed. Thankyou /
I love his compositions and his playing and his encouragement in this short video. I believe I did see Chick Corea at the Both/And Club back in 1970 or 71 with the Miles Davis band touring shortly after “Bitches Brew” came out. I think Dave Holland and Jack Dejonette were in the band, also Dave Liebman and Airto!
There are amazing musicians, and amazing educators. Sometimes you find both in one person. Chick was not one of them. His tip about learning music: "Take all 12 notes of the Western Chromatic Scale and learn as much as you can about how you can use them". What a great tip. Now everyone can play like Chick as long as they follow this simple advice, right? Well, I bet Rodger Federer couldn't teach us how to hit a forehand if his life depended on it. THANKS FOR YOUR WONDERFUL MUSIC CHICK! May it live forever.
@@tomault3063 Well, how did Chick's video help you with improving your playing, really? Do you now now exactly, how, what, and how much of it to practice, or how to reach a specific goal? I saw many videos of Chick answering questions about how to learn this and that. Non of them helped me with finding ways to play better. Now, great educators can do just that. They may help you develop an effective practice routine, expertly explain in detail the theory of a particular topic, and so on. Chick was a genius who does things intuitively rather than with a conscious mind. (There is a reason why he dropped out of jazz school after a few months.) That's why he can only explain things with a very brought brush. Like in his quote: "To learn how to play jazz just take the 12 chromatic tones of the Western chromatic scale and discover as much as you can about them". Don't get me wrong. I am grateful for every note Chick recorded, and will listen to his music till the day I die. But a skilled educator he was not, and he never claimed to be.

so much easier if your synapsis and neural pathways are musical and inclined to see most of the possible and various ways without effort like the dear late and lamented Chick. Still makes me cry. In my opinion this is the biggest musical loss in a while. He just never stopped.
No, me neither...Rest in peace. Thanks for all your great music. I will sorely miss you - simply can't believe it...😭😭😭

Untrue. You know who you're gonna miss, for the most part. There are some you don't, but most you do. So to say you never know just isn't true.
