Recently played through Dust for the first time. My god, the atmosphere is nightmarish and your prospects of surviving are abysmal. I followed the vanilla steps for Viva New Vegas and then slapped Dust, Dust Tweaks, Dusted Dust, the Dust Expansion Project and Dust Additional Fixes on the end to keep it relatively stable.
Perfect picks. Dust is fun because it's super hard and super unique. VNV is just the best way to play New Vegas. Even when going for a vanilla playthrough, VNV is an essential base layer that makes the game objectively better. Whenever I want to install new mods into New Vegas I always build off of a VNV base install.
talking about top mods is so difficult because there is so many different categories but i completely agree on your picks. one of my favorite mods even though its just small is titans of the new west it makes power armor more like the classics where its big and bulky and it just makes you feel way more like a total beast while wearing it
@oscarspokes9045 Thanks! :) I also enjoyed that mod quite a bit, especially because I like power armor so much more than the variants of desert ranger/LAPD riot armor. I like it even more than Fallout 4's power armor mechanic, because multiple pieces of classic and Fallout 3 lore explicitly say power armor effectively lasts forever in terms of energy supply (not needing fusion cores on a regular basis). So between the size buff and no need for constant fuel, I believe Titans brings the best of both worlds and makes an end-game item truly feel like one.
i’ve played new vegas repeatedly across about 12 years since I was a really little kid and it’s been vanilla and console every single time and i still love it. i can only imagine how the modding scene would affect that
@@theonethingwealladore I don't think it would be negative. Modding has a lot to offer both hardcore and first-time players, and the flow of new mods is pretty consistent, so there's always more to try out. I would argue however that playing vanilla makes you a bigger fan and a more true fan of the game than someone who needs mods (outside optimization mods) to play. One of the leading Fallout youtubers made comically wrong assertions about FNV lore because of a texture pack he had installed that incorrectly retextured certain office folders to be labeled with BoS iconography (instead of blank in vanilla). I think that incident alone is reason enough for any truly curious gamer to play a hefty amount of vanilla before modding, especially textures. Fallout New Vegas is a masterpiece akin to a beautiful sports car from the late 60s; you can put a bodykit on it if that's what you want, but it really doesn't need to be improved. Just my opinion though
@ that oxhorn mistake was so funny, i still think about that to this day. not a big fan of the guy. anyway, i would love to try modding one day. i feel like ive been loyal enough to vanilla to see how the modding world opens the game up even more.
@theonethingwealladore Don't get wrong, I'm not trying to gatekeep modding or anything. I highly recommend trying it, it's a whole new world. I want to try making mods some day, but I don't even know where to start lol
@@JustAnotherTalkingHead oh yeah i get you’re not trying to gatekeep, but i think it probably *should* be “gatekept” at least a little bit. i think everyone should fully appreciate vanilla before they get to all the modding stuff apart from patches and whatnot. mod making seems awesome because you can change whatever you want to change or add what you wanna add, but i wouldn’t ever know where to start either.
@@tannerbennett5602 Thanks buddy! It's a great time, I'm interested to hear what you think of it if you do try it. Don't be afraid to savescum or start over a few times, it's far from a 'fair' experience, but beating it feels like taking on the whole world and winning

The mods always seem interesting, but I've only ever played fallout on consoles. These days more than ever I associate PC's with work and don't want to touch them in my spare time. Maybe one day I'll take a look at new vegas on PC and it's mods.
@@jackapope8118 I totally get that. I started gaming on console, and even on PC I like to keep things as vanilla as possible. Some would say you're missing out and there's some truth to that, but I personally would rather console vanilla over a modded-beyond-recognition playthrough. Mods lose their luster fast after the novelty wears off, and I wouldn't suggest investing in a PC solely for the modding experience. It could also be the source of years of fun, but the experience I keep coming back for is FNV, not any particular mod. You can't go wrong either way imo :)

@@cyrus5845 Hey bro! I absolutely do take suggestions. I previously did do a quick rundown on fermenting and distilling in a previous video, but I could do a more detailed one in a future video in which I do the full process, or at least explain in detail while distilling in real time.
