  • Hey all and since I made my video looking at who I think will win the Cup, I have seen that I both overrated and underrated the Canucks chances, so I wanted to discuss this in a video.

      Such a weird take. Zadorov did not change while with Vancouver. He had those abilities in spurts with Calgary too. If anything Vancouver has a weak defence minus their top 2.

    been watching & playing hockey for over 45 years .... this is one of the strongest core groups Nucks have ever had, and probably the best Coach/Management duo's they've ever assembled as well.
    yes, they are lacking depth on D, and Demko plagued with some mystery knee injury really sucks.....but with a bit of luck on the injury front, and the acquisition or development of one more really good Dman...I can definitely see this team surprising a lot of people this year...perhaps even a cup final appearance.

    As an Oilers fan the Canucks are 100% the real deal. Realistically they were 1 game away from potentially being the position the Oilers were in last season. If Demko can be healthy at the right times, there's no reason to think they can't go on a deep playoff run this year.

    The biggest question that will determine that answer is Demko. If he's healthy, maybe. But if it's Silovs and Lankinen for much of the season, they're a wildcard. They should be competitive with Tocchet's systems, but that's all I can really count on. They haven't made significant improvements on the back end and that's really what was the biggest cause of their struggles pre-Rick. Obviously, he came in and was influential in last season's success, but he also had a much better overall team than Bruce Boudreau had.

    • @the5thlineplaymaker131
      @the5thlineplaymaker131 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Team defence was the problem before Rick, not just the D pairings. We were shallow up front and on the back end.
      Since then we’ve added Hronek, Soucy, and we have a whole new bottom pairing.
      One of which, Deshernais, played in double digit games for Edmonton in the playoffs. And he made Nurse look way better when they paired them up, moving ceci down.
      We’ve also added defensively responsible forwards
      Our problem last year was 5 on 5 production, and rush chances.

      Everyone is overrating them a bit, somewhere between a good to very good team, but not great. I don't know if there are any great teams in the NHL currently. Dal, NYr, Color (if Nichushk returns), & maybe Tor seem like the best four teams to me - yet none of them are great (just very good/excellent)
      Van had 5 guys who all had career yrs all at once - Q Hugh, Boesr, JTM, Demk, & Hronk.
      With that said, Van should finish 2nd or 3rd at worst in the Pacific & make playoffs. I bet Edm finish 1st in the PAC.

    I think its funny watching the spin this year after last year. Last year canucks fans were very cautiously optimistic, thinking about maybe making the playoffs, while the rest of the hockey world thought they were awful. This year, canucks fans are very cautiously optimistic, fairly confident in making the playoffs, while the rest of the hockey world appears to be picking between them, Dallas, Edmonton, and Colorado to come out of the west.

    I think the Canucks have a good team. I was one of the few who thought they had a good team going into last year and even think I made a comment saying so on one of last year's preview videos. I don't think, right now, they are a cup contender. I think they can develop into a cup contender, even during this season. Some teams do get better during the season. It all depends on goaltending, and that means if Demok's healthy or one of his replacements up their game. They have the three keys to a championship team: an ace center (Pettersson) an ace d-man (Hughes) and a first rate goalie (Demko). For all the hype over Toronto the last ten years they've never had those three things at any time. Now the Nucks have to fill in around those 3.

    • @mcthunderstick2374
      @mcthunderstick2374 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Idk if I agree with this. Skinner isn’t an elite goalie, and Bouchard is definitely not an ace defenceman and they were one game from the cup.
      Colorado two years ago had the centre and defenceman but their goalie was Kuemper, who I don’t think is elite either.
      Vegas doesn’t really have an ace defenceman, and certainly didn’t during their cup run. Hill showed up big for them but he’s not really elite either, at least hasn’t been since their cup win.

    • @wilconran13
      @wilconran13 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@mcthunderstick2374 You have a point. Then again, you need all three to at least not be a liability, which none of those were. Kuemper and Skinner both had solid above-900 save percentages and in 2022, Colorado scored 4.25 goals per game, which is just insane and can cover for a goalie. Then, for both teams, you have a great first-D pairing that plays well together and covers each other's weaknesses in Bouchard + Ekholm and Theodore + Pietrangelo, respectively. In both cases, you got your shutdown guy and an elite passer, even if you want to argue none of those four is an 'ace.' Same in Florida with Ekholm and Forsling.

    Canucks are absolutely a mirage. There's no question in my mind. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they missed the playoffs, and if they make it, it'll be solely because there are free spaces in the West behind Oilers, Dallas, Avs and Preds, the only actually good teams in the conference, not because they have any business being in the playoffs.
    It's so obvious too if you look beyond their results in the playoffs, at how they ACTUALLY played in the two rounds they participated in. Their win over Preds was pure fluke, and the only reason the series against Oilers went past 4 games was because of the absurd amount of goals Canucks got off of lucky bounces, accidental deflections, equipment malfunctions and so on. They got lucky last season, but that kind of luck rarely happens twice in a row.

    It would seem that I am in the minority on Tyler Myers... For 5 years and the first couple months of last season he was a train wreck on the blue line, I wanted him gone so badly I would have given him away in a trade. But that changed last season as he became what I was used to seeing from Dan Hamhuis - 20+ minutes a night and very few noticeable errors. Meanwhile, he still has the size and skating. It would seem that this coaching group gave him the structure he needs to play in to go from a chaos giraffe into a solid shut down dman. I have also liked seeing some of his nasty side come out even in the preseason already. I was not nearly as impressed with Zadorov last season as I was with the transformation I saw in Myers. And considering we signed both Myers and Desharnais for what Boston gave Zadorov... I am quite good with that.
    That said, while I want to see how the new guys really fit in the regular line up - and having the depth players pushing up from below - I am currently asking the question "who is the contract this team would need to move/replace to get better?" Last year, that was Beauvillier to start the season, Kuzmenko (as much as I really like the player and think he will be very good in the NHL, he was not the right fit in Vancouver), and Mikheyev. I was very upset losing Podkolzin... when that kid puts his game together he is going to be very good. But who is that player/contract now?
    The thing that has impressed me so much with this management group is their ability to bring in players where I find myself asking -"who is this?" and seeing them become players who excel in the position they find themselves. Beauvillier being the one player I was not really impressed with, but at the same time, he was the money that made the Horvat trade work and we also got Hronek and Raty - and eventually Zadorov in that series of deals. I'm very interested to see what this team can do. I have them contending for the Cup next season, but how this team is going... they could take the game to another level this year and it would not surprise me.

    Pretenders 6-8th seed if they make it in this year.
    Canucks feasted on Sharks, Ducks, Kraken, Flames which all finished in bottom 10 of league last season.
    Also got easy points against Edmonton at start of season when Oilers were a mess.
    The Pacific was brutal last year with Vegas limping all year and even LA with DuBois trade setting them back.
    Hughes was great, Tocchet as well, but Canucks did not get better in offseason, Lindholm was one of their best playoff performers and was starting to get going, Zadorov was a beast, the D got big, but puck moving will be an issue.
    Pettey is the most overrated diva, Miller is their best C by far.
    Hughes / Hronek can not be a 5v5 top pairing, both are offense first, Hughes needs an Eckholm or Tanev type taking care of their net front, taking the hits and making a first pass out of zone.
    The pacific bottom teams like Sharks, Ducks and Kraken other than Flames are getting more competitive, teams in Central like Utah, Chicago, St. Louis all got better .
    There is no way that Edmonton starts like last year.
    The Canucks are in for a rude awakening, 4 top 6 players if DeBrusk can show consistency, 2 top 4 D, the rest of D are all bottom pair or scratches on any true contending team, their strength is the bottom 6 forward group and goaltending if Demko is healthy
    Much like Markstrom in his time in Van, Demko covers up and makes the team look better than it is.
    Silovs looked great against Nashville, big by the time the second round Oilers scouts were already getting their scouts to find holes, so will other teams this season.
    I see Canucks as a wildcard team
    Edmonton, Vegas, LA all strong, Kraken should push for playoffs.
    Alvin and Jim are reinventing team building by trading futures for rentals, building through free agency.
    This team is 2 years away from being 5 years away.
    Retooling a team that wasn’t close is only retarding the inevitable rebuild.
    Feel sorry for Hughes, he hasn’t had the right partner since Schenn, who wasn’t even top pair material but at least sacrificed his body to get Hughes the puck.
    If I’m the opposition I’m dumping it over Quinn’s head and running him over like Nashville and Oilers did.

    Hughes and Hronek...decent pairing???!!!! That's the understatement of the year. They are a phenomenal pairing, Hughes won the norris, statistically they were in the top 5 in the NHL in several categories. The way you downplay the Canucks is hilarious. Watch tthe canucks clean house this year including your beloved Stars

    Team got stronger. They actually have 3 scoring lines. Joshua being hurt sucks. Demko hurt isnt as big of a deal. Hughes, Miller, Petty, Boeser, Hronek is an insane top 5 group. Now they have added Debrusk, and Sprong. Think people are gonna be really suprised by Sprong natural goal scorer. Canucks have one of the best d pairing in the league now with Hughes and Hronek. Miller and petty are as good as any other stars in the league. This team is miles ahead of last year. We have easily 8 forwards that could be a top 6 anywhere else in the league. Miller, Petty, Boeser, Debrusk, Hogs, Garland, Joshua, Sprong. Hughes could grab another gear and so could Petty.

    Worth noting that they haven't made the playoffs two years in a row since 2012-13. I think they may have overperformed last year in part due to the new coach bump they got from Tocchet. That being said, I still expect them to make the playoffs in a still somewhat weak Pacific Division, probably as the 3rd seed behind EDM and VGK.

    Agree with Allvin at GM and Rutherford as President, there's optimism the Canucks can perform, and even get better through the year with various moves. They already proved both last year.
    Demko being injured to begin the year just might prove a blessing in disguise. Team has to learn to not rely on their goalie bailing them out, PLUS Demko gets more breathing space and rest to be at his best come playoff time.

    Playoffs for me. If they can make it to the Western Conference Final that would be a step in the right direction and with some puck luck and injury luck they could sneak into the Stanley Cup Final.

    Canucks prospect pool has improved but is still ranked in the bottom third of the league. They got a bunch of hard to play against players without any crazy contracts. DeBrusk is a huge improvement for the Pettersson line, where Petey had to do it all with less than stellar linemates last season. The forest of tree trunks on the blueline are going to be pretty intimidating for teams that decide to start pushing anyone around, like we saw last night in the game against Seattle.

    you don't 'spread the energy around' on a very successful, in-sync line. All the famous lines in history were kept together (thus the naming of the line) because they were better together than apart. It's like trading Gretzky for 8 average players. You don't dilute - you build

    I think the story of this year is going to be the emergence of DeBrusk as a major star, eclipsing Petey, and Canucks fans are going to be very pleasantly surprised by this development, while also not liking it much that this guy they didn't think too much about before the season is making Petey and his contract look bad. You know, a typical Vancouver fan situation: happy but sad at the same time.

      Not a fucking chance man.brusky is a lovely complimentary piece. Petey is a franchise player in the same category as Hughes. He has a legit shot at eclipsing henrik Sedins all time points record by the end of his career. If u dont believe me go look at his and henriks numbers by age
