NHL 07 09 14 16 were the only nhl based console games that I liked. After nhl 16, it all just ended up boring. Even to this day I still play nhl 16. McD is already 36 years old in my gm mode. And that mode is the most one I ever play. One major thing I don’t like is that they never improve year after year now and it’s all same just rosters updated.
6:57 that building is called The Union League of Philadelphia. Its a really historic building that I have done some A/V work in. Its near City Hall on Broad St. S
Actually was an amazing game they fixed a lot of tweaks on the 360 at the time everything in franchise was better too but the Xbox 1 was terrible came out half ready
biggest downgrade from 15 to 25 is the presentation. 15 we had nbc presenation, now the game looks like fortnite with a commentator that isnt even a hockey commentator.
Dude, at 12 years old, I remember being so hyped for NHL 07 looking amazing, but didnt know it was only on Xbox 360 so I got it on PS2, me and my friends were so upset. Then we did our research to find out its only on next gen, which none of us had.
It wasn't actually that good. You would only download it after you saw the ad in NHL 15 when you are bored. Like it's just kinda a gimmick to mess around in.
NBC broadcast is so much more legit, I wish we could have that back. Just the intro when you play a game makes it so much more real especially with the real cities.
It’s the game that represents the beginning of the end. No online GM mode, be a pro instead of live the life, I remember at launch GM mode didn’t have a draft. It was the start of EA not caring about single player offline game modes.
Personally for me NHL 15 on Xbox 360 is fantastic. It's literally an updated version of NHL 14 with the new schedule and roster updates and I prefer it over 14. Definitely play it once a day. NHL 15 on Xbox One though is a different story, it's not bad as it was but back then it was awful. I'm old enough to remember how many copies of the game were returned to Gamestop. I got NHL 15 for Xbox One on Boxing Day 2014 and thought "This is the future?" It was really bare-bones and very dry, it was stunning to see such a bad game. It was really bad. I go back on Xbox One once in a while and it's pretty underwhelming. And, Custom Soundtracks. Can't do that on Xbox One which really made a ton of people mad. If you have the 360 version, stick with that one
NHL 15 was the first NHL game I played, and honestly the first sports game I ever played when I was about 12 years old or so or so. 16 was already out but it was cheaper for my parents to get NHL 15. I'm nostalgia blinded by it probably, but yeah NHL 17, and NHL 18 which is the last game I have owned, I never bothered getting any other ones after that which might be for the better considering it seems like it was all down hill after 18 from what I've heard from others.
You missed out on the classics though. NHL 04 was so good. I really enjoyed 08 too when they first went to the skill stick , along with 14 being the best one in the modern skill stick era
I bought this game for the PS3, and that version looked the same as NHL14. The only difference was that when you played a game, you had the NBC scoreboard and the voice of ”Doc” Emrick on commentary. And that was the only reason I bought NHL15, because I loved watching hockey when "Doc" Emrick was on commentary. He always got me hyped up. So in my opinion, that game wasn’t that bad. For me it was as good as NHL14, but seeing the game played on the ”new” generation of consoles in this video, I can understand why many people say that this was a bad game...
I still remember the first time I spent an entire season getting ready to move my team (Moving the Hurricanes to Milwaukee). I was getting ready all season to move the team, and finally got to design the jerseys...only to discover how handicapped it was. The jersey design was incredibly rough, and at a time when everyone else was already letting you do custom jerseys and stuff with actual designing and logo importing (The NBA 2K series allowed you to import your own custom designs and had vastly better jersey design) I was stuck with the most generic looking jerseys and I couldn't even design the gloves, I just had to pick some basic color locations and hope some gloves didn't look awful. I wanted to say the worst part was that I couldn't go back and edit it after the changes were set, but the real worst part for me was finding out just how terrible the included list of names was. I'll preface this by saying, I didn't hate the NHL series for including fun stuff in the game. I like that they add fun things for people who don't take hockey as seriously as others, but the frustration I started to develop after a few years was what eventually got me to just stop playing altogether. I like to play a more serious game, and EA clearly just shifted towards only the goofy fun stuff, and the HUT being their cash cow. The HUT was ultimately the biggest gripe, but the fun and goofy animations, goals and everything else was a big part of making HUT appealing. Anyway, I was wanting to go with something like the Milwaukee Fox or some other generic name, while avoiding re-using one of the usual AHL/NHL names that were already in use, because what fun is just re-branding an existing team? I went looking for just generic names and was so disappointed to find out just how little there was available outside of the existing team names at the time, while there being a lot of team names that are probably too cheesy for a beer league team to want. There was the "Deke and Destroy" (not even plural...) and the "Fear the Beards" available, but a simple animal name or something generic enough that it would make for a decent name wasn't there. That on top of the logos just bummed me out after spending an entire season getting ready to finally move my team. But the real cup check was when I finally did move them. I was looking forward to starting a new Central Division rivalry with the Blackhawks and my Blues...only to find out I couldn't do that at all. I basically just got to re-skin my team and then have them play the exact same teams with some jerseys that all looked ugly and were infinitely worse than if I had just kept the Hurricanes jerseys. That was the beginning of the end for my time with NHL17 and the NHL series as a whole. I'd realized that EA wasn't really making a game targeting someone like me, who just wanted to have a more serious sim type gameplay setup and season with my NHL teams where I had realistic trades and stats, along with gameplay. I spent years chasing sliders and trying to get the game to be more what I wanted, while EA continued to move in a different direction, and finally I just had to accept that my favorite sport wasn't going to be my favorite game anymore.
One of the biggest differences that I remember between 14 and 15 was the player controlled goaltender mechanics. Prior to 15 I played mostly goaltender in online team play and the mechanics then felt smooth and from my experience was a blast to play. NHL 15 came along and the mechanics had changed and it felt very clunky. I did not at all like the way the goalie would move in the crease, felt slow and weird. Unplayable to how it was in 14. NHL 14 era truly was something else. I miss the messages I’d get from teammates after standing on my head as the goaltender. My favorite memory is when I channeled Hasek and just could not be beat and carried the entire team and then the next game I became Toskala, just how it goes sometimes 😆
Fun Fact: Yes the famous “great responsibility” line is from the comics. However and even Funner fact is that it’s not originally said from Uncle Ben. It’s actually Stan Lee who said it in a narrator bubble! The original line is “With great power there must also come great responsibility”
My main gripe about them not even hinting to add back gm connected was that they tried saying X% of leagues weren’t completed. Meanwhile my brain goes “no shit” especially compared to what a 12 game nfl season or whatever they even play. When it was available we had ten different people playing in the same connected season. Got through a season and a half before we had to drop it in nhl 14. Also hated how that was the end of the easy options to earn pucks for hut. There used to be a ton of mini games and stuff to do to earn those pucks to buy the packs. Made more replay ability. Now it’s hey pay this or you won’t get shit in that free pack. 15 was the beginning of the end of good games from ea
NHL 15 was a next gen release the didn't include more than half the modes and features of the previous generation. That was the biggest problem. How you gonna release a game and cut most of the game modes? It took years to get some back and even a full decade later we still don't have all of the modes that were in 14. Crazy.
for me, kind of nostalgic for the 2015-2017 games. Clearly it was for sure broken, but the memories of playing online drop in hockey with random people across the globe. Still think modern NHL games are broken to the point where it's borderline unplayable. Just something about 15 was that for sure it was broken, but was fun and wacky when it did. Edit: It's obviously not one of the greats like 94, 14, or the 360/ps3 era. But still have memories of playing it!
A big thing I didn’t love was the goalie control and general animation change. Playing goalie up until 14 was insanely fun then they made them move 2 feet over with the slightest touch of the thumbstick. I hated it.
The thing that got me the most was that they didn't even allow you to customize player stats, like those are developers' tools, why wouldn't that be available in-game like in so many games before? I didn't even get an Xbox One until the X in 2019 but that was one of the reasons why I did not rush to upgrade
The Sharks finally got a winter classic and they took that game mode out when they finally got it, won’t forget it and how I think we had to buy those jerseys to have in game 😂
I have, and regularly play, NHL 15 (mainly because I'm stuck in the past with Xbox 360, and 15 was the last Chel game released for that console). Certainly not that bad. Hell, compared to today's NHL games it's a gem. Plus, the Doc-Eddie-Ray announcer trio was top-tier.

No, it's literally taking out game modes like GM connected
This game started the decline in the series imo
Lack of features ruined this game, and for the things that were carried over, was not great
