      I dunno man I’m a Canucks fan too and I think this is some insane talk.
      I love the team we’ve built and the coaching staff. But you had career years from Hughes, Miller, Brock, Hronek. You expecting them to all just repeat that? Or do better? There HAS to be regression there. I honestly think it’s easy to see a world where Brock only scores 25. I love the Debrusk signing but you’re not pegging him for like 40 goals. I would expect Petey to bounce back some but again, you can’t have like 5 guys on career years and expect more from them all.
      I think we’re a playoff team for sure. Presidents trophy? I think that’s absolute madness.
      99.5 being the o/u on points, I think is spot on. These guys all agreed to HAMMER the over. I’m thinking we’re like a 96-100 point team.

    • @CorrionReap

      @BA-li5ur quinn Hughes is still young so I expect him to only keep building. Miller is buying into the system, boeser is feeling better and his wrist seems to be holding up well. I get being pessimistic but come on.

    I think Steve's assessment of the defensive depth is totally fair. Soucy and Myers staying healthy is pretty important for the team to maintain a solid rotation. I like their forward depth and the mix of players though.

    • @methany8788
      @methany8788 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, the defense is a little iffy. It's not just depth at the lower end, I'm particularly worried about the second pairing. Meyers and friends are pretty good in a third line role, but we've seen before where upping his minutes leads, and he isn't getting any younger (though the coaching change seemed to revive him a little).
      Ideally, Hughes and Hronek can stay together, so who moves the puck up the ice on the second line? Who is consistent enough to eat all those minutes? I hope to be proven wrong, but that's the biggest question mark imo. Even before the goaltending issues (after signing an extra guy) and whether Pettersson will bounce back.

    • @leoguilhem4583
      @leoguilhem4583 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We're not supposed to be taking these training camps as anything other than training camp lines... But they have Soucy-Desharnais lined up together, making sure that there's a stay at home dman and a puck mover on each line in the bottom 4. That is very strong.

    Canucks have the best player development program in the league. Zadorov was a depth defenceman and in 5 months Foote and Gonchar turned him into a top 4 D. Tocchet, Foote, Gonchar, the Sedin twins, Komisarek, Samuelson, Maholtra, they change players.

      Zadorov just had more opportunity with the Canucks than he did on a deeper blueline in Calgary (before they traded everyone). If the Bruins give him the opportunity, he'll be a wrecking ball in his new division. Outside of goaltending, the Canucks had a terrible player development program until last season, where the only prospects developing well were in the US College system or Sweden.

    Kevin Lankinen signing is in the chat. 😂 You don't have to hide your 3rd goalies from waivers anymore. The defensive corps are monsters that will not make you want to play rough with Vancouver. DeBrusk will finally give Pettersson an elite player on his line. The Canucks attention to detail in depth signings was huge. Sprong is a guy who chips in on the 4th line against other 4th liners, who is going to have to work hard to keep out of Tocchet's doghouse, which is a storyline to watch. I definitely like Sherwood playing for the Canucks a lot more than against him.

      There’s no doubt that last season was the first to feature a Canucks’ post-2020 playoff appearance but also that among Canadian NHL teams, following last postseason, the Canucks haven’t been the only such team to have signed one or more goalies who weren’t as of last season under contract to such teams, with the:
      - Flames having signed Devin Cooley to a 2-season US$1.55 million contract
      - Oilers having chosen to not give a qualifying offer to Ryan Fanti, but to instead sign Collin Delia (who during the respective most-and second-most-recent seasons had played under contract to the Jets [any regular-season game he had played having been with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL] and Canucks)
      - Jets having let Delia and Laurent Brossoit walk into free agency, having chosen to sign Eric Comrie and Kaapo Kähkönen to respective two- and one-season contracts

    Mercer was pretty brutal last year because they kept forcing him to play center and any Devils fan will tell you he's really not a center. Injuries also destroyed the team so I'm pretty sure he had Chris Tierney and *insert AHL call up* on his wings for most of the season.

    Canucks don't care if they win the division, conference or whatever. Last season taught them that the regular season means nothing. Same with home ice. Job 1 will be to make the playoffs, which they will but won't be a shoe in. The entire right side on D needs work, plus goaltending question marks even with the Lankinen signing.
    Job 2 will be to start the playoffs healthy and rested. They know the team peaked early last year. One thing no one is mentioning is special teams. The PK will improve, but they have to find a way to improve the PP. It's good, but with the talent they have, it should be elite.

    The goaltending like everyone else said is an issue. Without Demko their season is already behind the 8 ball. I also think some luck played a role into their strong start which I see regressing a bit. They were one of the highest PDO teams in the league.
    With that said, I still think this team is very good, and should be a top 3 team in the division (given the transition and overall weakness of the division). I just dont see how their Stanley Cup Contenders with their question marks in net, right side of defense and their luck due to regress a smidgen. I could see them make it back to round 2

Signing Lankinen may be their savior but they will regress from the unsustainable scoring they had last year. Their improvements just aren't enough to counter it.
    They also are nowhere close to Edm who's D ranks 4th, offense ranks 1st, goaltending is 10th (4th under knoblauch) 1st for specially teams. They have a 3rd RD issue and depth issue yet still rank this high is crazy. I'm curious about what you could possibly be going off of. Not production. Not defensive play. Not much anything else, especially the example of Hronek over Ekholm. Ekholm was 7th in D 5v5 scoring, 2nd in xG% and xG± (only to Bouchard), and 5th in GF% (ahead of Bouchard, Hronek AND Hughes). Few dman last year was better all around than Ekholm.
