    Ingredients for this good in-laws Ogbono & Okra Soup
    • ¼ cup ground ogbono
    • About 20 okra
    • 1kg (2.2lbs) beef
    • 3 big pieces of cow skin
    • 1 smoked mackerel
    • 2 cooking spoons red palm oil
    • 300g spinach
    • Scotch bonnet or habaero pepper (to taste)
    • Sweet pepper (enough to colour)
    • 2 big seasoning cubes
    • 1 piece ogiri okpei
    • ¼ cup crayfish (optional)
    • Onions (optional)

    This is a very correct and special ogbono soup. I have just finished cooking ogbono soup but i guess i have to cook another one with okro. I have liked so ogbono can draw..so yum

    Shocking!I grew up knowing you were not supposed to cover okro soup when cooking cos it won't draw if u do,guess that's a myth,nice one Flo!!

      To be honest, it's on the internet that I heard that myth for the first time. I grew up knowing that if Ogbono does not bubble well it will not draw. So in spite of the fact that it boils over easily, we covered it but kept a close eye on it so it does not boil over.

      I think its because the main draw comes from the ogbono not the okra. If there was no ogbono I wonder. Great vid.

    This soup looks yummy, it will go down well with some akpu. Flo have you ever tried adding uziza seeds to your okro soup? I just started doing that and I love the taste.

      That method of adding crayfish is new to me, I'll give it a try.

    Ma'am Flo, you've been my cooking mom for quite a few years now. Stumbled upon your page on the explorer and always have it bookmarked on any phone I use.     In Ghana, we call the fermented locust bean, Dawadawa. It makes a wonderful dish if only you can brave it's smell in cooking 😄

      We have 4/5 types of locust beans in Nigeria. The two types from SouthWest is different from the two types they use in SouthEast/South south. The taste and smell is not the same. And you can't use one type for all dishes. For this Ogono soup, this is the best locust beans to use.

      @@anneogunnuga6148 your observation is correct because anything you don't see in my videos, it means that thing did not happen.
      I don't add salt when cooking meat. If you watch a few of my videos you will notice it's my default cooking style. We don't eat a lot of salt so usually the salt in the seasoning cubes (the no. 1 ingredient in seasoning cubes is salt) and the salt in say stockfish (when present in the meal) is enough for me and my family. For other people, they may need to add additional salt. No right or wrong there. Just a matter of tastebuds and health needs.
